  1. Nobody seems concerned that maybe we get the Homer Bailey of the prior 2 years that was 7-23 with an ERA over 6. I hope we get last year's results, but who knows. As for the Wes Johson Kool-aid everyone seems to be on, he has been here 1 year with mixed results. I like the guy, but people have him just turning around pitchers right and left and finding velocity. A couple guys had success, but what happened with Berrios? Guy turned into a complete disaster mid-season. Perez turned back into a disaster. I'm going to need to see a lot more going forward to say Wes Johnson is the pitching messiah.
  2. I'm guessing he's a pretty guy to have in the bullpen that could teach the young guys a thing or two. I still would have liked to see them add one better bullpen piece as well though.
  3. What drives me crazy about this front office is the apparent lack of urgency. They screwed up when they put themselves in a position going into the offseason with only 1 returning starting pitcher. Now they're sitting at 2 and seemingly letting the market play out. According to Darren Wolfson's twitter as of yesterday they hadn't even met with a free agent in person yet. While they had interest in Josh Donaldson they had not yet spoken directly to him. It kind of seems like the trade deadline all over again. They seem to sit back and wait for things to play out and get left in the dust. I'm kind of imagining an agent speaking to his client saying Chicago is at 4/$60M, Angels are at 4/$55M. Player asks what about Minnesota, heard they were interested. Agent replies well, umm, Minnesota liked your Facebook page and they sent a text with a winking emoji earlier this morning, so yeah take that for what its worth.
  4. Agree that acquiring starting pitching via trade is probably their most likely scenario. Seems pretty difficult to pick up up to three starters via free agency with any success. I haven't seen anything that gives me any confidence in internal options. Smeltzer, Dobnak, and Thorpe look like back of the rotation options at best. Graterol isn't ready.
  5. They're just not a very good team, they're good at hitting-but that's where it stops. Poor starting pitching, poor relief pitching, poor defense. The last 2 months they are a .500 team, that's more than just a poor stretch. The only reason they're even a .500 team is because of that offense. It's been fun to watch outside of the many horrible endings lately, better than I was expecting going into the year, but I don't see them having much shot if they make the post-season unless they get miraculously hot in October. Could happen, just like the Vikings could win the Superbowl this year-so I'll watch-just not likely.
  6. Solid trade, added a solid veteran and didn't give up any top prospects to get him. Jaylin Davis is having a big year, but wasn't a top prospect and was blocked at the MLB level. Prelander Berroa and Kai-Wei Teng are basically lotto tickets-good young arms but a long ways off.
  7. Doesn't sound like the Mets think they match up as well with the Twins as some other teams. Would still be possible to get a deal done, but I'm guessing it would start with one of Lewis/Kirilloff + one of Graterol/Balazovic + a 3rd piece maybe Jeffers/Enlow type level. For a team such as the Mets that seem to want to compete soon/prefer close to major league talent they may have to overpay since their prospects are a little further out.
  8. Time will tell on this trade, I don't mind Romo as a 2nd or 3rd piece to add to the bullpen. He brings a veteran presence that could help the bullpen and is hopefully an upgrade over Parker. I think people undervalue Diaz, he really only had the one bad year last year. He continued crushing the ball in AA and reportedly was above average on defense. He's hitting for average and power without striking out a ton. Twins could come to really regret this in a year or two with 1B and DH openings likely in 2021. On the other hand getting Villamont evens things up a bit and is an interesting arm and if he turns out this could be a win.
  9. The concussion history is worrisome, especially with his propensity to run into walls. They are a much better team with him out there both on offense and defense. Hopefully they can keep him on the field often enough to take advantage of his talents.
  10. Glad they came back and got the W. I was this close to switching to Dish or Sling so I couldn't watch this stuff anymore.
  11. They missed a golden opportunity to bury Cleveland today. I think a sweep on their home field coming out of the break and they would have folded not too long afterwards. Still a good series, but the fight for the division goes on. With all the talk of Berrios being an ace it would be nice if he pitched like one once in awhile. He's overall a solid starter, I just don't think he's reached the level so many people place him at.
  12. I'm going to have to pass. I see Brian Duensing is available and also 36
  13. Surprised Rortvedt slips 2 spots since the pre-season ranking despite having his best year so far. Being drafted out of high school from Wisconsin its impressive that he's in AA at 21 years old. More impressive is that he's actually holding his own with the bat. I think there's a good chance he's Garver's backup by 2021 if he's still in the sytem.
  14. Landon Leach heading for a 3rd year in the GCL? Guy is going to be Rule V eligible before he gets to Cedar Rapids.
  15. Balazovic finally showed he was human, although 3 of the 4 runs he gave up were due to Giancarlo Stanton homeruns so he seems to have pitched better than the numbers indicate. Nice test for him to give him something to improve upon.
  16. Always fun to read these lists. If I had to pick a top 10 based off my own limited knowledge I'd probably go with 1-Lewis 2-Kirilloff 3-Graterol 4-Larnach 5-Balazovic 6-Cavaco 7-Javier 8-Duran 9-Rooker 10-Enlow. Sad we'll have to delete a few guys soon due to the urgent need for relief pitchers. The way its looking it's going to need to be more than one guy they have to acquire.
  17. Based on the draft I'm preemptively awarding the Appy League champtionship to E-town. Seems like they win most of the time anyways, guess they wanted to make sure this year.
  18. Minor-league season keeps getting uglier, just read Kirilloff is back on the IL. Not sure for what.
  19. Maybe Wallner and Rooker can combine for 400k's for the 2021 Red Wings team.
  20. Makes me a little nervous when they start out with wow
  21. This is the range where Falvey and Levine seem to like to reach, doubt anyone saw Landon Leach and Ryan Jeffers coming. Anyone know where Leach is nowdays? Hope he's not heading for a 3rd season of short-season ball.
  22. We'll see if Arizona jumps on Allan, they definitely have the draft pool to take a guy like that here.
  23. Pirates always get the pitchers I like, would have been ok with Priester.
  24. See they went with the money saving route again. Has some talent, will come down to their development. Hope they save a little on the signing to grab a high school kid sliding later.
