  1. yeah, his contract now certainly does make him harder to trade. On this rebuilding team, trading a guy who had such a huge outlying season(and a great contract) for prospects (or a quality OF, perhaps), would have been a better move than extending him.
  2. I agree. Like I said, he was an ace last year. Absolutely. Really the question is whether or not he can repeat last year because last year was way out of his norm. I, personally, think he's somewhere between what he was prior to last year and what he was last year. He was a very good sign by Terry Ryan. Not sure about the extension (I might have flipped him if I could get a GM to buy on his career year or just let his contract ride), but the original sign was a good move. In regards to last year, sometimes when a player does really well on a bad team his performance gets overlooked by fans of other teams. So, assuming the Twins got much attention by the casual fan to begin with (based on how we've played the last few years), some might just look at a standard stat listing and not see how good he was. They may not see how some numbers might have been affected by things outside of his control. If Hughes had performed the way he did last year on a good team, he would have gotten much more attention. If he had performed the way he did for us on a team with a defense like the Royals, I think he finishes higher than 7th in the CY Young voting.
  3. I apologize to old nurse for misunderstanding the point of his post when he mentioned BABIP. He was pointing out that metrics is a hot topic point by using BABIP as an example. I didn't notice that was what he was using the BABIP comment for. To me, it seemed like he was saying math guys flip flopped on the use of BABIP and I responded. I don't think I did it in a rude way at all. I think I was just trying to touch on his points to explain that hadn't happened. I already explained why I used the bold parts, so I won't explain that again. In any event, I misunderstood his point, and that's on me. So sorry about that. I didn't purposely do it though, I didn't try and put anyone's words in their mouth in order to talk about a stat. I certainly didn't think I was, in any way, rude on either post, but if it came off that way, I apologize for that as well.
  4. I was saying if we had gotten a quality CF (at any point in the last three years), we could move him to a corner whenever Buxton was ready. As far as Hunter goes, yeah I've been against that from the beginning.
  5. Oh goodness no, that's my point.
  6. And Harvey is absolutely an ace, so is Jose Fernandez, who is recovering but is absolutely a stud. If I had to pick between those two and Kluber in the next three years I'll take Harvey and Fernandez over Kluber.
  7. two HR for Kurt. Way to go.
  8. Well, you're getting you wish. Way more hit to RF. No power going that way so far, but hits for sure.
  9. If a batter is pitched inside he should be able to pull for sure if they pitch him outside he should not be trying to pull. Trying to force the issue the pull ball issue is a bad idea.
  10. he's a soon to be 40 year old bad defender. that's who we have.
  11. Mauer batted .486/.481/.714 last year opposite field. Nothing wrong with being able to pull the ball but if all he does is go up there and try and pull the ball XBH is very likely to be very low because he's just trying to make sure he's getting a hit he's not driving the ball.
  12. HIS BABIP from last year wasn't going to happen again, but it will be awhile before we know whether he is bad, or somewhere between bad and last year.
  13. That was Mauer's 1st hit opposite field all year.
  14. 1st XBH, opposite field. Not shocking. This need to pull a ball has gotten out of hand.
  15. He did, a lot. Mauer also batted in the 2 spot a lot last year, so that's nothing new either.
  16. He's probably being test 2, 3 times a week.
  17. Trevor just needs to play, period.
  18. Twins are on at 1 p.m., but then the Wild playoff game is on at 2 p.m. Grrr. Choices.
  19. I'd agree.
  20. Does my post have ire or am I just trying to point out what BABIP is all about to someone who doesn't seem to understand it? Again, there's no personal shot in my post. I'm not sure how one can read my post and think I'm fired up at all or that it's a mean post. If it's because of the bolded parts, you'll notice I bolded your comments and the comments of mine (or the quoted ones) that are bolded touch upon your bolded remarks the most.
  21. GO TWINS! and BTW, WAY TO GO WILD!
  22. kid goes up there all pumped up wanting to be the hero right after a pitcher walked a guy. Have to make him throw strikes.
