  1. big picture stuff, not 5 innings stuff. they just keep pushing the walks are evil narrative.
  2. Nolasco doesn't walk a lot because they are too busy getting hits off him instead.
  3. announcers are being harsh with Dozier. didn't know they knew how to do that.
  4. I thought he did great work. Not quite as well as Kiley of course, who was likely the best in the business, but still a quality prospect guy. Look forward to reading his stuff in the future.
  5. From Dave Cameron's chat on Wednesday: 'Q: Isn’t a trade for Trout impossible to be a reality? A team would have to sacrifice so much to get Mike Trout, it would just leave them in a similar situation the Angels are currently in right? A: Nope, that’s a myth. There are a good number of teams that could trade for Trout without destroying their MLB talent pool.'
  6. Ah yes, Minnesota....land of the forward thinkers :-)

  8. Even with his very good 2014, Hughes career ERA as a starter is 4.51 (4.18 FIP) As a reliever, 2.11 ERA (2.27 FIP) in an admittedly small sample size. His starter size is larger enough though. As a reliever: 3.5 more Ks/9IP WHIP 46 points lower than his starter WHIP. And I could go on. A beast in the bullpen, really. Nothing more than a #5, #4 (at best) starter (barring another completely outlier season).
  9. Since the money is already spent, I'd do the same thing. Hughes was a very good reliever. It's where he belongs. It's where he's always belonged.
  10. no, he wasn't. not at all. And he certainly wasn't given the amount of time Davis was given to show what he could (or couldn't) do.
  11. Interesting comparison. Wade Davis was a clear failure as a starter and was given plenty of time to prove that, and Betances had exactly one start in the majors about 5 years ago and lasted a whopping 2 innings. He was never going to be a starter. Comparing May's starter career to theirs is like comparing monkeys to lizards.
  12. or Ryan since he's been back, actually..
  13. If you figure a playoff team this year would need at least 88 wins, Twins would have to go 80-49 the rest of the way. If we go down to 86 wins needed it's 78-51. With the 'talent' on this team, it'd be a blood miracle for either of those to happen. Team should look at that and act accordingly. Or they could have been smart, and realized this wasn't a playoff team before the season even started and acted accordingly, but that ship has sailed.
  14. My best friend lives in Portland and its awesome there. I would live there in a heartbeat.
  15. Report Card: F--
  16. the difference is, Joe's normal years were still very awesome, just not AS awesome as his MVP year. Not so much with Hughes.
  17. For those who value ERA stat, we have the worst team ERA in the AL and I believe after today we're 12th or 13th in FIP.
  18. There's a reason we were able to originally sign them both so cheaply when we originally signed them. Teams knew better. So I agree, we don't get anything of value for either of them in a trade or even if we pair them together. I'm not not talking about the horrendous, predictably horrible decision to re-sign both of them, but the original signings.
  19. Just keep looking to the prospects, the promised land is just over the horizon...
  20. well, your sarcasm aside, it's not just the results of his PAs that are the problem, it's how he looked during them, which would be totally lost. I'm going to stop now since it's apparent by your tone with me and others you can't have a conversation about this topic without putting snark into your comments.
