    I guess it's possible that an Icarus situation is going on in baseball. But it's preposterous to think they let some players slide and only targeting Dominicans with the suspensions. Otherwise we have something much, much worse on our hands.

    Like Jerr, he gets zero sympathy from me. You're a professional athlete in a league with a crystal clear list of banned substances. It's his responsibility to know exactly what he's taking. Polanco was probably looking for an edge knowing Gordon, Lewis, and Javier are gunning for his spot on the team in the near future.

    Adrianza will be exposed with more PAs. A league average bat is a very rosy picture. I'm expecting Pedro Florimon type production from him. I'm way more interested in Nick Gordon seizing the opportunity and taking over at SS full-time. Throughout the offseason I've been beating the drum of trading Gordon+ for an impact SP. I don't like cheaters like Polanco. So let's trade him instead.

    Polanco added 20 pounds over the off-season working with this trainer... If that doesn't scream 'test me now' I don't know what does. Regardless, his size shouldn't matter. He cheated and got caught.

    The window is open for you, Nick Gordon. Let's hope you get hot in AAA and earn a quick promotion. I'm pretty disgusted with Polanco right now. I wouldn't be opposed to trading him after his suspension is over.

    Good luck to Vargas. I just don't see him getting 500+ PAs in the MLB. To me it's made sense for over a year that he makes his way to Korea or Japan. He could be a folk hero there hitting 40+ HRs and try his luck again in a year or 3.

    Agreed. If he lays off more back door benders he'll be good. He was starting to do so in the first half last year. Then he was pressing a little bit once he went into a slump and swung at those pitches again.

    I'm bullish on Sano... He'll be an All Star again, play 140+ games, and hit the ball extremely hard.

    I'd give up very little. It was fine to take a chance on someone with triple digit velocity potential in ST. It's a different story bringing him north for the season. You and others laid out the reality of Kinley. 27 years old, no track record of success above AA, most likely 12 on the depth chart. I've seen enough Hooey/Tonkin types... He needs more than a 97 MPH fastball.

    My answers to your questions: No. Yes. He should stick at 3B as long as he can. Not a significant reduction. Most all of his value comes from his bat. Not really. His best professional season was 2015 where he was a primary DH and crushing the ball. Yes. Hasn't he proven that already by still crushing the ball over the last 3 seasons at different weight totals? Probably. He's doing just fine right now though.

    All Mauer has to do is show the willingness to play for him to return in 2019. It doesn't matter to me if he's a starter or bench bat. As scottz said, Mauer has been the most known entity for casual Twins fans. I'm going to appreciate his loyalty to the Twins for 17 years, and being the most known "face of the organization" over the last 14 MLB seasons. It's going to be a long time until we see another player stick in this organization for 17 years.

    Maybe. Escobar is a UFA after this season. And if I've learned anything this offseason, it's to not offer long term contracts to players entering their decline phase. So that would eliminate 30 year old Escobar in 2019...

    I would argue that's always been a part of the plan. As long as he can hold his own at 3B until Mauer is retired I'm fine with it.

    Concur, concur, concur. This team (until this year with Morrison) doesn't sign power hitters. He's the first power hitter they've developed since Morneau. And people can't ship him out of town quick enough... I also think he'll be an All-Star again, and come close to 40 HRs.

    Concur. And ideally it keeps Hughes and/or Sanchez from the opening day rotation. Pray for the injury gods to stay away and this team is a contender for the division title.

    They could I guess. But why would you not want the 2nd best 2B in all of baseball? They could go with the cheap internal option and get maybe ~2 WAR from him, or 5+ WAR from Dozier.

    And, to touch on nicksavikings' main talking point, his sinker percentage has risen exponentially over the last couple of years per Fangraphs: Sinker percentage: 2012: 21% 2013: 20.5% 2014: 25.8% 2015: 27.5% 2017: 42.2% Just say no to Lance Lynn.
