  1. As nice as his 2 HRs on the game are, I loved watching him leg out that double
  2. Omg, I can’t believe he legged that into a double.
  3. That’s not a lot to ask, is it?
  4. I just want the Twins to score one run each inning.
  5. Point being ... rebut the post instead of assuming characteristics of the poster. You turned it personal about Craig. Bring your expertise to the discussion and tell us what you think of the article and why you disagree with it. And I’m not saying I’m completely innocent, either. We all look for and post confirmation of what we think. But at the very least, go after the post if you disagree with it, not the poster. We get far too much of that all over the internet.
  6. Many on the right are cheerleading and constantly in search of such confirmation bias indicators... It works both ways in this country, and I don’t think one over the other can claim any kind of righteous indignation.
  7. 3:12? I guess you need a Chicago phone number to get this ... that’s the area code for the city of Chicago. I used to wonder why they started evening games at 7:11. That one was, perhaps, a bit easier to figure out. (7-11 used to be a sponsor)
  8. <shrug> Negative and positive are just subjective. Some things I agree with, some I don’t.
  9. The anthems are over done. It’s just not necessary to do this every day, before every game. I think doing the anthem once, at the top of the first game of a series, is fine. You look around and most ignore it. Not to mention most of the ‘performances’ of it are just awful ... don’t get me started on that. But ‘God Bless America’ (which isn’t an official anthem, it’s just an Irving Berlin song) can go away. I get why we did that in the beginning, and I was good with that, but retire it now. It’s time. Or do it only on certain days, i.e. 4th/July, Memorial Day.
  10. First off, no said anyone was forced to say the pledge with their hands on their hearts today. I said that that was what we did when I was in grade school, that that was what we were taught and what we were expected to do, with nothing taught about what we were saying. I couldn’t even pronounce some of the words, let alone knew what they even were. As for being forced at all, again, no one said that. My statements above about not required was a question, indicated with a question mark(?) because I don’t know what is and isn’t something that is done daily or not in schools. It’s been a while since I was even in one, let alone attended, particularly the lower grades. And there was a case of a student being expelled for refusing to participate, but I didn’t know the details of that. I thought it was in the last 5-10 years. Negative and fearful? Again, I don’t read that at all. I read varying viewpoints, some of which I agree with, some of which I don’t. No one is being negative, positive, fearful or joyful, just saying what they think.
  11. Oh yay! Glad I heard wrong! We need these two back in the lineup.
  12. Someone said in another thread that he had heard they were going to give him a rehab assignment and that we may not see him before the ASB. But that is from an old woman’s recollection ... anyone else recall this? I hate losing to the White Sox. Just hate it. But the Sox aren’t the Orioles, so season sweeping them was never going to be a reality. Still, I hope we take the next two. And the errors ... ugh, please stop, Twins. I might be inclined to give Adrianza a tiny, little bit of leeway his first game back for one error, but not two. Get it together, Twins.
  13. I thought saying the pledge in schools was something schools couldn’t require, based on a case where someone refused and was expelled? Didn’t it go to the SC, and now schools cannot require it? Don’t recall the details, but I think it involved a school somewhere in Texas, of course. If I were a teacher, I would also use the pledge as a teaching opportunity, as ewen has said he does. Depending on the grade and ages of students, I would discuss its origins, the author, how it has changed through the years and why, its meaning and definitions of the words. (As a 5 yr old, I could barely pronounce everything, let alone understand individual meanings of the words, let alone understand why we did this). So often with these various traditions we have surrounding the symbols of our country, it has become recitation without understanding or meaning or feeling. I think it’s important that students have genuine understanding, and then, as adults, can make choices of patriotism that have true meaning to them, and not simply to do it because that’s just how and what is done. And be respectful of everyone’s choices in the matter. We said the pledge and sang ‘My Country ‘Tis of Thee’ every morning when I was in grade school, with our hands over our hearts. It was just what we learned to do and did. It was a little ... robotic and indoctrinating ... for lack of a better description, as it was simply ‘Do this because this is what we do and you’ll get in trouble if you don’t.’
  14. Probably? Assume you don’t have cable, but if so, probably available in inDemand.
  15. I know Rachel Maddow isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but her show tonight might be of interest as she did a debate recap by saying everyone single one of the candidates had a really good moment, then explained what and why and showed the clips. If you didn’t catch the debates, or didn’t see them all, it might interest you.
  16. If you want to track Kimbrel, track Kimbrel. If you started this thread to stir some in your face stuff, then yes, get over it and move on. If you started this thread to grouse about how the Twins FO doesn’t spend and/or money is the answer to player acquisition, then don’t be so disingenuous and start a thread on that topic, using this as an example of a missed opportunity. But since this is about Kimbrel, keep it to that. The Twins discussion forum is over there ——-> Consider this a warning.
  17. Maybe fresh isn’t the best way to put it ... less worn out than the other teams works for me.
  18. Yeah, these damn psychic powers are horrible to live with. I’m always a step ahead of everyone else.
  19. I guess my spidy sense is better than yours, unfortunately.
  20. Oh, but please don’t say the corresponding move is Rosario to the IL.
  21. !!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s me, excited! Dang, I’m out of town, too.
  22. Anyone going to the games in Chicago? Sadly, I’m out of town... maybe next time.
