  1. That's a little misleading ... "Congress had approved the funding for 2015 and 2016 but Republican lawmakers had obstructed its release. Their opposition was not legally binding, so Washington proceeded with the move just hours before President Donald Trump entered the White House on January 20." The money is meant for humanitarian assistance. Obama didn't just decide to give them money and then went around Congress to do so.
  2. Viggo and Johnny would be at the top of mine.
  3. Meh ... it's a possibility ... just not a probability. But I get what you mean, and don't disagree, just that ... stranger things have happened even if well out of the realm of probable.
  4. Or you could buy one of those packets with sliced apple and PB. That would satisfy the requirement. Incidentally, my sliced apple and PB is not of that variety. I actually sliced a honey crisp apple, and I buy PB packets to take with me for this purpose.
  5. There was a time in my life I could have said that. PB on/with everything and for every meal in some way. I have PB in my lunch today to go with the sliced apples I brought.
  6. Spin and I have had this discussion before ... and have even 'mapped out' what we think the alignments should be. In most cases, it kept the rivalries in tact because those rivalries already have a regional closeness and could easily be grouped in the same divisions. However ... it's the NL/AL thing that would not work for many. I could not imagine what would happen, for instance, if the Cubs were moved from the NL. But with a DH no longer being a thing (assuming that's the predication for re-alignment), it would seem that staying in one league or the other would be in name/tradition only. Not sure it would be fair to ask them to get over it, but maybe it would.
  7. I've traveled to Australia/New Zealand and Japan. I was able to adjust much more quickly than I ever do when traveling inside the U.S. or to Europe. It makes me wonder if the greater the time zone difference, the easier it is to adjust? Coming home from those places was much easier for me ... don't know why, but it was. I basically arrived home a couple hours later than when I left. I might have found myself getting tired earlier in the evening or up a little earlier in the morning, but nothing like waking up at 2am unable to sleep which is always the case for me to/from Europe. Then again, it could be an age thing, too ... the older I get, the harder it gets.
  8. Oh my God ... do NOT bring that topic here ... shame on you!
  9. Oh, I know, I get the logic ... but I get screwed up either way. When I travel to Europe for work, I don't even try anymore to get myself 'right.' I get to the rehearsals in the morning, nap in the afternoon, get back to the hall for the concert in the evening, try to go to bed after a post-concert drink, wake up at 3-4 in the morning ... rinse, wash, repeat. I'm always exhausted and off my game, but as long as I am where I'm supposed to be when I'm supposed to be doing my job to the best I can, that's all I can do. But I know that the work I bring along with me to do while the concert is ongoing ... isn't at the highest standard, and I miss things, and I don't work as quickly or as efficiently. And people think touring is so glamourous and all those places I get to see! Heh, it's a wonder I see anything outside the concert halls and hotels. At the beginning of tours I really try to stay awake all day, see some stuff, do my work, but halfway in, I give up. Some of my colleagues take various substances to help them get through, some their clocks and bodies quickly and easily adjust. It's just an individual thing, but I would hate the rigors of a baseball player flying coast to coast. I couldn't do it well and I'm sure there are some that really don't. It would be an interesting study to follow two players of equal levels around for the season, maybe even teammates ... choose one that adjusts well to time zone travel and one that doesn't ... and track how they play day to day and see what difference there is.
  10. What kind of a prospect is 'not significantly' more, though? I've stated all along I'd have taken DeLeon and Alvarez. I'd have tried to negotiate for more, but I would have taken that. I would have taken DeLeon and Stewart, too. But I consider both those 2nds as significantly more. Maybe we are confused over semantics, but if what else was offered, and I do believe there was more offered, wasn't anything that would benefit us, it's a no go for me. It basically means that it was DeLeon (useful) and two not significantly more pieces (not useful). That's my reasoning. I think you think that it didn't matter much to you what else came with DeLeon that DeLeon is really all that mattered to you. Again, I may be misconstruing what you are trying to say, but I believe that what you would have accepted was too weak an offer and I'm okay with a pass on it. Not completely happy, not not disappointed, but okay. I'm part of the 'side' that thinks an asset needs to bring back more. We couldn't get it done for whatever reason. I think that the Dodgers thought that Forsythe was an okay-enough upgrade and was satisfactory to them, that that kind of a piece was the goal ... and if they could get more than that without giving up much more than what they did, they were going to try. But they were going to hold firm to nothing more significant than DeLeon because they had Forsythe in the wings. Given that, I'm okay they passed ... but disappointed a deal couldn't be struck.
  11. Moderator note: If you want to discuss your opinions of the FO failing in this, do so. But name-calling ... no matter how 'clever' ... is a no go, especially if it's a one-off post.
  12. That's why I like Dutch apple pie ... it's like apple crisp in a pie. But then, you have to really love apple crisp, which I do.
  13. The difference is that with football, they can fly out mid-week for a game on Sunday (typically). They aren't flying out Thursday evening for a game on Friday.
  14. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ... I'm not sure this falls into the remake category because they are so different from one another and from what I read the latter wasn't trying to be the former, but rather they were two separate takes on the same source. The former will always be my favorite, but I truly liked the latter, but then I've always liked the 'fantasticalness' that is Tim Burton.
  15. Yeah ... I was joking. I guess the 'snick' wasn't obvious enough.
  16. Well for cripes' sake ... they remade Steel Magnolias, too??? What is Lifetime doing to the top all-time tear-jerker chick flicks? Pfffffffft ... What's next? Terms of Endearment??? Is nothing sacred????? /snick.
  17. Yup. Those damn women need to be punished for everything they do.
  18. But true. You're old.
  19. I'm sort of surprised it's not even. Flying west isn't exactly a trip either when your clock is 3 hrs ahead of time. For a game that starts at 7 and you feel like it's 10, after flying across country, etc. Ugh. I am a horrible traveler when it comes to jet lag. I have a terrible time adjusting even for 1 hour of difference. I'm sure it's an individual thing, but if I had to switch zones as much as players do going back and forth throughout the season, yuck. I would be less than my best most of the time.
  20. Moderator warning: As is always the case around issues where there are strong and passionate disagreements, it's difficult to not make/take things personally ... but please try. First off, this isn't a thread about Dave's source. He brought us some information, we discussed it a LOT a LOT a LOT, along with other rumors out there, and it didn't work out. So let's not make it about Dave and his credibility, because that isn't the case. Discuss and disagree all you want, but don't shoot the messenger, no matter what your feelings are about said messenger. Second, when you disagree with people, leave out the snottiness and the smug 'I'm right' attitudes. That's a good way to fire up the making it/taking it personal, and it doesn't further anyone's good points of discussion. Third, as frustrated as we are about the state of the Twins, it's just a game. Be angry if you want. Question the decisions all you want. Make points about what you think should have been done/not done. But do so respectfully of one another, the FO, players here or there, on-field managers, etc. I've been generous about not handing out warning points, but I'm going to continue to be quick-handed at hiding posts and comments that lead to nothing but squabbling. And the same goes for the other Dozier thread. Thank you for your consideration.

  22. Or that's all they were willing to give up and were trying to get more than DeLeon was worth. And they found out that a straight up deal was only worth Forsythe.
  23. The new remake of Beaches showing on Lifetime isn't as good as the original. Heh.
  24. Lol, I came back to post that ... oops, that has no flour. I'm not sure what recipe I've read that has the minimal flour.
  25. And most flourless cakes do have some flour, but not a main ingredient. The recipes I've seen (I've actually never made one, but I've read several recipes) called for 1-2 Tbls
