  1. PS- God, I hate losing to those guys.
  2. So that happened. Hats off to Samardzija. But come on. 4 pitches to the fearsome David Beckham. Sheesh. Well, at least there's rugby on soon.
  3. and now-- Mike "Gulfa" Tonkin. Come on, young man, shut em down.
  4. Yep. 4 pitch walk to Gordon Beckham. Not delighted in the least.
  5. Yipe- Smardzija is throwing seeds. That gameday pitch sequence to Mauer.... oi, vey. Pure nastiness.
  6. A bit disturbing, too, this recent trend of some early runs, then nothing. Although- who cannot be in favor of early runs, it's as though, 'my work here is done, and I can rely on my vaunted bullpen to hold this lead.' I don't think our 2 in the first is enough today. Especially since it's now tied.... (is that last bit a CBU?)
  7. uh-oh- step away for a few moments, and it looks like Hughes is Pelf-ing.
  8. Heh... I saw your post when I was over there trolling. It's almost as good as listening to Hawk whine to read the fatalistic comments over there.
  9. Heh-- I just noticed your logo-name. Braziiiiiiiiiiil.... Now I've got that song in my head all day. Well, could surely be a worse one.
  10. Yikes. Confidence in ANYONE from our bullpen, outside of Perk- 0. They always scare me, every one of 'em.
  11. I heard that, long ago. I also heard Pete Rose.
  12. To follow up on Pelf's hot hitting- my old Mel Stottlemyre baseball card says he went 5-5 one time. I had to look it up- September 26, 1964, against the Senators. Go Pelf-- go get him! Addendum- He also tossed a 2-hitter that day. Good day at the office.
  13. Just getting in from early meeting at work- Whaaaaa? Pelf is 2-2? Go, Big Mikey!
  14. In a lot of ways, I'm glad there was no digital world back then. My confirmation day maroon slacks and white shoes/belt combo would be there for all to see, instead of just seared into my memory like a red-hot branding iron with the bad-guy cattle-baron's logo on it. And the shirt- we won't talk about the shirt.
  15. Yah, by golly, I don't see dem Gophers dere. Maybe next year, you betcha.
  16. ahhh, Perk. Thanks, just in time for class. I'll have my chicken dinnah at lunch time, thx.
  17. Man, even some of those outs are loud.
  18. Haw haw haw--- caught Pirates feed- whoever's the color man is crying- 'we've gotta stop scoring only one at a time. If we keep scoring one, we'll come up a run short!' Must have been a math major, I guess. I nearly got a snot bubble over that one.
  19. Argh, busy morning, just got a moment to check on the game. Yikes. They seem to be trying awfully hard to blow that big lead, but the Pirates won't cooperate. In a hurry, at least. Nice to see both ex-Twinkies in the same game, eh?
  20. I may be in the minority here, but Mr. Plouffe has never impressed me as an outstanding 3B. I know his metrics have improved markedly, but going from absolute suck to competent is kind of a low bar, donchya think? I've not the time nor inclination to analyze a ton of intense stats, but eyeball wise, I still see his positioning and first step, although greatly improved, as less than stellar. Granted, he's made plenty of highlight reel plays, but some of those I've seen needn't have been highlight-reel quality with better positioning. As for Mr. Sano, well, I'm old enough to remember a certain Idahoan holding down 3B in the late 60's-early 70's. And even as a little kid playing Pee Wee ball, I understood you sacrifice some defense for a load of offense at that position. I don't know what the fuss is about having Sano become an elite-level fielder as well as hoping for 40 HRs out of him annually. If he can play an adequate 3B, (as Mr. P is doing now), and slug the ball around, I'll live without a few Gold Gloves over there. As the old-timers used to say -oops, guess I am one, now-- the biggest thing you need to have at 3rd is a "strong chest." Yep. He's got that.
  21. OMG, it's well after game time and all, but I know that first one- because Repo Man spends his life getting into tense situations.
  22. Argh! Bollocks to day games! It's 1.30 AM over here-- BUT---- Just finished watching the USA win their FIRST EVER Rugby Sevens tournament title! Thrashing England in the semi, thrashing Australia in the final. That never happened before. Olympic sport in 2016, y'all- and US are defending Olympic rugby champions! (1924) Go Twinkies, by the way. Nighty-night.
  23. Dang. No Bernier. Again. Well, nothing to stay up for. It's 12.30 AM here, g'night, Twinkieland. Knock the stripes off 'em, lads. I hope they eat Anibel Sanchez alive today. Kind of like those meatballs.
  24. I'd have one, but already did for breakfast. ...uurrrp.
