  1. The Lynn signing seems to me to be not unlike the Kenny Rogers signing in 2003--signed two weeks before the season started and was a solid addition to be the number 3 starter after Santana and Radke. I still don't understand why the Twins showed little to no interest in re-signing him for 2004. Let's hope it works out at least as well as it did in 2003 (31 GS, 13-8, 195 IP, 4.57 ERA).
  2. If you need only 4 starters how about having a 11 man pitching staff and have an extra guy on the bench?
  3. Frank Viola, Jack Morris and Tom Kelly might have an interesting take on this question.
  4. For a second there I thought you said Boof Bonser.
  5. KIllebrew winning HR in bottom of the 9th against the Yankees in last game before 1965 All-Star game. Yankees had won 2 of first 3 games of series and were still in contention. That HR all but finished them off. We were in a boat on Lake Minnetonka listening to the game and almost flipped it over when Killebrew hit the HR.
  6. The scenes from Major League where the construction workers and the guys in the bar are looking over the roster comes to mind. (cough, cough)
  7. Hector Rondon signed with Houston for $8.5 million for 2 years. Big miss by the Twins IMHO. If/when Rodney blows up he could've stepped right in to be the closer.
  8. Now go sign Hector Rendon as the set up guy.
  9. The Soviet hockey team beat the US hockey team 11-3 in NY a week before the 1980 Winter Olympics, so there's that.
  10. Just saw an article on mlb.com that yesterday during the game some of the Twins were joking about not scoring any runs and that Molitor didn't have a problem with it. Really?
  11. So is it too early to start thinking about comparing the Twins to the 88 Orioles?
  12. Hmmm, I think Baylor's and Hrbek's 1987 WS Game 6 home runs rank up there with Killebrew in 65 and Kirby in 91.
  13. Cautious optimism IF the starting pitching holds up i.e. Hughes comes reasonably close to last year, Nolasco bounces back, Gibson improves, Santana doesn't have a Nolasco type year, and whoever if the 5th starter does haflway decently. Oh, and it would be nice if Hicks finally takes CF by the horns and hits .250+ But it all starts with the starting pitching. See the 1977 Twins.
  14. Another old-timer may need to correct me, but I seem to recall that in 1965 Tovar almost missed the home opener at the Met because of massive flooding from the spring thaw that took out all kinds of roads. They had to fly him in by helicopter. In any event, Tovar was a critical part of the Twins between 1967 and 1971 and should be in the Twins HOF.
  15. So here I am last night minding my own business watching the Twins blow the 6-1 lead. Pressly has just thrown a wild pitch to put Kinsler on 3d and intentionally walks Cabrera to get to Martinez. So I tells myself, I'm not going to put myself through this yet again and figure the Tigers will win something like 12-8. So I turn off the game. This morning go to the At Bat app on my phone and see the Twin won 20-6. I hate baseball.
  16. Got a ways to go to match the 263 pitches thrown by A's pitchers in 9 innings against the Tigers in a 20-4 loss -- 4/13/93.
  17. Time to cue up the Bugs Bunny baseball conga line?
  18. Well, this is an improvement.
  19. A Bert Blyleven debut it wasn't.
  20. I thought it might have had something to do with the city not having enough money to give the drivers combat pay.
  21. So I'm watching the game on mlb.com and they showing the Twins dugout already full of all kinds of garbage -- is it a matter of Chicago not having garbage cans or the Twins players' moms raising a bunch of slobs?
  22. Vargas looks like he's using a little league bat.
  23. So who feels worse, the fan reading the names in today's line up or the manager who actually has to write them down to give to the umpire?
