    I’m accepting but not resting easy because I think the situation is sad for Buxton, sad for us and sad for baseball 🙁

    Because it would be hugely egregious to publicly state another’s private medical issues. While Buxton is a very public figure for us and of course we all want details, but disclosure of that nature is morally, ethically and maybe even legally wrong. It might satisfy our curiosities but we are not owed that, as frustrating as that may be to some.

    100%? Yeah, I don’t believe that, at all. But if he is then Lee is at 3rd and Lewis in the outfield.

    Who’s at 2nd? Polanco could very well be gone after this season. Lewis or Lee could play 2nd, too. I know that you are certain that the veteran presence will win out, but if they decline Polo’s option, things just are not as log-jammed as some think. And Lee very well could start the year in AAA, but that will depend on him and how he does.

    They could decline Polanco’s option … and Martin I think will be in the OF … so I don’t see this as a logjam more than filling needs elsewhere

    Yeah, I thought trading Arraez after 2019 was a good idea … and trading Miranda after his year was a good idea … it’s hard to know when it’s a good idea. We’ve seen this year what a DH only player does for the flexibility of the team and I’m not really in favor of something like that in today’s game, but I guess that depends on who the DH is

    Heh, not really a football fan. My motto is ‘If the Packers lose, it’s a good day’ and that’s about as far as it goes. But if the Vikings are having a good year, I’ll jump on the bandwagon, but over all, not really that into football. And there certainly seems like there’s a lot more consternation with that group. Part of my mindset about this choice is the knowing. Choose, win the WS tomorrow KNOWING the next 10 yrs are gonna suck. I mean, yeah, it’s an easy choice to choose win now and don’t look forward. I do get that. But I don’t want to know that the next 10 years are gonna really suck. It takes something away from it all for me, so why bother then? And the same ones who will make that choice of win now will complain about the next 10 yrs sucking even though they chose it. The other part is, I’m a fan of possibility. Doesn’t mean I’m ‘satisfied’ to just win division titles, it just means it gives you the possibility of the next level and I’m all for that. And anything can happen. Probability is a different matter and I take that in stride. Some just have to have it all and anything less is worthless to them, anything less than all is losing to them. That’s an opinion they are entitled to. Different strokes, et al. But, you can’t win it all if you don’t win the division first. So, forced to choose, I chose as I did. And that gives me complaining rights when we don’t win it all. You don’t get complaining rights if you chose to win for 10 yrs of sucking. 🙂

    Well, of course it’s more difficult than that, but it’s not that difficult. Most of all the players being waived were on expiring contracts. If a team is out of it, they aren’t making a claim for those players. It will be the teams that still have a chance, like Cleveland. I don’t think one team should get to claim all of them. While this year was unique, I do think there needs to be better rules put into place for future years. The what and how will need some discussion, but actually changing the rules is not difficult. That said, I do put some onus on the Twins for Cleveland being in a position to go for it. There are moves the FO could have made at the start of the season or at this year’s deadline that likely would have made a difference and made our margin in the division greater so it wouldn’t have made sense for Cleveland to do this. But the should’ve, would’ve, could’ve arguments … eh, hard telling for sure.

    It’s not difficult to change these rules at the end of the season. So will they and how? If they don’t they don’t see this as an issue, and maybe it’s not, maybe this year is, as I said, an anomaly. But if they want to change the rules, it won’t be difficult. The teams that picked up players are still trying to win and still have a chance to win THIS year. That Cleveland is still in it is the fault of the Twins, imo. If they didn’t have a chance, they wouldn’t have done it. The teams that were worse didn’t feel they could compete to the end, is my guess.

    The question still remains … will these rules be adjusted somehow, and how, after the season is over. A couple of teams shouldn’t be allowed to claim everyone, imo, so just wondering if rules will be adjusted in some way … like one claim then to the end of the line. Don’t even know the best way around it. Or just leave it as it is thinking that this year is an anomaly.

    No. He is a shell of his former self, sadly for him. He will not help us through the next month and into the playoffs, should we make it.

    yeah ... wondering how soon after the season is over these rules change ... claim one, back to the end of the line. It's like the Guardians knew exactly who the Twins would target ... shocking (not at all)

    I don’t think anyone is satisfied with that as the goal and I don’t think it is the goal despite the outcome. The goal is always to win it all. But I’d also rather win the division every year than be at the bottom of it every year. That is being competitive. We might not like that as the only outcome or result and I’d rather have more, but I’d still rather win something every year, even if not the grand prize, than lose every year. Winning something puts you in the position to win more. Losing just makes you a loser.

    But we wouldn't even be in that position if others had done their jobs to begin with. As I just said, this isn't all on him, not even close. But you make it sound like it is. It isn't. He's not a great manager but he is far from the worst.
