  1. As SpiritofVodkaDave mentioned in the Rotation forum, Ervin Santana is bound to make his Twins debut in 2 weeks. That leaves us fans with a lot of questions on who's in, and who's out in the rotation. The lowest hanging fruit to clear up the rotation log jam and free up a spot on the 40 man roster going forward is Mike Pelfrey. The man is currently on the final year of his contract, and is most likely viewed as a rental player on a contending team. The question is, what could the Twins get via trade for Mike Pelfrey? Could we get a close to MLB ready catcher for a Pelfrey/prospect package deal? Or is he only worth a low-level, take a chance on me type of prospect?
  2. After the dust settles, I want Nolasco and Milone to be the odd men out. My hope is a rotation of Santana, Gibson, Hughes, Pelfrey, May. Pelfrey could be the one sent to the bullpen since that idea was mentioned in spring training I suppose. He has to be the #1 player on the team's trading block, right? TR needs to be selling his abilities to any GM willing to listen before the deadline...
  3. Yeah I can't recall the exact reasoning of Plouffe heading out to RF in 2011-12. That was during my Haight-Ashbury days in college. Like you mentioned that was the year he hit 24 dingers, and he certainly wasn't the fielder like he is today. I'm sure we had Punto or someone like him playing 3rd in those seasons. Sorry for going on a message binge with you and Brock last night. Just felt the need to defend Sano's ability to play in the OF if the Twins choose to go in that direction.
  4. My ideal batting order for the next couple of months: Buxton CF Rosario LF Dozier 2B Plouffe 3B Sano/Vargas platoon DH Hunter RF Mauer 1B TBD SS Suzuki C
  5. Brock, we've had a good discussion tonight and you bring up a persuasive point on Sano learning 2 new positions. I'll admit I got lost in the moment defending his ability to play in the OF regardless of having any games played at the position before. My original post before this thread exploded was I want Sano to earn his way into the lineup and not be handed a starting job in the field on a silver platter. No question that Plouffe has the better glove and think he's earned his spot on the team in 2016. DH is there for the taking, and he'll play 3B when Plouffe needs the day off. However there's going to be opportunities to find playing time at 1B next year... And the transition from the corner IF to the OF can certainly happen in the MLB. If it happens to be Plouffe filling in the gaps at 1B/OF, and Sano plays well enough plus sees more time at 3B, I'm sold.
  6. There is no shuffling around in this scenario. C- Suzuki 1B- Mauer. If he needs a day off in the field, Sano could be an option. 2B- Dozier SS- TBD 3B- Plouffe. If he needs a day off in the field, Sano could be an option. LF- Rosario CF- Buxton RF- Hunter. If Hunter needs a day off in the field and we need a better bat than Hicks, Sano is an option. DH- Sano primary option. Mauer, Plouffe, Hunter whenever they need a day off in the field.
  7. Split time at DH/RF. The more positions that Sano can play, the more flexible the lineup becomes. Nunez/Escobar transitions to utility IF and spot starters instead of every day players.
  8. Do I think a 260 pound man is gonna move like a gazelle in the OF? Absolutely not. I do believe he has enough athletic ability to make a majority of the plays out there. Also why does Rosario have to be benched in this scenario? I view Hicks as the eventual 4th OF anyway and an OF of Rosario Buxton Sano a couple of times a week is not a bad consolation prize.
  9. Trevor Plouffe played exactly 1 game in LF in his minor league career prior to the Twins shifting him to RF when he was initially struggling at 3rd. I see no issue with having Sano play in either corner OF spot or 1B as he learns on the job in his rookie year. EDIT: Should he be training now at AA with tracking fly balls? Absolutely. Maybe he already is. But he's actively learning one of the toughest positions on the diamond right now, and I value gaining all of that experience at 3B in the minors. They desperately want him to stick at 3B. In a pinch, it shouldn't be considered "insanity" to think he's not able to survive in the OF when that's the most natural transition for most failed or over the hill corner IF's.
  10. Even though it is unethical to do this, it gives us fans a sneak peak at exactly what they discuss, and it's pretty fascinating. Pretty much exactly what we do to our buddies in our fantasy baseball/football leagues. http://deadspin.com/what-the-cardinals-learned-from-hacking-the-astros-1711709663
  11. St. Louis Cardinals - Best Hackers in baseball - trademark pending for approval.
  12. He acted like a clown out there in the OF in April and has done absolutely nothing in the minors to warrant a recall. Sorry but there's a laundry list of players I'd like to see before Arcia wears a Twins uniform again.
  13. Any one is considered an upgrade over Duensing. Bring him up and see what he can do out of the pen!
  14. Still better than the "aw shucks" demeanor of Mauer's interviews.
  15. Very sad to read about Morneau. I would think he's not living check to check, so I hope he takes this time to evaluate the risks of continuing to play going forward. In regards to Mauer, I hope the FO has the testicular fortitude to make the tough call and bench him for better talent in the future. Sano is continuing to get his reps at 3B in the minors because they want that to be his landing spot. However, I believe he can make the switch to 1B at the MLB level without significant playing time there. He's learning the more demanding defensive position now and should fit in wherever we need him going forward.
  16. Overall I've been pleased as a fan this season because we're finally seeing a majority of the kids we've been talking about for the last 2-3 years. I agree with a lot of the commenters on this thread that we should continue the path we're on, and potentially only trade a Plouffe, Arcia, depth OF type at the deadline or this off-season. My short list of things I want to see at the end of this season: #1) I want Buxton to stick in CF the rest of the year and let him grow. #2) I want to see what Sano can do on the MLB club. If he's up by August/September, I will consider this season a good transition into being legitimate contenders next year and beyond.
  17. He looked a little nervous/overwhelmed at the plate, but that should be expected in his 1st game. Didn't help that the scouting report on him was to throw nothing but junk his way. The one fastball he got was hit hard. My 2 takes: the kid has some serious wheels, can't wait to see him work his way to the top of the order. And his defense is already an upgrade in the OF.
  18. I can get used to Rosario knocking in Buxton.....
  19. Some scout did his homework and told Martinez to throw nothing but hooks to Buxton
  20. Hitting triples like its our job today.
  21. Anyone else tired of watching 2015 Hughes after being spoiled last season by his performance?
  22. Another example tonight of being way overdue to cut the cord on Duensing.
  23. On MLB The Show with trade override setting turned on maybe.
