  1. You should work those into the original articles ... I find it interesting how much you all agree/disagree and I think is interesting information to include.
  2. Well there goes all my hope for signing Machado next year. Damn you!
  3. I’d actually feel more comfortable if you just handed it to Brian.
  4. That’s Brian’s department.
  5. Well, better than polar bear or alligator.
  6. Yeah, I’m rowing off and leaving you to deal with that.
  7. That’s terribly cynical of you!
  8. Gomez ... I’m not sure what I think of that ... I hate the idea of losing Kepler, but if it doesn’t hurt a little, something is wrong with the trade.
  9. But ... while I hope for it, I will still manage my expectations by remaining cynical. Brian, where’s your pitchfork now?
  10. Younger and team control are good. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s an excellent piece to add to our young core and hope a deal can be worked out. But it will cost us and until I see what ... but this is what we have to do to get front-end pitching.
  11. Yeah, I knew what you meant, and I’m not convinced he’s a better pitcher, at least for right now, but it’s definitely a good 2nd move, imho.
  12. I’m not sure it would be better, but it’s certainly a good 2nd move, depending on the cost.
  13. Yeah ... that's truly the one I can't figure out. No.
  14. It's not a bad coast ... but it's really cold in winter and spring ... I live right on it, I know.
  15. This issue comes up every so often. Try using only one space at the end of sentences instead of two and it will post correctly. For a more specific answer why, ask a Brock.
  16. I know ... but now there are specific posts talking about Mauer ... please start a new thread for that as not to ... well, sidetrack ... this one.
  17. Moderator reminder: Please talk about Mauer in another thread, unless there is a direct correlation to do so here. And I haven't seen a direct correlation. This is a 'we didn't sign Darvish' thread. Thank you one and all.
  18. I don't know what I call it. Party line talk? Disingenuous? Yeah, but that's nothing new. In today's world we hear 'promises' from all kinds of people that say it just to paint themselves well. I think cynical is a better word than skeptical in my case, at least when it comes to this kind of thing, and politics, and heads of corporations and ... I guess I've gotten much more particular and narrow about who and what I put my faith in these days. As I said, I think cynical is more appropriate. And, as I've said so many times before, there are just too many other things on my plate right now, that this seems quite a minuscule thing to spend my energies on in comparison. And I don't say that to belittle anyone who cares more about than I do. I just can't get myself 'up' for these kinds of things. But I do still hope ... I just ultra-manage my expectation. Don't mean to be heavy-handed with that answer ... but that's just how I am when I view these things.
  19. Most of the time. It’s not unprecedented that the largest offer doesn’t win, but the small number of times that happens is definitely the exception to the rule.
  20. Hoping, but not expecting. I’ve said all along that Darvish wasn’t coming here. Maybe the best way to put it is my expectations were pretty low on this front. Now ... it’s not to say that my anger and disappointment won’t make an appearance at some point. If I see nothing when the 25-man is assembled come the start of the season? I think Brian nailed it in his post. What happens now will be more telling for me because I never thought Darvish would come here. As to the general question of the thread, will we ever make a big FA signing? I don’t know. I guess the answer for me is no, until we do.
  21. Well, I guess I wasn’t ‘up’ about it so maybe my perspective is different than yours.
  22. I’m not defending anything here, but I don’t know if a better offer would have done it. Don’t know that it wouldn’t have, either. It’s not unprecedented for a player to take less to play somewhere specific. This is where wanting to know more from both sides and not being privy to such information can drive one to extreme despair! (Yeah, I’m joking. Mostly sort of.)
  23. I disagree. I think why is a very important part of being able to answer if they ever will.
