  1. If the Twins want to go for it and compete next year, Buxton needs to be ready. He needs to get his reps. If he's not up due to another injury, okay, I get that, but if he's not up because of control, that's a bit self-serving. If he's ready he should be up and playing and getting his reps in at the ML level. It just strikes me as a little 'cheap' and not quite ethical even if technically it's a move they could make.
  2. I know you are being a bit tongue in cheek hoping for an injury to a player, but I really hope there are no more injuries to Buxton and he's back up in September to get some reps in at the ML level before the off-season. If the only reason there is to not call him up in September is control over another year of playing time, I hope they don't do that, and I really don't want there to be an 'injury excuse' to do it, either, but would understand that.
  3. I think it’s a good concept but not sure it’s practical because I think we have too many pitchers. Is Santana done for the season? Mejia? You mentioned Odorizzi in your article, but not in your tweet ... does he get a piggyback or will he try to pitch complete? And would our BP get enough work in this scenario? We have just as many pitchers there we need to see and give work to, imo.
  4. Any of you Food Network watchers? New series that started this last year called ‘Girl Meets Farm’. Not sure exactly where she’s at but I think near the Fargo/Moorhead area. She’s the daughter of a colleague of mine ... fun show.
  5. Moderator's Note: "I Told You So" is not respectful, and is not acceptable posting style at this site. It leads to bickering, rather than change any minds. After having a moderator discussion on this thread we decided to close it.
  6. I'm not missing any point. I get it ... catching Cleveland was going to be tough. I already said that, did I not? And I said it was going to be worse with the tweaking they did. But you can't know what would or would not have happened with certainty because the team now is different. They sold and didn't buy. You don't know what would have happened had they bought a piece or two or three if that's what decision was made instead. I just think it's a pointless argument, because right or wrong, it is what it is.
  7. I'm not arguing for or against the sell, because it is what it is. But I'm not sure it's really fair to say, 'See? Selling was the right thing to do given our record since then.' We don't know what would have been with the pieces that are gone, particularly Escobar and Lynn who seems to be pitching with consistant goodness. But then, if they had stayed here, no telling how they would have performed, either. Yeah, I agree, catching Cleveland was going to be an uphill fight, made even steeper with the tweaking they did, and as I said in the first sentence, not going to argue right or wrong here, but I don't think comparing post sell records is exactly an accurate argument supporting the sell because it's a different team now than it was then.
  8. Ooops ... sorry ... at least that's what I thought I heard the broadcasters say. I'd be more than happy to be wrong on that.
  9. Yup. Even if against the Tigers, it's fun to see a win in this manner. And it was the first pinch-hit home run by the Twins all season.
  10. Moderator warning: Please refrain from characterizing posters and making this about them. This is a game recap. Make your posts about that.
  11. yeah, and people in Hell want ice water.
  12. Actually, Thorpe was called up yesterday and pitched for Rochester today at noon, I think taking Stewart’s place in the rotation.
  13. I thought I had read somewhere that they aren’t going to play him every day in the beginning to guard against reinjury.
  14. You couldn't do 40-50?? (Okay, I'm really kidding with that.) Has Thorpe moved up officially to AAA yet? I'm seeing he's starting for Rochester tomorrow, per Nate Rowan. edit: oops ... guess this is already being discussed in last night's minor league recap thread
  15. Even if Granite were off the DL ... why would you send him? It would seem ... a wasteful use of a spot to me, but then, I don't know. I've been baffled by these decisions in the past, so maybe I'm a little 'unclear' the purpose of who goes to the AFL or not.
  16. Yeah, that whole Chattanooga lineup just didn't do anything! What a bunch of slackers!
  17. I’m sorry, but comparing what Rodney does, post save, to a 21-gun salute every morning is way off the mark as far as comparison’s go. Talk about over exaggerations. Players do all manner of things after they win, hit a home run, cross the plate to score ... what Rodney does after a save is no different than what any other players do. I appreciate that you and others didn’t like it, but I’d be careful about insinuating he was lying about it.
  18. Thad Levine talked about Stewart on Doogie’s show and mentioned his improvement this past year, saying that not getting added to the 40-man and then going unselected really lit a fire under him, not that he hasn’t worked hard, but he really did this past year.
  19. Ha! I’d have paid good money to see that, and, he’d probably have a following who’d crow in the stands after every save to go along with it!
  20. I guess we’ll disagree on that ... I think the motivation does matter. Many do repetitive things for different reasons. I guess I don’t consider honoring a close family member as showboating, but whatever. He’s not ours anymore.
  21. I know this has been discussed before, but I don’t consider honoring his grandfather as showboating. That said, he wasn’t my least favorite Twin, but I could barely watch when he came in to pitch.
  22. I’ll be in the neighborhood but unable to attend.
