  1. Obviously endurance is important for starting pitchers but what works for one pitcher might not work for another. And there is a difference in the amount of potential endurance in one player than in another. I would hope the Twins can work well with all their starters to maximize each individual pitcher's endurance.
  2. I remember when Torii Hunter came up for good after his last stint in the minors in 2000. He had finally overcome his tentativeness at the plate and began to hit like a major leaguer. I hope we're seeing the same thing with Aaron Hicks.
  3. I'm quite certain that Stauffer will get the benefit of the doubt because of his contract and be given another chance to show that he can be part of the major league bullpen, probably primarily in long relief. I hope he does really well, but I also hope they don't stick with him too long if he doesn't.
  4. I'm sure the beer was more likely saved than her life. But that's still a worthwhile save.
  5. I think I believe that the players currently disabled do indeed have injuries, but I notice that the players performing least well seem to be the ones who have wound up on the DL. I suppose their poor performances could be because of injuries, but the coincidence just seems curious.
  6. I believe DL time is always retroactive to the last time the player was in a game. I think I believe that the players currently disabled do indeed have injuries, but I notice that the players performing least well seem to be the ones who have wound up on the DL. I suppose their poor performances could be because of injuries, but the coincidence just seems curious.
  7. Maybe Grande Prairie, Alberta.
  8. So do we bring Perkins in for the 8th? (Just trying to start a kerfuffle.)
  9. Don't know what a hugg is but a hug I can do.
  10. Same for me, only more so.
  11. Did you misspell dyslexia on purpose to be funny?
  12. C'mon, Dick Bremer...he said that Molitor's 39-game hitting streak in 1987 was the longest since DiMaggio's. Guess he forgot about Pete rose's 44-gamer in 1978.
  13. Opposing pitchers should know this: Never, ever throw a high fastball to Dozier, unless you are absolutely sure you can get away with it. And then don't do it.
  14. It's too bad Tom Kelly's health issues preclude him from taking any of the TV analyst shifts he had done the past few years. I know there are people who can't stand his admittedly dry delivery but his insight is second to none. I'm old enough to remember when another former manager, Frank Quilici, had the Twins radio gig with Herb Carneal, and that was probably the best radio twosome the Twins will ever have. Quilici used to correctly predict moves the managers would make.
  15. Gardenhire used to bat Redmond third on Mauer's days off for that reason. Drove me nuts.
  16. What new blood is that? We need names and reasons why.
  17. You make the majors when you're ready. Going to college may slow one's development a little but even those who hit the minors straight out of high school rarely debut at age 21 as Arcia did. There's no way to know for sure but I doubt that going to college made a big difference in Dozier's debut age.
  18. Another point to be made is that extra inning games on the road are different from home games. There is no save opportunity at home if you are behind or tied after 8 innings. As a manager you'll be much more likely to go to your closer earlier at home than on the road.
  19. You can cite all the stats you want but with relievers a lot of it is who you think has a chance to do well that day, and there are a lot of intangibles there. Plus I think Molitor was asking himself who would close if he played his Perkins card early. Normally that would be Fien. I'd like those who advocated pitching Perkins in the 8th, 9th or 10th last night to say what their plans would have been if a closer was needed.
  20. I wish we had as many highly-regarded pitching prospects as we do position-player prospects. I want to be able to feel like next year's rotation will be an improvement over this year's before I use the term turnaround. And to me that means at least two good pitchers who are not in the current rotation.
  21. He is barely 24 years old. David Ortiz can serve as an example of what can happen if you give up on someone too soon. Ortiz was 27 when the Twins and every other team except the Red Sox gave up on him. At this stage I'd have to get a very solid pitcher in return to give up Arcia in a trade.
  22. "The hope is no doubt that an outfield of Oswaldo Arcia, Byron Buxton and Aaron Hicks would be the configuration for many years to come. Adding Eddie Rosario as a fourth option would only further the talent that the Twins could employ out of the gate next season." Hicks' cannon in RF will make runners think twice about trying to advance to third base. All he has to do is find a way to hit at least .250. Arcia's defensive deficiencies in LF are not a big issue if he can hit 30+ dingers a year. Rosario would be an excellent fourth OF and, we hope, a satisfactory back-up 2B. And I hear that the other guy is a natural-born CF. If this comes to fruition no team will have a better outfield.
  23. All I have to say is give it up. Mauer would catch only if both catchers and Escobar were injured during the course of a game, and only for that game until we get a replacement from AAA. As for moving him to LF and installing Vargas as the regular 1B, I have no doubt that Molitor and his coaching staff are intelligent enough to have thought of that. I'm sure that would have been done if it were the best thing to do.
