I haven't lived there for a long time so I don't know if what I knew then still applies ... someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Manny's was always a very good steak house. Then there's Murray's ... not really sure about how good they were/are, but it's kind of an 'old fashioned' steak house; one of those kind of iconic 'landmark' restaurants that every city has. Both of these I think are still in downtown Minneapolis? Yes?

It's easy for conspiracy theories to abound ... even I understand that ... the timing of it, the 'rural-ness' of the location, the lack of medical professionals available (because of the 'rural-ness' of the location); however ... and this is a big however ... he was NOT in good health, and that was emphasized quite a bit since his death as even I didn't truly realize how much other than he was terribly overweight, and he was 79 yrs old; on top of that, there was absolutely nothing amiss at the scene. If the family were at all surprised they could have ordered the autopsy, but they were obviously satisfied.

All politicians pander ... but this is what's the worst part about the Republican Party right now is the pandering to the religious right.

Mandatory classes on use and safety should be a must, not just for owner but for anyone who will be licensed to use it. Not only should each and every gun be registered, but the owner, and anyone in the household, should have a use and safety license for the same. I'm not sure how one could go about proving the need to own one for protection as that seems rather subjective. But I think gun owners should/could provide proof of how their guns are being safely stored, and that perhaps a standard needs to be set for individual home accessibility. I also think there need to be very strict laws in place for illegally owning or selling, especially if that gun was used criminally. And if someone uses your guns, because of lax accessibility, I think owners need to be held accountable to the maximum. These are just ideas off the top of my head that do not prevent anyone from owning a gun, not one iota. But increase the liability on the owner and the seller for every act that gun commits, no matter whose hands are on it, might make people think a bit more. Oh, and insurance ... do gun owners need liability insurance, or insurance of any kind? Maybe that, too, should be in there somewhere. If you equate that to owning a car, you need to be licensed to drive one; you need to be insured; and you are held accountable ... mostly ... I don't think in this country drunk drivers are held accountable strictly enough.

I think the confusing numbers may be that it has never taken the senate longer than 125 to confirm or not once a nomination is made, but isn't about the whole process or the time elapsed from empty seat to filled seat. Yeah ... sometimes I don't mind two different articles on the same subject because there will usually be two totally different angles as they all are very different writers with different points of view. But three articles plus two non-article threads (now one since I merged them), that was a bit much. -

Yeah, I get what you're saying ... just playing little 'devil's advocate' here. It's just so different for everyone. While I'm not saying your suggestion is such, it's often easy for people to say 'Well, he should just do this or that' when it's never that easy. I work in a profession where people just don't want to leave their jobs because their jobs are literally their lives, and have been their entire lives. While we earn a very nice salary, comparatively, and a good pension, it's just a really big thing for some to give up when it's been everything and all they are. I always say 'I'm not going to be one of those and keep hanging on when it's my time to go,' but when the time comes, it might be harder than it seems.

Yeah, it's something else I've commented on before, too. Because the writers/owners also write independently, and because they are spread out, I'm not sure that having regular 'assignment meetings' is possible or practical. But I think it's a valid issue to bring to ownership's attention and something they will have to figure out. -
Can they do a reversal of previous decisions, or do they have to be brought before them again? I've always stated, at least in recent years, that the potential for a presidential is a high priority in how I vote for president. I think now more than ever this is going to be an understandable priority for a lot. It's quite the civics lesson we're all getting on the inter-relation of the three branches of government. However, I wish there were a way for the Court to be completely apolitical in their decision making. But there is no way to get around individual 'sense' in legal interpretation.

Yeah, this is an ownership issue. Moderators can move and merge threads to help streamline forums to facilitate discussion but published articles that also appear as forum threads is a different scenario. We can close the comments and redirect but even then that also is its own can of worms. I think in the case recently with Mauer it was a matter of slow/no news that everyone jumped on it at once. It does happen, but really not that often, and certainly not with 3 articles and 2 threads on the same topic. -
I think the scenario didn't say you couldn't get sick, just that you wouldn't feel it. So, you'll end up playing hurt, not knowing it, continue to, and then your leg falls off. What then? Oh, you still won't feel it. (And yes, I'm being ridiculous.)

That's easy to say when we aren't in his position. Is your current job your dream job? The job you've wanted since you were a kid? With an organization you idolized from day one? It's easy for us on the sidelines to say, 'Yeah, walk away; you don't need this,' but I don't think it's quite so easy. Especially when he's 20 years younger than either of us. Heck, I worry about leaving my job when it's time. I'm one of the lucky ones to have that dream job.
