    Cubs still won their division and made in the the NLCS. Very good year for them. Losing Fowler was big and a falloff from the pitching staff was an issue for them too.

    He was? Based on what? I'd say Santana was. Anyway in Gibson's last three starts, he had one quality start, gave up 11 ER in only 16 2/3 IP to include his last start where he gave up 3 ER, threw 87 pitches, and didn't make it out of the 4th. And in 3 of the 11 starts he had in the last 2 months, he didn't make it out of the 5th three times. This is the guy you think should have started our playoff game (not a game 163)? Yeah, no.

    Assuming he stays healthy and stays in playing shape (assuming one thinks he's in playing shape now).

    Sano has half the PAs Rendon has. Rendon gets him in BA and OBP and strikes out WAAAAAAAAY less. Rendon has less strikeouts in his career than Sano did in his first half season in the majors. Rendon is also way better of a defender. Sano has Rendon on power.

    All I was saying is that his ERA wasn't below 4.00 simply because of the defense. He was legitimately good.

    His FIP was even lower than his ERA. 2.8 WAR with 2/3 of a season.

    It's pretty annoying that they STILL withheld documents. Without them all, we can draw no real conclusions. And one wonders. WHY, exactly, do the intelligence agencies NOT want some documents released.

    Seems like pitchers can act any way they want but the batters have to follow stupid unwritten rules so as not to hurt the pitchers' feelings. I am pro bat flip. Then again, I am against most old school views in sports.

    Yeah, I wasn't one of those people saying that. I've always been a huge Verlander fan and a believer of his ability. And the guy has it all. Money, fame, and Kate Upton.

    And maybe they knew Verlander wouldn't accept a trade to the Twins? If you're Verlander, and you know every quality team wants you and you can so no to any trade (10/5 player), do you accept a trade to fringe contender Twins, or do you only accept a trade to a team like the Astros or Cubs (and I believe those were the two big contenders for him)?

    Which side am I on? I don't have a side. I'd love to have Verlander and I've never said be frugal in spending or trading. But money would have to be taken into account? Or wouldn't it? I just don't think it was ever really a thing that could have happened, because Verlander would have had to agree, and I can't see that happening. And continuing to bemoan the Twins not getting him every time he does well is well, too much 'I told you so'. Threads get closed for continuous I told you so posts. See The Hicks/Murphy trade thread.

    I had completely forgotten about him still being with the organization, though I never bought into him in the first place.

    Not only would they have had to top the offer Houston made, but then they would also have to pay him 20M a year for the next two. And even more importantly, Verlander had to approve the trade himself. Again, these 'I told you so' posts after he pitches another great game is exactly what caused the closing of the Hicks/Murphy trade thread.
