  1. I don't have a problem with 3 years and a 4th option or 4 at most. The $ is not an issue for 2014 and probably not for 2015. But buy 2017/18 it could be. As long as they can stay out of those years, go for it.
  2. I don't like moving Arcia to LF, but Seth's right the over-reaction here is just as over-the-top as the universal love elsewhere. The truth is somewhere in the middle. It's one year of an over-paid aging outfielder. It's not what will determine the Twins fate in 2015 much less long-term. It's really not that big of a deal.
  3. I don't have a huge issue with it, as long as he only plays 80-90 games mostly against lefties. $10.5 million is too much for a part-time player, but I'm not a Pohlad heir, so I don't give a $%^. My only fear is that at that price, they'll stubbornly run him out there 150 times. If Gardy was still here it would be a certainty. I hope Mollie knows better.
  4. Eew. No. Just no.
  5. Unless the $ is much higher than expected, I like this. Sign this guy and Anderson. Pencil in Hughes, Gibson and Nolasco and let Yang, Anderson, Meyer, May and Milone battle for the other two spots and a one in the bullpen.
  6. It probably makes most sense to deal a Pinto or Rosario as the central piece in a trade for a starter with at least 2 years of control. If not, I'd rather roll the dice on someone like Masterson than spend the $ and years on Shields. I disagree that they don't need to sign anyone. Hughes, Masterson, Nolasco and Gibson still allows one of May or Meyer to be in the rotation. I see no reason Milone or Pelfrey should be guaranteed anything. Milione can be in the BP and we should probably just cut bait with Pelfrey.
  7. Meh. Not horrible, but pretty pointless. I still prefer the traditional pinstripes or the throw-back '60's version. If they win in these, we'll all grow to love them. I remember when the Denver Broncos swapped out the orange crush uniforms and 'D' helmets for the current version. Everyone hated them. Two Super Bowl's later it was no issue.
  8. Personally, Luvello was more intriguing, but I'm OK with this. Molitor has as good a chance to succeed as anyone and it makes sense on multiple fronts.
  9. If this is true, I'm disgusted with Jim Pohlad, disgusted with Dave St. Peter for having no balls to stand up to Jim Pohlad and disgusted with Terry Ryan for lying and having no balls to stand up to Jim Pohlad. And if either of them did, he'd back down. Dysfunction all the way down.
  10. This. It doesn't have to be Buehrle, but the idea that we don't need to bring in a high level starter after two straight years with the worst rotation in baseball because of Tommy Milone, etc. is ridiculous
  11. If they can get him for a minor prospect, do it. Especially if the Jays will pick up some $$. I'm not worried about blocking Meyer or May. They'll get their chance. Pelfrey can be released. Milone can in the BP. Meyer and May compete for #5. The other is 1st man up in Rochester.
  12. If he doesn't want to come here, fine. But $$ should not be the issue. $5 million? Great. $8 million? OK. Even $10 million. What player could they sign for these amounts that would do more on the field or with the fans than Maddon would?
  13. This is where we need an aggressive GM, which I fear TR is not. Yes the 'budget' will be ~$85 million. But if needs to go to $95 million to get a James Shields, the Pohlads will not say no. But only if the GM is willing to make his case.
  14. Terry Ryan should be out for a few reasons. Not the least of which is Bill Smith was his hand-picked successor. Yes, he made the mess, but he was the guy Terry groomed to take his place. Further, I refuse to believe the major moves made under Smith (Garza trade, Hardy trade, Nishi signing, etc.) were not run by 'consultant' Terry Ryan before the trigger was pulled.
  15. The Twins are stubborn, but I don't think Dave St. Peter and Jim Pohlad are morons. Either TR or Gardy must go. Preferably both. I predict TR retires and Gardy either accepts another position with the organization or quits.
  16. They definitely need to add a starter: If they're willing to spend: Shields, Liriano, Santana, Gallardo, McCarthy Cheap(er) make good options: Edinson Volquez, Justin Masterson, Jake Peavy, AJ Burnett Cheap make good options: Brett Anderson, Gavin Floyd, Josh Johnson Of these, I'm most intrigued by Volquez and Masterson. Masterson could be a 2015 Phil Hughes, IMO. I'd probably add Colby Rasmus and Masterson. Adding both should still leave payroll under $100 million.
  17. In order of preference: -Span: There's no way the Nats won't pick up his option and the comment he just made makes it clear we wouldn't be very high in his list if he does hit FA. -Rasmus: Is 2/$18 or 3/$24 enough? If so, I'd do that. Anything more is iffy. -Mauer: Given the other options, he wouldn't be any worse defensively and would free up the 1B for Vargas and DH for Pinto. But we know it won't happen. -Hunter: I don't buy any defensive metrics that say he's worse than Willingham. 1/$8 should get it done. It's easy to roll our eyes at the 'leadership' angle after the Bartlett BS. But it's far more real here and can't be ignored. -Cuddyer: If Hunter's that bad, how much worse could Cuddy be? Though Mauer in LF and Cuddy at 1B/DH would make more sense. Leadership: See Hunter x 2.
  18. A blown save or two in a lost season, OK. This is now concerning...
  19. Is there any chance that Nolasco is so humiliated by his play he'll quit and go back to Japan?
  20. Kind of odd to just give him away. Is he Arbitration eligible next year? If so, it makes more sense.
  21. The only remotely intriguing FA's are Torii and Ichiro. Neither should play every day anymore, though Hunter probably can. There may be some trade options. They should gladly take a bloated contract if that's what it takes.
  22. http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Terry_Ryan_not_interested_in_trying_new_positions_for_Vargas_or_Mauer082114 Discouraging to hear this. Pinto getting time at DH with Vargas as 1B and Mauer with at least some time in LF is the best option for 2015. If they're not going to do this, Pinto may as well be traded....
  23. No. Just no. The most you would get is a couple prospects, one of whom might one day be as good as Brian Dozier.
  24. Glad he's 'OK' considering. It really does feel like the Twins are snake-bitten. However, you have to wonder if some of this is him just being a fearless/reckless type player on defense. Hopefully he can learn where the line is between playing all out and being foolish.
  25. And that kids...is how Yohan Pino's Major League career ended....
