  1. How many of these guys do you think WILL be part of our next contender?
  2. Berrios likely should have been up for good last year, and definitely for good this year.
  3. I was having the same conversations last year when I was being assured he had turned a corner. This could be the year, he'll only be 29 going into next season.
  4. Don't forget Jay and Stewart. Powerhouse rotation coming. Just wait. Hey remember the debate last year about Gibson and how so many thought he had turned a corner and we'd see great things this year? Yeah, about that. But hey, he's still young too. Patience.
  5. I'm not sure getting an ok reliever in the middle of a playoff race, and nothing more, constitutes a push for the playoffs. It beats selling in the middle of a playoff race, like 2007.
  6. But weren't you last year praising Ryan's efforts and saying we were true contenders, that we had reached the contender window, and would continue to be contenders this year and beyond? If you were one of the people here saying that, then how can you now say it was obvious we were not anywhere near the point of maintaining contention so a big trade for a proven player would have been absurd? Having said that, I am glad we didn't trade Kepler or Berrios for sure, never thought we should, but still.
  7. They had more than their fair share of breaks. The sequencing they had last year was unsustainable that's why many people saw that their roster was mostly the same going into this year and we'd see a fall back (though not THIS far of a fall). Can't blame them not making the playoffs on a few breaks not going their way, you can say they had a lot of things go their way to put this team even in the 2nd wild card race last year to begin with.
  8. Also, Ramos hasn't exactly been the model of health since he's been gone either. This is his 6th season away, this year will be his 3rd one with 90 or more starts. In the 5 1/2 seasons, he's accumulated less than 10 WAR.
  9. baby steps, certainly :-)
  10. Still waiting for the Suzuki extension of the extension. :-)
  11. Just for fun. In 2007, our rotation was 9th in the AL in WAR (11.7) with a 4.38 FIP in 967 IP. In 2008, our rotation was 9th in the AL in WAR (11.4) with a 4.32 FIP in 959 IP.
  12. I don't think we can really say the Capps trade got us to the playoffs. He was with us for two months, had only 27 appearances for us (only 27 innings), and we won the division by 6 games. No way the difference between Rauch and Capps for 27 innings equates to 6 wins. Also, at the time of the trade (4 months into a 6 month season), we had lost one game in which Rauch had been brought in to get a save. One game.
  13. How is this team now on pace to finish above .500
  14. Nunez is tied for 33rd in WAR for AL position players because defense counts too. How many position players originally make an All Star team (before all the injuries start knocking them out)? A player can be having a good season and still not be more worthy of an All Star spot than players who are more deserving that don't make it. Examples: Longoria. Tied for 10th in WAR, not on the All Star team.. Kyle Seager. 14th in WAR, not on All Star team. Kipnis (tied for 15th), Kinsler (tied for 15th), Correa (17th). Pedroia (18th). None on the All Star team. And if it's just about offense, Kinsler, Seager and Longoria (along with some other IFs not on the All Star team ) ahead of Nunez in wRC+.
  15. Mine do. We have family game nights. Current favorite: Catan.
  16. They need the new park to be able to be competitive :-)
  17. I wish I could say the same. This kind of futility is just a bit too much. I expect young guys to struggle, sure, but he just strikes out way too much, and most of his PA he seems to have no chance at. No plan, nothing. This guy is supposed to be a super-stud according to everyone (Top 2 prospect 3 years in a row. Another year in top 20), but there's nothing on offense. He's doing worse this year than last.
  18. I took into account that Cain was hurt but also that his wRC+ is under 100. I am a big fan of Cain though.
  19. S: Perez 1B: Cabrera 2B: Altuve 3B: Donaldson SS: Lindor OF: Trout, Betts, Bradley Jr. DH: Ortiz
  20. I completely tore my ACL in my knee this year. I opted for rehab and to build up my hammy and quad just to avoid having to have the surgery that comes with so much pain and such a long re-hab. So yeah, I agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly.
  21. Hughes old self wasn't 2014. It was an outlier. For Hughes, I hope the surgery goes well. I hope he's able to pitch again if that's what he wants to do.
  22. Wonder what our team OBP would be without his .367, considering he's second on the team? Our team is already 14th out of 15 (only 1 point above the As) with a team OBP 58 points lower than Mauer's. The Twins on the active 25 man roster with a higher wRC+ than Mauer: Grossman (give him a week or two). Nunez Dozier Unless we're taking into account his salary, he's probably not the guy you bench or release. Still a disappointing season for him, though, no doubt.
  23. He's a fine example of a truly valuable utility IF who doesn't disappoint if he has to play more than a utility guy would normally be called to do. A guy like that has value.
