  1. Most scouts call him a bat first player and a competent fielder at 2B You consider him a great defensive 2B. What makes you think that?
  2. My quote had zero to do with who we would have made available. I'm saying Boston is almost assuredly the ones who called Padres, which gives them the advantage as opposed to TR waiting by the phone waiting for a call from the Padres.
  3. Wait, we gave MAY the opportunity to stick? Are we talking rotation here? Best FIP in the rotation when he was demoted, best K/9IP when demoted, 2nd best BB/9 when demoted, 2nd best xFIP when demoted. Most WAR when demoted. 3rd most WAR as a starter for the whole season even though he only started 15 games. All that while having a .344 BABIP against (.300 is average). Meaning that was due to regress (we all got a taste of regression with Santana) which helps the other numbers. And he got demoted Berrios got FOUR starts. I guess Chargois got his chance to stick too. Yet Rosario was able to stick, a guy who can't even get on base 26% of the time and has an OPS in the low .600 playing a corner OF spot.... As far as ''Which is why I said let's see what happens this year, and expect to compete next year.' We've been reading that quote for a few years now and I'm guessing next year we'll see the game quote. Goal posts keep moving.
  4. Time to watch 'So I Married an Axe Murderer' again :-)
  5. Murphy is hitless in his last 5 games (gotten on base once) and has 4 hits in his last 35 PA (or, 4 for July, if you will).
  6. ah, the trade from the future part. I was stuck on the going all in part. In that case, we can add Hu for Jepsen :-)
  7. Sorry, I was just asking. I have no idea. Stopped paying attention.
  8. How is Murphy doing down in Triple A?
  9. When was that time again? I can't recall. I'm not joking.
  10. Boston clearly had the better chance since their GM almost assuredly called the Padres instead of waiting for the Padres to call them :-)
  11. How many of these guys do you think WILL be part of our next contender?
  12. Berrios likely should have been up for good last year, and definitely for good this year.
  13. I was having the same conversations last year when I was being assured he had turned a corner. This could be the year, he'll only be 29 going into next season.
  14. Don't forget Jay and Stewart. Powerhouse rotation coming. Just wait. Hey remember the debate last year about Gibson and how so many thought he had turned a corner and we'd see great things this year? Yeah, about that. But hey, he's still young too. Patience.
  15. I'm not sure getting an ok reliever in the middle of a playoff race, and nothing more, constitutes a push for the playoffs. It beats selling in the middle of a playoff race, like 2007.
  16. But weren't you last year praising Ryan's efforts and saying we were true contenders, that we had reached the contender window, and would continue to be contenders this year and beyond? If you were one of the people here saying that, then how can you now say it was obvious we were not anywhere near the point of maintaining contention so a big trade for a proven player would have been absurd? Having said that, I am glad we didn't trade Kepler or Berrios for sure, never thought we should, but still.
  17. They had more than their fair share of breaks. The sequencing they had last year was unsustainable that's why many people saw that their roster was mostly the same going into this year and we'd see a fall back (though not THIS far of a fall). Can't blame them not making the playoffs on a few breaks not going their way, you can say they had a lot of things go their way to put this team even in the 2nd wild card race last year to begin with.
  18. Also, Ramos hasn't exactly been the model of health since he's been gone either. This is his 6th season away, this year will be his 3rd one with 90 or more starts. In the 5 1/2 seasons, he's accumulated less than 10 WAR.
  19. baby steps, certainly :-)
  20. Still waiting for the Suzuki extension of the extension. :-)
  21. Just for fun. In 2007, our rotation was 9th in the AL in WAR (11.7) with a 4.38 FIP in 967 IP. In 2008, our rotation was 9th in the AL in WAR (11.4) with a 4.32 FIP in 959 IP.
  22. I don't think we can really say the Capps trade got us to the playoffs. He was with us for two months, had only 27 appearances for us (only 27 innings), and we won the division by 6 games. No way the difference between Rauch and Capps for 27 innings equates to 6 wins. Also, at the time of the trade (4 months into a 6 month season), we had lost one game in which Rauch had been brought in to get a save. One game.
