I’m not really buying in on the idea of trading Vazquez this winter. His value is at the lowest it can be - in order to trade him now the Twins will have to eat around $10 of the remaining $20 million on his contract, or attach him with a pretty good prospect.
Why not wait until the 2024 trade deadline to see if he bounces back? The catcher position is weak throughout MLB and there will be opportunities down the road.
$10 million really isn’t that bad for a veteran C. If they’re aggressively shopping him, it makes me wonder if there is another major concern. Such as pitchers not liking throwing to him, or the FO thinking this is the start of his massive decline.
Perhaps Seattle is specifically targeting Polanco. I doubt they dumped Suarez's contract just to pick up Polanco's contract... That's a separate discussion. Suarez was just a salary dump contract. He's Trevor Plouffe with slightly better defense and getting paid $11 million in 2024.
I do... Kyle Gibson just got a 1/$12 + option and Lance Lynn just got 1/$10 + option from the Cardinals and they are light years worse than Sonny Gray.
Bingo. As we heard last year, players care about the total guaranteed money, and the big payroll teams add however many years they can to make it work for accounting/luxury tax purposes.
This is nothing but a hunch on my part, but I think Gray is going to get a 6 year contract for north of $120 million. That just seems to be the way it's going in free agency. Lower AAV and 2-3 more years than usual to smooth out the payments.
That was the turning point in the game. Dobbs was bad, no doubt, but without that Mattison fumble, we cruise to a victory. The Broncos offense was bad until we gave them a reason to win.
