  1. I understand what you're saying and I disagree. It would seem the FO doesn't agree with you or they wouldn't make these offers and stay engaged on these players for days and weeks on end if they knew they had zero chance of signing them.
  2. I've read that (obviously he isn't signed yet). I've also read we offered 4/$90 and haven't budged. I'm not sure which is true, but I know which one is more likely based on history.
  3. I wouldn't hold my breath. Along with negotiating with FA's, clear communication does not appear to be Falvey's strength. Perhaps the issues are related. For example, letting Molitor find out Eddie Escobar was traded by watching MLB network. We've gotten "gee I wish I hadn't said "impact" pitching". I think that's as close to an explanation/apology as we're going to get.
  4. If, even once, the Twins tested your theory and offered him $10 million more than the next team, you'd have a point. Instead they offer $4/80 when the top offer is 4/$100 and you tell us we could never sign him anyway, so it's OK if they don't raise their offer. Why are they wasting their time then? Why stay "in" on him for weeks on end? Why offer Wheeler $100 million? Why engage on Ryu at all?
  5. FWIW, Iglesias and Thames have come off the board today, so the plan D options are also dwindling fast.
  6. In the case of the Twins, there's no one else to bring up, because we've signed no FA's to long contracts in years. That doesn't change the fact that MadBaum is the only one known to have left $$ on the table this off-season. The Twins didn't make the top bid for anyone and get turned down for other reasons. Period.
  7. That's not comforting. It's quite aggravating. It only reiterates that indeed there is a huge window open now. Both in the AL Central and the AL overall. Yes, we would still be underdogs to the Yankees, even with another starter. But let's give ourselves a fighting chance to avoid them in the 1st round and at least have a shot if we do face them.
  8. There's no silver lining to the Pohlad's pocketing $30 million we should have spent on the 2020 payroll. Will they add it to the 2021 payroll? No. Certainly not $ for $. This is pretty desperate spin.
  9. Both Cruz and Lynn have earned tens of millions of dollars in their careers. Why come here to our frozen tundra when they could have gone elsewhere for only a couple million less? Why not go to Houston where it's warm and there's a better shot at a WS? Not a single player has turned down an extra $10-20 million. Certainly not from the Twins. But not from anyone else either. MadBaum's the only one who turned down more $, and it wasn't from us.
  10. Ah yes. 2023. When Rosario, Buxton, Sano and Berrios won't be here anymore. That's the year to shoot for! Thank God Terry Ryan was at the winter meetings with Falvine to drive this point home to them.
  11. Give them Rosario and Larnach instead of Kepler and I'd do it.
  12. Who said we should sign all 5? Now you're just making things up. We have a payroll of $110 million. We should have a payroll of $140-150 million. We desperately need one more top-end starting pitcher. All any of us asked is that we sign ONE of them. Signing Donaldson doesn't address the issue, but would make our offense lethal and perhaps make us more willing to make a trade for one. As it is the Twins are going to pocket the $30 million they said they would spend on impact pitching and do nothing. That benefits no one who's not a Pohlad heir.
  13. Why did Nelson Cruz sign here? He could have taken a couple million less and gone to Houston? Why did Gonzalez? Why did Lance Lynn? All of them signed here because we made the best offer. MOST of the time, FA's will go where the best offer is. Occasionally there is an exception. You're claiming the exception applies in every case when we have not made the best offer to ANY of the top FA's this off-season. Yes, I believe all things equal, Donaldson wants to stay in Atlanta. He's also played for a lot of teams, and if we top Atlanta's offer by $10-15 million in total, he'll be a Twin. But we won't. And maybe we shouldn't. But the same cannot be said for Ryu, Kuechel, etc.
  14. Yes. And I'm shocked he was willing to come here and put his family through the hell that is MN.
  15. At this point, I'd be happy with trading for Price, eating $25/15/15 of his contract and signing a 2B (Gennett or Doz) and moving Arreaz to 3B. It doesn't improve the D that much, but it's better than using Gonzalez at 3B. Especially when he'll be needed in the OF once Buxton gets hurt.
  16. What SS's are available though? Iglesias doesn't excite me.
  17. First, the narrative was he wouldn't leave the west coast. Then he goes to Toronto and you're telling us this spin job. He went where he got the most money. What would it have taken? A better offer than Toronto, which we never made. There is no evidence we were the highest bidder on any FA we missed on and got turned down because they didn't want to play in MN. If our offers are less, of course no one will sign here. And if they're equal they probably won't either. If you want to play in FA, you have to overpay.
  18. Falvine treated FA like a garbage sale instead of an auction sale. And all they went home with is the misc box of junk they sell at the end and half their $ still in their pockets. Complete failure.
  19. Stop with this excuse. Donaldson's camp flat out said they will sign with whoever meets their #. Our offer isn't close and we're not willing to raise it. Again. The only player who probably truly wouldn't play in MN is MadBaum.
  20. They could easily have signed Ryu or Kuchel. Instead we're going into the season with a joke of a rotation and a payroll of $110 million, $20 million less than two years ago and the same as it was 10 freaking years ago. It's embarrassing and unacceptable. Huge failure by Falvey and Levine. Fresh off their huge failure at the trade deadline.
  21. I'm reluctant too. But we either sign someone we have reservations about, or we sit here with a payroll $30 million under budget. Adding a 5th year which requires 600 PA's isn't much additional risk. If he's healthy and good enough to get 600 PA's in year 4, bring on year 5.
  22. The Twins need to go on offense with Donaldson. Add a 5th year option if he gets to 600 PA's in year 4. Tell him he has 24 hours to accept. The Braves are sniffing around a trade with Colorado and we should not allow ourselves to be held hostage while they do.
  23. I seriously doubt there will be a trade coming. But if there is, it makes sense to do the signing first. They might not be so eager to sign if we just traded for Price/Gray/Archer etc. Especially Hill.
  24. I can be OK with this if we either sign Donaldson or trade for Price. Otherwise, we're $20 million under budget dumpster diving like we never left the Dome.
  25. OK. Get your frustration and sarcasm out of the way today. Tomorrow: Why Bailey is actually better than MadBaum and Hill is better than Kuechel!
