  1. I want that hoodie. Not sure I can make it happen.
  2. OY, Chief, you just had to. I'm trying to streamline the forum and you attempt to make this yet another Mauer thread???
  3. Moderator note: I merged two threads because there are just too many currently in the same subject. Since article threads can't be merged, I've merged the other two as reflected in the title.
  4. It's right wing garbage in the effort to delay the nomination process because they know there is no real justification to do it in the Senate or it potentially costs them votes and seats. They don't want Obama to begin the process at all. Everything I've read about his death from credible news sources said he died of natural causes and that there was no foul play involved. And any reports otherwise from other sources just shows you the lack of real journalism I media that it's about entertainment and not news.
  5. Yeah ... slow news week is my guess, but yeah.
  6. Heh ... I'd have to watch as I've never played and don't know how to play. But, if you want to try Rail Baron or Catan, I'd be down. I actually think it'd be more fun for this group to attempt something like Pictionary. Those would be works of art I'd probably save. <G>
  7. yeah, this could just turn into one of the biggest 'get out the vote' campaigns of all times, no matter the 'side' or 'middle' from which you hail.
  8. I really think the Republican Senators up for re-election are squirming a bit. What happens to the Court is always on my mind during elections, but it will now be on everyone's mind. I'm sort of in the 'Who cares who is nominated for president, but what of all those Senate elections' mode now.
  9. Can we please move on and discuss the topic? If you can't do so without extreme emotion from either side, walk away from this thread.
  10. I think they are in a tough spot ... letting a nomination come to vote, letting a nomination pass, or delaying the process until after the election. I read somewhere recently that this is not unprecedented to have a nomination process in an election year, I think I read there have been 14, so delaying by saying 'We can't possibly' isn't really a good reason. So ... what happens? Time will tell ... but I think no matter what, it puts the GOP Senate members in a very tough position ... and it could be impactful on any of their own campaigns, too. Edit: okay, so, this process hasn't happened that many times during a presidential election year, but it has happened.
  11. Okay ... let's move on. Put this thread back on track: Scalia, nominations, impacts.
  12. I just wrote this in a PM to someone, and I'll write it again, publicly, with some alterations: I was just completely shocked, not just in a death on the court, but his death. It was very unexpected and shocking news that will have major implications making not only the nomination process but this election possibly the most unique and interesting in history. It's historical! My post on FB was similar ... I think it was something like 'OMG ...news! Real news!' and a link to the CNN announcement. Yes, I'm a liberal, and I can't deny being hopeful, now that I've had some time to process some of this, of what this could mean for reversing decisions like Citizens United, but my initial reaction, the one you see above, is what was expressed and what I explained ... it's unexpected and shocking news. Never once was my feeling one of joy. I even commented on another FB post specifically that, that I don't celebrate death as it's not right. I don't even enter that death pool contest in this forum for the same reason. It's bad karma. But this news is what it is ... shocking. Some of your reactions are from perspectives of being conservatives and knowing I'm a liberal, and trying to to place emotions on me that you think I have because you may be dismayed. You are trying to characterize my post as something it wasn't. What I can do is compromise ... I'll take the exclamation point out of the title, but I'm not altering the original post as I think I've explained it. If none of you wants to accept that, that is your problem. If I had made a post that included the words 'Yippee!' or 'Hurray!' that would be concerning, and I'd have already altered it or removed it and given myself a warning ... which I've done with of post of mine in the past. What everyone needs to keep in mind while posting anywhere on this site ... you need to give the other poster the benefit of a doubt because we don't know one another, don't characterize other posters' posts and put your own spin on because you yourself are not objective, and keep it out of the realms of personal as that drives discussions down the wrong path. You don't know anyone's intent, so work to find that out, respectfully, instead of making accusations and guesses. Even now this discussion has become about me and my intent, even after I've already explained it, instead of what will happen next and how this news impacts the future.
  13. This is why this whole situation is so flabbergasting for me ... never has this been so ... interesting and impactful. That's why my initial reaction was OMG!!! because this is so ... OMG!
  14. This all goes back to what a few of us have been saying for a while how having a Dem in the White House is so vital for Court appointments.
  15. Yeah, I think he has potential to be a really good Justice, I just don't see him wanting the job after his years as president.
  16. Yeah, that's the idea I like and think would be effective. I wasn't understanding the suggestion of working a deal where you force Ginsberg to retire promising to replace each Justice with a like-minded justice. I don't think that does anything.
  17. I think he has the potential to make a great judge. But I don't think he'd do it. And certainly not so soon after being president.
  18. I'm not understanding why this would be a good thing. I think your original suggestion is the best. Make 5 moderate nominations, and let the Senate deal with it, or not. Their jobs would be on the line and I don't think them blocking nomination after nomination would reflect well on them.
  19. Well, not sure how healthy he was, really, given his weight and stress of the job. But yeah, nice way to go.
  20. Quit characterizing posts to suit your agenda. I've already made my statement about it and that's the end of it. It was also completely surprising, shocking even.
  21. I agree. But I also think their delaying in a decision could impact the election in November, not in their favor. So there will be some interesting discussion and maneuvering in the near future.
  22. That's what I was thinking, too. This is why this is such huge news. The timing of this and how it will play out ... it isn't something we've ever had, seen, whatever ... and may not again.
  23. Why would she do that?
  24. Ahhh ... you think more intelligence will help you solve a Sisyphean dilemma?
  25. How am I celebrating? Did I say 'Yippee!'? Your jumping to conclusions is what is disgusting and characterizing my post as such was just wrong. It's HUGE news, HUGE ... and that was my point. And the implications are HUGE. Get a grip.
