Article: Is Alex Kirilloff Expendable?
sftwinsfan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Doesn't sound like the Mets think they match up as well with the Twins as some other teams. Would still be possible to get a deal done, but I'm guessing it would start with one of Lewis/Kirilloff + one of Graterol/Balazovic + a 3rd piece maybe Jeffers/Enlow type level. For a team such as the Mets that seem to want to compete soon/prefer close to major league talent they may have to overpay since their prospects are a little further out.- 31 replies

Time will tell on this trade, I don't mind Romo as a 2nd or 3rd piece to add to the bullpen. He brings a veteran presence that could help the bullpen and is hopefully an upgrade over Parker. I think people undervalue Diaz, he really only had the one bad year last year. He continued crushing the ball in AA and reportedly was above average on defense. He's hitting for average and power without striking out a ton. Twins could come to really regret this in a year or two with 1B and DH openings likely in 2021. On the other hand getting Villamont evens things up a bit and is an interesting arm and if he turns out this could be a win.

Article: Byron Buxton's Not So Secret Value
sftwinsfan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The concussion history is worrisome, especially with his propensity to run into walls. They are a much better team with him out there both on offense and defense. Hopefully they can keep him on the field often enough to take advantage of his talents. -
Glad they came back and got the W. I was this close to switching to Dish or Sling so I couldn't watch this stuff anymore.

They missed a golden opportunity to bury Cleveland today. I think a sweep on their home field coming out of the break and they would have folded not too long afterwards. Still a good series, but the fight for the division goes on. With all the talk of Berrios being an ace it would be nice if he pitched like one once in awhile. He's overall a solid starter, I just don't think he's reached the level so many people place him at.

Surprised Rortvedt slips 2 spots since the pre-season ranking despite having his best year so far. Being drafted out of high school from Wisconsin its impressive that he's in AA at 21 years old. More impressive is that he's actually holding his own with the bat. I think there's a good chance he's Garver's backup by 2021 if he's still in the sytem.

Midseason 2019 Minnesota Twins Top 15 Prospects
sftwinsfan commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
Always fun to read these lists. If I had to pick a top 10 based off my own limited knowledge I'd probably go with 1-Lewis 2-Kirilloff 3-Graterol 4-Larnach 5-Balazovic 6-Cavaco 7-Javier 8-Duran 9-Rooker 10-Enlow. Sad we'll have to delete a few guys soon due to the urgent need for relief pitchers. The way its looking it's going to need to be more than one guy they have to acquire.- 16 comments

Based on the draft I'm preemptively awarding the Appy League champtionship to E-town. Seems like they win most of the time anyways, guess they wanted to make sure this year.

This is the range where Falvey and Levine seem to like to reach, doubt anyone saw Landon Leach and Ryan Jeffers coming. Anyone know where Leach is nowdays? Hope he's not heading for a 3rd season of short-season ball.- 192 replies

See they went with the money saving route again. Has some talent, will come down to their development. Hope they save a little on the signing to grab a high school kid sliding later.- 192 replies

Article: TEX 7, MIN 4: Is Jose OK?
sftwinsfan replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I still think he needs that change-up or other 3rd option to be at least average and throw it more than 10% of the time, otherwise hitters won't pay any attention to it and just sit on either the fastball or the curve.- 23 replies

Article: TEX 7, MIN 4: Is Jose OK?
sftwinsfan replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Am I the only person concerned that Berrios only has 2 pitches? Fastball and breaking ball 91% of the time. If one pitch is a little off on a given night a hitter can sit on the other. He's got outstanding stuff, but in my opinion he won't dominate over the long-term until he has a reliable 3rd pitch.- 23 replies

Article: Hardball, the Twins, and Byron Buxton
sftwinsfan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sadly he'd probably get a solid amount of at-bats in September against the same AAA-level pitching. Of the 28 games on the schedule only 9 are against teams that are still in the race and aren't going to lose 90+ games this year. Combine that with expanded rosters, the level of pitching they're facing on average isn't going to be great. It's been an ugly year, I'd just let him start the offseason early. -
You can put me in the group, misguided as it may be, that thinks Kepler has more to offer than a league average player. Not that that's a bad thing as some prospects don't turn into anything. But, he was the Southern League Player of the Year in 2015 at age 22 and a top 100 prospect. With his swing and approach I think there's more there. Frustrating to watch are the seemingly long stretches where offensively he drops into a black hole. He's still only 25 and has some significant time in at the big league level, so I could see it clicking at a certain point. I don't think it's crazy to see a reachable ceiling of .260-.280 20-25HR seasons with plus defense.

Obviously it should be incomplete at this point, but if I had to give a grade I'd go with a straight C. Their first draft is looking pretty good right now, but still very early. This year's draft too early to tell. I like they've been a little more aggressive in free agency, although it didn't pan out. They've put some resources into the organization which will hopefully produce some results down the road. On the negative side, their skills at identifying talent seem to be overstated as they've let some players go (JT Chargois, Derek Rodriguez) that wouldn't look too bad right now on the roster. I really didn't like selling the draft pick to San Diego. Nearly 2 minor league seasons in and player development still seems to be lacking, especially the pitchers don't seem at all prepared to pitch at the MLB level. Also I'd rather give some younger relief pitchers a shot that are sitting in AAA than some of the guys they've picked up off the scrap heap.
