  1. Has anyone seen dollar amounts? I’ve only seen it was a 4-year deal.
  2. The Green Book ... most excellent.
  3. Moderator warning: stop your bickering.
  4. Here, here! You could post that last sentence in just about every thread and I think it would be true. Although without it many of us would be far less entertained with a lot less to rail about.
  5. Every once in a while it’s good to appreciate the simple pleasures, and appreciate you can appreciate the simple pleasures.
  6. Yep. We saw turnovers in the suburbs here, where the Democratic candidates ran on healthcare as their primary issue, and they won in traditional republican strongholds because healthcare resonates with everyone across parties.
  7. I would retire sooner if not for health care costs. I can’t afford to. I have a colleague who is close to retirement age but can’t because his wife, non-employed is 8 yrs younger and, well, medical costs.
  8. I’m not sure it will happen, but what will Trump’s reaction be when/if Congress overrides a presidential veto?
  9. MODERATOR WARNING: this is not a thread specifically about Gordon, nor his HOBBY. Seriously, this tangent has derailed many a thread in the past ... move on. And its mention, when no. other. players’ hobbies get mentioned, (i.e. all the time May puts into his gaming career) becomes very suspect in its motivation. Knock it off. Points will be awarded if another baseball thread is derailed in this manner. Talk about Gordon the player, period. We’ve had many, many reports on how hard he works, enough with the mention of his rapping hobby. Further, as this is a moderator warning, DO NOT reply to this post in this thread.
  10. Those are just added perks to the signing.
  11. Heh, my first thought was, ‘Hmm, wonder what Mike has to say about this.’ I guess nothing ... but in a good way.
  12. Yeah ... which goes to show ... this isn’t the Dems playing partisan politics as was the accusation made many posts above. Although the Republican Congress could end this shut down and override the president, right? Did I read that elsewhere? They don’t want to give him what he wants, but they don’t want to outright appear that they don’t want to give him what he wants hoping the public blames the Dems for the shut down. Okay, maybe a bit far fetched, but if this is about partisan politics, it’s not on the Dems. Not this time, anyway. But this whole wall is a stupid, stupid, stupid idea and a gross waste of money.
  13. This I could actually understand and would consider the allocation of money to. Some of the new protocols Obama had instituted WERE working until the new regime took over. They should build on that. But $5billion for the building of a wall ... that doesn’t solve anything. What about manning it? Are you going to have a guard at every visible point for people to get over? What about circumvented via the water? This expense stops nothing and solves nothing. A reasonable approach, yes. Building a wall is nothing more than Trump trying to extend his already too small ... appendage. You are very correct in stating he isn’t interested in solution or needs.
  14. . I actually think they don’t need better border security. Not to the tune of billions.
  15. Well, so? I’m not sure what you are saying or what you are proposing. Just give him $5billion because that’s what he wants? He was given some and shut down the govt because he didn’t get it all. If we took a national referendum right now, the wall wouldn’t pass. I don’t care what Trump supporters want, and not all who voted for Trump want this, they aren’t the majority here and the president represents all of us ... or should ... not just those who voted for him. You act like $2billion is nothing, but it’s a LOT. Especially since so much else in this country is faltering from health care to education to infrastructure. But that guy in the White House could care less about anyone else. And, quite frankly, I don’t think he even cares about those of his supporters who wants this; he just loves fanning the flames on racism and hate. He wants it and that’s all that matters to him and shut down the government because he didn’t get his way. I am not about to support a spoiled, bully and give him what he wants because, what, it’s just easier? No. Again, maybe you could clarify exactly what you think should happen here because it reads as if you think we just allocate $5billion to the wall and be done with it. That will hardly be the end of it.
  16. Do you have a link because I didn’t find that information.
  17. He’s being an immature baby, in other words because he can’t get his way. I think the Dems and the Repubs had come to some sort of agreement and then Trump stepped in. So here we are. This isn’t about Dems and Repubs unwilling to work together. This is about Trump wanting what he wants and Congressional Repubs rolling over and playing dead instead of standing up and doing what’s right for the good of the country. I get being tired of partisan bull****, but that’s not what this is.
  18. Um, where’d you hear that? Trump?
  19. Yeah, many did, but more didn’t vote for him. And, what Pseudo said. Trump said Mexico would pay for it. Third, the two examples are still not the same. I agree that Dems and Repubs should be working together to find solutions the the problems in this country ... health care being a big one ... but not spending billions on building a ****ing wall that will do nothing but be a wall. That is not something I want my representatives to reach across the aisle to compromise on ... I want them to reach across the aisle to ****ing kill it because it deserves to be killed.
  20. This is not at all the same thing. Not at all. This isn’t the Democrats playing games. This is them doing what’s right and not giving in to ****ing stupidity. This is all Trump and the Republicans. Spending on a border wall is NOT something I want my Reps to back down on. It’s stupid, senseless spending.
  21. Just add taking away a child’s innocence to his long list of horribleness. But then what does one expect from soulless evil?
  22. I have too many good friends and know too many good people who are White Sox fans so I wish them all peace and good will, even though they may be misguided.
  23. I’ve heard mixed reviews on Frontier, but I’m wary of flying either them or Spirit ... Spirit is a definite no. And haven’t ever tried Allegient as they don’t fly into Chicago and just aren’t convenient. But I fly American a LOT. And have been since when I lived in Canada. They were the best way in, out and around. The only thing about American that makes me grumble is when you can use and how much air miles are but I have never had a bad experience with dealing with them or with a flight ... and that’s 20 years of service. I rarely take Delta because they aren’t non-stop out of Chicago to anywhere I travel, except the occasional flight I take to MSP. United was always a mixed bag for me but I rarely end up flying with them anymore as they are usually the most expensive. Southwest isn’t always the least expensive anymore, either. And I’ve taken neither Virgin America or Jet Blue. What other carriers are out there? I haven’t flown internationally for a while now, but JAL was great last I used them. KLM was always good. Had very good service on LOT, too. Lufthansa would be my low end. I’m pretty sure I’ve flown Swiss Air, too, but don’t recall anything about them. Anyone used SAS or Icelandic Air?
  24. I don’t like flying to begin with for a number of reasons, but I hate the open seating. While getting a boarding number and lining up to board in a civilized queue makes the process seem smoother, I like knowing I have an exact seat ... aisle close to the front ... and can board with my group or later or last.
