  1. Might it be that Darvish said no to BOTH the offer and being a Twin? That he didn’t want to come here AND the offer wasn’t the best? While I think there is enough evidence to suggest their offer wasn’t as good as Chicqgo’s, I think there is also evidence he didn’t want to come here. He had an open invitation to visit Mpls and chose not to. But we’ll never know if a better offer could have persuaded him, and we’ll never know if a better offer wouldn’t have made a difference.
  2. No doubt it will help the team. I just think over the next 2-3 years, Darvish will be the better pitcher and would have helped the team more. Heh, I probably should just stop ... for someone who really wasn't invested in him nor is disappointed he isn't coming here, just think he would have been better. And no doubt Lynn and/or Cobb would be better than what we've had. They would certainly be valuable ... having a rotation without typical 5 or AAAA types always is ... I just don't think it gets us past other teams who have better ... like the Astros ... and therefore would limit how far we get into the playoffs. But if you think one or both of those would be better ... good. I hope so, if we get one of them. It's a long season and so much could happen ... I'm just glad this part of it is coming to an end no matter what at this point!
  3. I don’t think Darvish is an ace, never said he was.
  4. I get that. As I said, I wasn’t invested in signing Darvish just because I never thought we would. And I very well could be proven wrong ... meh, none of us really knows for certain how anything will play out ... but I do think Darvish will be the better pitcher over the next 2-3 years, better in the way we need ... a front end starter, not an ace, but a front-end guy. I just don’t think the others will be that over the same time period. With the core we have, I think having Darvish gets us far deeper into the playoffs than anyone else available in free agency this year. But who knows? I’m not disappointed about not signing Darvish but I do think our chances of going deeper are less without him. I don’t think our chances are strong with the others, either. But I will be very ecstatic to be hopefully proven wrong.
  5. Oh, come on, really? I never thought Darvish would sign here and have been pretty tired of how the off-season has played out. Throughout this whole ... thing ... I’ve been pretty clear on that without emotional screaming or emotional screaming rebuttals. I’m hardly screaming about anything other than stating an opinion. However, what this team does need is a front-end starter. I do think that Darvish would have provided that for the first 2-3 years of whatever contract he signed, if he had signed with us. I don’t think Lynn, Cobb or Arrieta will provide us with that at all. I think Lynn or Cobb will be very good in our rotation for 2-3 years (not 4) but I don’t think either of them will be the front-end starter that I think we need. And Arrieta? No thank you. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable with even only 2 yrs on him. I appreciate you think differently and are welcome to state your opinions, too, but stop the screaming otherwise.
  6. There will still be Darvish threads to read (or ignore). Three so far today have been started ...
  7. As much as people didn't want to go 6 on Darvish, I wouldn't want to go 4 on either of those two. I think Darvish was worth the 6th year for the upside in the short term. Those two don't have the same upside to make 4 worth it to me, plus losing draft picks. I'd go 3 on Lynn, he'd be my preferred.
  8. As much as many didn’t want Yu for 6 years, I’m not sure I’d want any of those for 4 years. And I especially don’t want Arrieta for even 3. I think he’s on a very fast decline. Maybe 2 with an option, but definitely not guaranteed. You’re right that Archer is going to cost way too much. Eh, I just don’t know. I’m really not at all surprised Yu went elsewhere, but we really need front-end help ... that’s really not any of those left. I’d rather look for really short-term deals and hope someone steps up.
  9. My response to the signing ... meh. Not what I hoped to happen but not at all surprising. My next hope would be that when we play the Cubs in Wrigley at the end of June, we face Yu and beat the crap out of the Cubs.
  10. You know it, Baby! I'll be down there the 19th ... woohoo! I absolutely love ST that week before games start ... I especially love watching the pitchers do bunting practice ... heh.
  11. At this point I’ve lost interest in how it ends up.
  12. Really? There's a zip line across the Mississippi? Seems foolish for something you can just walk across in about 10 steps knee-deep. http://www.lakesnwoods.com/images/LakeIt78.jpg
  13. I've said this before but, imo, the problem here is Darvish more than anything else. He doesn't like/want what's been offered and is waiting or trying to get other teams into bidding for him and no one is budging. I really don't think he has any leverage now. He's shown his cards, and not for the good. If he wants LA so badly, what is their motivation for offering him more? The 'big spenders' are either waiting for next year and/or can't shed the salary they need to this year. If those teams were serious about getting him on their team, they'd have done it by now. At this point it just seems that Yu wanted something and someone very specific and doesn't want to take anything/anyone else. I'm at the point, well, I was at that point a while ago, that I don't want someone here that doesn't want to be here. I worry that it will lead to a 'not very cohesive' team when one of the members just doesn't want to be a part of the team.
  14. It's not so bad. There are several trains a day to Chicago.
  15. Yeah ... I'd have to see what we'd be offering and what everyone would sign for. I was always a Napoli fan in his heyday, but if it meant we would sign Darvish, I'd do a one-year, reasonable amount deal for him. But not sure where I'd put him ... I guess bench bat/DH ... can he even play 1st anymore? Guess he'd be a back up there? And if we signed him, I guess Vargas would lose his spot? I can't even think of the roster shuffling. It just seems like a piece we don't need. But ... for Darvish ... don't know. Again, I'd have to see the deals and numbers involved.
  16. x 1000. Ugh. If we end up with Odorizzi and are without Kepler this year because of a trade with the Rays, I can't even express my thoughts on that.
  17. The anticipation is starting to ramp up.

  19. Not for two weeks!
  20. Okay, well then, now I get it since I know you to be a huge, I say HUGE, Trump supporter.
  21. There should be no shoulds or shouldn’ts on this issue, IMO, except that everyone should be allowed to worship in their own way as long as they aren’t breaking a law in the process; and others, whether they like it or not, should let them. Politicians on both sides should just stay out of it.
  22. I actually don’t see this as a great example, but I do understand what you mean. They shouldn’t make it an issue on which to campaign. They don’t really need to make it an issue because it’s already protetected in the constitution, so yeah, don’t go there as a rallying cry in campaigns. But what I saw was the other side actually start to introduce bills, at the statehouse level, that make it illegal to kneel and force people to stand. That is akin to fascism and I would hope for individuals and the Dem party to stand up to that while not making it a specific platform for themselves.
  23. I can’t tell if you are serious or not.
  24. John Mahoney, RIP. (aka Frazier’s Dad, Martin Crane)
  25. Get a screen shot and PM Brock with it or post it here. In the meantime, refresh the screen and it goes away; at least in my experience that's what's happened.
