    I hope they settle the redundancy concern soon. Though if the Twins want to be hip, now, with it and wow like the Rays, they probably shouldn't dedicate $5 million to a player who's not a big upgrade to who they have already making $550k.

    Every dollar counts with this small market team! Just ask Jim Pohlad, who doesn't FEEL like it's necessary to spend $23 million just because Mauer's contract is off the books.

    Same reason why we fear Scott Boras clients... Irrational feelings. I'm not going to trust people from Tampa coming off career seasons. There's probably a valid reason why they're letting him go for nothing... And why this is his 3rd team in 3 seasons.

    This is how you build a sustainable contender I guess... By continuing to swim in the shallow pool hoping you find a power hitter for $5 million.

    I echo others in being cautiously optimistic. Seems like the proper coaching staff is in place to help recoup the lost MPH on his fastball. If it's clear he doesn't have it they should be able to eat a portion of the money owed and move him to another rebuilding team.

    I'm watching Michigan vs. Ohio State today and boy is this a pleasure to watch compared to our Gophers.

    The Kirilloff pick looks really good right now. Still a long ways to go with him. I wish he got his feet wet in AA for the last month of the season. He was making a mockery of A ball. The real test will be mastering AA... If he's just as good after a few months I'll be beating the drum to call him up directly from AA.

    He's left handed, currently breathing, and a lot of teams are still tanking at the MLB level. I agree someone will take a flyer on him.

    Most mid-market teams like the Twins are profitable before they even step on the field because of everything you mentioned, plus revenue sharing from the big market teams. Ticket sales, concessions, and merchandise are the cherry on top of already absurd profits.

    Agreed. It also doesn't take into consideration the other $20+ million off the books as well releasing Morrison, Erv, Dozier, etc.

    6th overall pick in 2015 is not worthwhile to stash on the 40 man... What a shame.

    People in sports sure know how to spin the word 'rebuilding' into a positive these days... If they're not competing for a playoff spot, they're rebuilding. Evidently now the Twins are 'building' and the Gophers football team is in 'Year 1 of building.' So positive!

    Yeah I agree they are the powerhouse that won't go away. There's value in having your FB credentials integrate with tons of apps. Saves me the time from signing up and trying to remember what my login/password is for Candy Crush and stuff like that.

    One bargain bin SP I'm interested in is Matt Harvey. I wanted the Twins to pick him up when he was waived by the Mets and he had a good rebound stint in Cincinnati.

    Maybe firing the DC lit a fire under the players... Only gave up 88 rushing yards all game! I'm pretty sure Illinois had more rushing yards in their first 4 attempts last week.

    If there's one thing the Twins are consistently good at it's plugging in unknown players at closer successfully. I don't think they need to specifically sign someone for the 9th inning. But they do need 2-3 guys who can handle the high leverage situations in the 7-8th innings.

    I am still not a true believer in the strategy UNLESS it's used to help ease in a rookie pitcher. It looked like the strategy helped Kohl Stewart become comfortable under the big lights. There are a lot of questions that haven't been answered with this strategy... When do you graduate a pitcher from primary to a traditional SP? Are they just a primary pitcher forever?

    The landscape is changing across the US. Austin has doubled in size in the last 10 years. Same with Charlotte... I do agree with thrylos' other point that they need to figure out relocation first over expansion. The 2 Florida teams have no fan base and no player willing to sign there. Oakland has been playing in a dump for far too long.

Portland, Montreal, Charlotte. San Antonio was mentioned in the article and said combined with Austin they would have a major network. I can tell you this, very few, if any from Austin would make the drive. Traffic on 35 is an absolute nightmare.
