That sentence I’d say is a good summary of this article but with a bit more to think about. I’m not posting this in support of Pelosi, nor am I posting this to oppose those who oppose her. Just posting it because I do think there is some truth to it. And that’s not me saying she should be Speaker, nor am I saying those here who are opposed have issues with women in power because I know better. Many of you likely don’t watch Rachel Madow, but I do every so often. I find it to be ... intelligent, clever, thought provoking political entertainment. Last night she interviewed Lauren Underwood who flipped a seat in Illinois from a 4-termer Republican. A Democrat held that seat for a term prior, and before that, it was the seat held by Dennis Hastert. If you’ve lived in Illinois, you know that name, and probably why a Democrat won that seat after him. But being a ‘typical red’ district it went back. Anyway, she was very interesting. A nurse, never held political office, 32 yrs old, African American ... not only did she flip this district 51-49%, but she won the primary ... against 6 other opponents ... with 57% of the vote. When asked how she did this, she said their plan was to just go everywhere and talk to everyone. Her campaign was very grass roots and very personal. And Levi, you’ll like this one ... she said she went out to farms and fields and talked to farmers and people in very small rural areas, where people told her that they hadn’t been visited by any politician on either side for years. This is why it was such an upset ... her campaign was so off anyone’s radar and thought that Hultgren was a shoe in for re-election.

I haven’t read the article but am just responding to some of the posts. It seems like the strategy to win a presidential election becomes a strategy of geography before anything else. And then a strategy of issues once you have the geography figured out. This is why I’m for changing how the EC works.

I read his comment as a question not a statement that players are unhappy. He’s asking ... will the players be okay with this? Do you ask them or do you tell them? And if they are unhappy do you trade, cut or keep them? And I have the same questions. If you’ve been trained your whole life to be one thing, what kind of a transition is this really for them? Will it make them better ,,, or worse?

Maybe in the general politics thread. That said, this was done quickly because the Dems took the House and they are afraid of investigations and want to control and limit the Mueller investigation. But I also think this was inevitable. They knew the Dems were going to and this has been in the works.

I think the Carolinas are pretty entrenched as Braves territory. There are also a LOT of minor league teams in and around that area, including the Charlotte Knights, the AAA team for the White Sox. -

Maybe. There is more to being in shape than losing weight. I’ll see what he brings to Spring and how he performs next season. That said, I think your earlier 260 is completely unrealistic if not impossible. When was he 260? When he was still growing. He is not going to be 260 again, imo. -
I saw the press conference ... well, about 5-10 mins of it. I didn’t like her answers to that question. She should have just answered, ‘That has yet to be decided’ and left it at that and not mentioned anything about wanting to be Speaker again. I also hate the questions about ‘women’s issues.’ As far as I’m concerned there are no such things. Every issue is a woman’s issue. And every issue is a mans’s issue, too. Let’s stop with this genderizing crap; it’s only done to lessen significance on certain issues.

With the voter suppression tactics in place all over, its very difficult not to be. I mentioned Georgia, and there’s what happened in North Dakota, Florida once again removed voters from the registration list ... and this is being done in many places to solidify Republican control. Kemp in Georgia said it ... if we allow all these registered voters to vote, they will take over. Okay, not an exact quote, but pretty close. Republicans claim fraud, yet very little is every found when investigated. But voter suppression is real and massive and needs to stop.

What the Dems need to do as much as anything is really get after these voter suppression tactics at play almost everywhere. What happened in Georgia is sickening and appalling and that’s an election that not only should be challenged but redone.

This very well could be how they go, but I’m not sure what you consider a viable payroll? Could you set a budget and show where you’ve allocated your budget and to whom? Also, I’m not against Murphy, completely, as a player. But he’s not a role model, imo, and should never be that given his stance on outside issues.

Well, looking for some positive, even if slight ... the Dems flipped two traditionally Republican House seats in wealthy suburban Chicago. Both campaigned heavily on health care. And one of the two also hit hard on stricter gun control. One flip was one Republicans really didn’t want to lose and it was an upset.

If you hear such a thing again, suggest they go to their polling place, if they can, and ask for a provisional ballot.

When I did research on some city offices, every green candidate had the exact same blurb. ‘As a Green Party candidate I support ... ‘ Okay, granted, not a high profile office but you couldn’t write something more personal than copying and pasting? I try to find other candidates to vote for, but there rarely are any. Even my state rep and senator were unopposed but I am in a very dense Democratic ward and precinct.

I got these races mixed up. I still want Gillum to win, but his opponent is DeSantis, not Scott. And I still want Scott to go down who is running for the Senate against the incumbent Democrat Nelson. Both races are very close. DeSantis is a big Trump guy and Scott is a Trump clone ... wealthy liar and all around evil human being.
