  1. Not sure I buy this premise or I would be the biggest conservative you ever met. Where's my purell?
  2. I don't have a great solution. I encourage them to at least read/watch other sources once in a while in hopes they will break out of the echo chamber. I also try to do the same. I don't generally engage beyond that for the sake of keeping the peace. But most of them still pretty much believe Trump is a God-appointed savior of our country and Hillary one of the worst political criminals of our time. I see a few cracks in the wall once in a while but I don't think anything fully changes that.
  3. Setting aside the fact the impracticality of splitting into separate counties, we are fooling ourselves wif we think this is a north vs. south issue. I'm guessing we all have friends/relatives in MN, ND, SD etc. that share these exact same views. Lots of them.
  4. And as far as his OPS, his breathtaking ability to draw a walk with a runner on 3rd and one out is appreciated and all, but it's over-rated.
  5. I've seen a lot of tweets/articles from alleged "never-Trump" R's who claim they weren't sure if they were going to vote they are so apathetic about him. But now they are SO MAD about what the evil left did to Kavanaugh that they will crawl through broken glass to vote R. I don't buy it. Almost all of them were always going to vote R. They will just feel extra righteously indignant about it now.
  6. It was on Twitter too, but I don't think anyone realized the sure magnitude of it until it was long over.
  7. Yes. But think of the poor media having to be in the clubhouse for his....walk throughs.
  8. If we non-tender Odorizzi, can we make him an offer afterwards just like every other team? IIRC it used to be that you couldn't re-sign your own free agents that you non-tendered until May 1st. Or at least they couldn't play until then. Not sure if that rule still exists.
  9. I don't want Grossman back at any price. He's a bad defender and has no power. When he was hitting over .300 the second half he was tolerable, but we all know he's not doing that for a full season. I would also pass on Odorizzi at that price. I'm guessing he gets more like $5m as free agent.
  10. At the rate he's going, we don't have to worry about trading him for pennies on the dollar, he'll just be released.
  11. He was only going to catch one pitch. The batter agreed not to swing at it and they promised it would be a ball. He was never going to risk taking a foul ball of the mask.
  12. Why would you when you can pay someone else to do it. At $150,000 per pull.
  13. Someone remind me again of his "issues"? I don't see the Pohlad's signing off on that. If there's one thing the Twins have avoided the last 35 years, it's negative off-field issues for the most part.
  14. I'd say TK, but I'm pretty sure he'd take Falvey's analytics report and shove it somewhere inappropriate.
  15. Ah. That shows how vital his role was. I believe he was in charge of designing the new facility in Fort Meyers. He must have left when that was done.
  16. The last true player manager IIRC was Pete Rose. He was too busy gambling on the game to option himself. But seriously, Mauer has options left. However, I think that goes away after so many years. Su unless we are going to pay him $23 million, he'd have to clear waivers each time. And I think there are rules requiring you to report. If you were really going to game it, you'd just DL him with some injury each time he wasn't going to play for awhile.
  17. That didn't stop Brad Childress from coaching the Vikings.
  18. The Twins are the king of offering people they fire another role. Bill Smith is the only one I know who took it. I think he might even still be in that role?
  19. Thanks for a great career Joe. It's been fun following you since high school. We'll never see another career quite like it again.
  20. Yep. They have $50 + million to spend. They should be able to make some real moves that generate excitement for next season. If they don't, it's on them and the clock will be ticking.
  21. Nothing to do with that. The Indy Star is a bigger/better paper than the PP.
  22. They can and should contend in 2019. They have $50-60 million to spend. -I would trade for a catcher, probably the guy from the Marlins. Will a package built around Nick Gordon get it done? Maybe Gordon and Gonsalves? -Re-sign Escobar to play 2nd (or 3rd). 3/$45m with an options should get it done. -Sign Adam Jones. 3/$45 seems reasonable here too. This would make Kepler/Buxton earn their spot. -Re-sign Mauer. 1/$5 million. Platoon at 1B with Austin. If Mauer retires, Kepler to 1B is an option. -Sign Kimbrel to close. At the risk of redundancy this might take 3/$45 range as well. This makes me slightly nervous but you have to do what you have to do. -Non-tender Odorizzi. Sign someone else on a 1-2 year deal. Gio Gonzalez? Sabathia? JA Happ (might be a stretch). Total payroll: ~$125 million Line-up: 1. Polanco-SS 2. Jones-LF 3. Rosario-RF 4. Sano-3B 5. Escboar-2B 6. Realmuto-C 7. Kepler-DH. (Assume Rosario, Jones, Kepler, Austin, Sano all rotate through) 8. Mauer/Austin-1B 9. Buxton-CF Bench: Garver (assuming we eat most of Castro's salary and trade him either to Marlins or elsewhere.) Adrianza Austin Cave Rotation: Berrios Gibson Gonzlez/Sabathia Two of: Romero Pineda Mejia Sleggers Stewart Bullpen: Kimbrell Hildy Rogers May Buesintiz Moya Reed
  23. Great offense. Ervin Santana is cooked. Done. DL or release him. :Liriano is also cooked. Done. Do the same Gardy.
  24. You're not going to get anything great for him. How many lottery tickets do we need? I would rather evaluate if he's a fall-back option for 2019. He certainly loves hitting at Target Field for some reason.
