  1. Well, the OP started this post almost a week ago, so I doubt it's bad timing for him. Additionally, here were plenty of people who hated this signing from the start, and well before this thread started, so I doubt too many read a thread started on April 27th and were only then convinced to jump on the 'hate this signing' bandwagon. And of course, most people understand that a guy almost 40 shouldn't have his current state of ability based on what he did in his 20s and early-mid 30s.
  2. Well, before yesterday's game he had an OPS in the .500s and no RF had a worse DRS. I'm not sure how that doesn't qualify as part of the problem, especially when signing an almost 40 year old OF with horrible defense was a bad idea to begin with. Having said that, Ryan offered him what he did, and of course Hunter takes that money if a GM is willing to give it to him. He's giving his effort but his time is gone.
  3. Good timing for this post. Before this game, he had an OPS in the .500s and there was no RF with a worse DRS.
  4. That tells us a lot about our OF, right? And our fantastic prospect line. How long has our OF been bad?
  5. Nice article about a former ball player's thoughts on analytics. Oriole's Vice President of Baseball Operations, Brady Anderson. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/brady-anderson-on-analytics/

  7. How, exactly, do pitchers improve their bitches? :-)
  8. 'I find it interesting that people seem to be implying that having any sort of timeline for success is odd. ' Mike, seems most, if not all, businesses have short and long term goals. I don't know of any that don't. I imagine the Twins do as well. So yeah, you're right.
  9. There are dumb people in every fan base. The Giants/Dodgers rivalry has a long and rich tradition going back to their NY days. IMO, it's always been the best rivalry in the game.
  10. May has a FIP of 2.66 and an xFIP of 3.31. Both of these are the best of all the starters. He keeps throwing like this, he deserves to stay in the rotation. Gibson and Milone have been horrible. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=sta&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=8&rost=0&age=0
  11. Neither are overly good with such small sample sizes, but to Use UZR/150 on 19 or so games worth? Would you say a guy's BA was going to be .219 over a season if his BA right now was .219? One uses UZR and DRS, not UZR/150. DRS is total defensive value and while not perfect this early, it beats UZR this early and certainly UZR/150 this early. UZR/150 is basically worthless unless you want to compare a guy with say 90 games played to a guy who played 150 or so. That is pretty much all it's good for and even then it's shaky. The real stats are UZR and DRS.
  12. you should go mentor other golfers. See if they will pay you 10M to do it.
  13. As of now, there is no RF in the game with a worse DRS than Hunter.
  14. 'This post is unfair to a guy that is a class act.' -Torii is a class act? Really? That's EXTREMELY debatable. 'Torii has been a proven winner everywhere he played in his career' -Torii has played on some good teams. He's been fortunate that way. 'He will make a huge difference in the development of our younger players' -There's no proof this is true, regardless of the narrative this team has pushed. It certainly isn't fact. And, on top of that, a few of the guys he's supposed to mentor aren't even here yet. 'that is why he was signed.' - Signed to sell tickets to people with fond memories of his glroy days with us. If he was only signed to mentor kids, they should have offered him a coaching gig, not 10M.
  15. 'Plouffe could regress. Or he could fail to transition to another position, which would likely cause us moving one of the best prospects we have ever had to play out of position and in a position that will lower his WAR.' If Sano is a very poor/poor defender at 3B his WAR is going to take a hit anyway.
  16. According to DRS, only 4 teams have been worse on defense for the season. The difference between the team's FIP and ERA is only .11 and for just the rotation it's only .30 as of now. The defense is very bad and has hurt us. At least from what I've seen so far in the season.
  17. yup, thank goodness his turn in the lineup came up at that point. The randomness of that being under the control of a player and all.
  18. Our starting pitching ranks 28th in FIP, 24th in ERA, 26th in xFIP, 23rd in IP, last in K/9, and 21st in BB/9. Is this good?
  19. The last year Joe caught he led the league in CS% with 43%. He had only one season where he was below average in CS%. And that's impressive considering how poorly our pitchers hold runners.
  20. Then enough time has been wasted on him and we should cut bait. 8 years for a 1st round pick and he's not good enough to start on this team right now, with the state of our OF? Jettison him. Rosario, Buxton and Arcia are likely the OF for the foreseeable future anyway.
  21. Kris Bryant had to play CF today.
  22. He's on his 8th season in the minors. By now, the way we find out if he can do it in the majors is to play him in the majors. Sink or swim.
  23. well, he was a reliever his last year with the Giants, and a very good one too. The Twins just didn't switch him back to a starter because the Giants already figured out he wasn't starter material.
  24. I also enjoyed the chat, and thanks :-)
  25. When I was in the military and stationed overseas, people were always calling me 'Blue' off duty (and sometimes on duty if they knew me well and we were alone) cause I umpired a lot.
