  1. Perez seems to have made changes that look like actual improvement, not smoke and mirrors. A sub-3.50 ERA is not an unreasonable forecast. I'm not sure what Odorizzi changed, but he seems like a better regression candidate. Polanco is likely to regress some, just because he's playing at an MVP level right now and I don't think he's quite that good. (He's young enough and has had flashes in that past that indicate there is at least a possibility he is actually that good.) Buxton is about halfway between what he has been and what I hoped he would be eventually. I'll call it a good compromise and hope he stays healthy. Kepler is marginally better at an age where marginal improvements are the norm. I never trusted Hidenberger's stuff. The bullpen and pitching health are my two biggest concerns.
  2. If they keep playing like they have been, that should fix itself by mid-September at the latest.
  3. If he reminded me of my kids reading Amelia Bedelia, he would be my favorite announcer. Whatever he was saying about Rogers as he threw the pitch that became the tying base hit was accidentally hilarious - something about how he always rises to the occasion (or similar.) Now that Hawk Harrelson is retired, the worst announcer in baseball crown is up for grabs. Latroy is in the mix.
  4. I thought the laying off pitches down and away was the biggest and most encouraging change. (Cue the tastes great/less filling argument.)
  5. I think I have a new one. I like it when old guys keep on playing because they like to play.
  6. I hate to say it, but it might still be. Does anyone else's jersey outsell #7 in the gift shop yet? Does the average fan know he's retired, or do they wonder why he's not catching tonight?
  7. I'd be happy if he just hit like Brian Harper.
  8. One thing I like about this site is I get to discuss baseball and the Twins with a bunch of people who know a heck of a lot more than me about both, which doesn't happen too often in social events here in Oklahoma.
  9. We had someone around here who was or is an official scorer at some professional level - was that you?
  10. He had 25 PA, 20 AB, and 0 hits that year. That absolutely should have earned him a mention.
  11. I don't remember Gary Rath. Gary Richrath I remember (he could play some guitar when they let him) (and when he was sober), but not Gary Rath.
  12. We need someone to give his glove the special Gene Mauch/Willie Norwood hot glove treatment.
  13. The first thing that came to mind: "I thought his contract was up this year." The I realized this year is 2019. Getting old. The good new is I think it has been at least a year since I wrote a date and started the year with 19__.
  14. I'm not quite ready. I don't hate it, but we had a similar player in Austin who is 27 instead of 29 and is being paid at the dime a dozen rate, rather than costing us a quarter.
  15. Catching 4 of Berrios' 5 starts probably accounts for most of the difference in catcher ERA. Missing the 2018 team (with bad versions of Dozier, Buxton, and Sano) probably helped the W-L record Numbers lie all the time. As the saying goes, there are three kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies, and statistics. I'm not saying the Twins should dump Castro. The money is already spent, he's a good defensive catcher, and he may still work off the effects of injury and inaction to once again become an adequate hitter (although good is probably too much to hope for at his age.) I'm not ready to put all my chips on the Tortuga phenomenon or on Garver's concussion recovery (and marginal defense), but I would like to ride their current performance a bit more heavily for now.
  16. I assume he applied the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" principle. (We normally ignore that around here.)
  17. Mesa don't wanna Jar Jar Binks trilogy. Yousa should bita yousa tongue, okeeday?
  18. I hope you're not offended that seven people (and counting) liked the announcement that you are dead.
  19. Timely warning about his performance. He gave back that "looks good up front" pretty quickly. Obviously, the return is a process, and hopefully that was just a bump in the road, not the start of a trend.
  20. About that bullpen... (Spoil away - save me ten bucks) P.S. - We all know how Star Wars ends - they eventually make a movie so bad that is kills the franchise. They have come close a few times. The jury is still out on Solo.
