    I guess we're supposed to pretend Molitor wasn't blessed with immense talent, didn't know how to deal with pressure/expectations, nor has anything not gone according to plan.

    He's entering his age 26 season and these days people view players in their early 30s as undesirable used goods past their prime. The clock is ticking, not beginning. The league continues to get younger... We can't keep using this same excuse for every one of our players.

    It's not like the program is missing out on another great coach who will turn it around faster. Might as well play this out like every other coach.

    Some fans got sick of Molitor within the first 2 years... Managers are short term, hence what I want from a manager is going to be short term. 1. Fix Buxton and Sano. It is imperative for the organization to do so. 2. Help young players take the next step. Berrios is close to becoming a front line starter... Find someone who will help him make the leap. 3. Someone who can quickly identify what they have and makes quick decisions. Don't let someone toil as a fringe SP if they can be better utilized in the bullpen. 4. Find a way to be competitive immediately.

    It's definitely intriguing and worthy of discussion for sure. I know some want to throw out the baby with the bath water in regards to Buxton... I still believe he's going to get every opportunity to prove himself with the Twins next season. It's nice Kepler can fill in at CF if Buxton falls on his face again. However, I wouldn't let that stop me from exploring trade opportunities. Cave or someone else could fill in for 30-40 starts when Buxton is banged up.

    Ah, got it. We're not seriously expecting Kepler to play a bunch in CF are we?

    They don't have to only look internally for a replacement. There are several corner OFs available in free agency.

    Agreed. This is where the FO needs to make a judgment call. He still has 3 years of control left, which is valuable alone. If they keep him for 2019 and he remains a 95-96 OPS+ player his value is lower in November 2019 than it is right now. I'm not confident he'll take the next step at the plate, hence why I'm beating the drum to trade him with a package of prospects to acquire a difference maker.

    Didn't pay close attention to the game but the big TDs I saw them give up in the first half were filled with fundamental mistakes. Missing tackles and breakdowns in coverage happen far too often. Fleck will have to try out a new DC next season...

    I disagreed with your thought that we're stuck with him now or need to extend him. If he were on the trade block there will be interest from a few teams to acquire him.

    His low BABIP has been described here as bad luck. Eventually bad luck becomes the norm when he's had a low BABIP over 2+ seasons. Reminds me of the Nolasco conversations we had a few years ago where his FIP was always a run+ better than his ERA. Eventually we have to conclude this is who he is.

    Disagree. He still has 3 years of arbitration control left and now he's established himself as a good starting MLB player averaging 2 WAR a season. There's plenty of value in that...

    That's true. I don't know how he's going to remain a 2.8 fWAR player if Buxton plays 120+ games in CF. Or if he slides to 1B. That's going to require him putting it all together at the plate.

    I don't think it's any coincidence his value defensively skyrocketed because of Buxton's absence in CF. Expect to see a decline next season: especially so if he spends a good portion of his time at 1B. His offensive numbers as a whole hasn't changed, even when he's seen success against LH pitching. It's possible he puts it all together and hits RH like 2017 and LH like 2018... I'm not confidently predicting that though. That being said, I would seek a trade off of his career high fWAR season and 3 years of control left. The bat is average, plays above average RF and CF in a pinch. There's value in that and he should generate interest. Who knows, maybe him packaged with prospects could help the Twins acquire a difference maker.

    I'm sure Fleck and his coaches don't have mediocre expectations for the program. They're building a foundation for a good program. I don't know how you can expect them to be competitive in the Big 10 with 25 freshman, and lots of them getting significant playing time.

    Good post. His schtick appeals to the generation Zs and not us. Clearly the kids are buying in and growing into young adults.

    I think the most important thing in college football is allowing kids to participate in the activity they love and someone, whether it's the coaches, teammates, professors, etc. help them develop in all phases of life. Very few make it to the next level of football... The vast majority move on with their life.

    This team is not set anywhere in the bullpen. I hope Rogers keeps it up but his numbers are great because he was lights out in the 2nd half. In the 1st half he had a pedestrian 3.86 ERA and if we see 1st half Rogers we're no where near set for LH relievers. They need 2 relievers who can be fireman types, and another 1-2 bargain bin relievers.

    Well, they did better than I thought they would. Kept it close until the 4th quarter.

    Agreed, we seem to have the same viewpoint of managers. Honestly I don't care all that much about Molitor being fired. There's certainly an expiration date for all managers delivering the same message year after year. I do find it ironic that he was blamed for various things this season such as: - Wearing out bullpen arms - Not developing players - Submitting bad lineups - Not reminding TD members we were supposed to pick up milk on our way home from work And now that we're in this spot, and people who complained all season long has an outlet to give their opinion who is a better candidate are no where to be found.

    Funny how everyone had an opinion about firing Molitor, but no one has a definitive opinion about the replacements. It's almost like we don't have a way to quantify who is a good manager.
