  1. yup, this Twins team is on the cusp of breaking out of the funk they started the season in.
  2. comical yes, but is he athletically comical? That's what matters :-)
  3. A great arm means nothing if you can't control it. Remember Gomez with us?
  4. That routes like that are taken by mail delivery people not athletes?
  5. Half a season in 2014. Which prompted a new contract that was Ooooohhhhh so worth it. About the last time we had an ace type pitching season from a starter, which prompted a new contract that was Ooooooohhhh so worth it. :-)
  6. 'I think he will be more than fine. He has to be as good as Span, better than Revere (whom everyone seems to hate, but the guy gets on base and steals them...what more can you ask there)' Span is very under-rated. He was as a Twin by both the fan base and the media. He still is in a lot of ways. Revere has only recently started getting on base at a decent clip. His career OBP is still under .330 and 24 points below Span's career OBP. And even if one really cared about SBs, he's also only eclipsed 30 SBs once. And Span was always the better CF (even before taking into account Revere's noodle arm). Span just isn't flashy and doesn't have a big smile. I'm not sure there's any way to say that, as an overall player, Buxton HAS to be as good as Span. I'd be happy with that and not sure he'll ever get there.
  7. Going into today, Mauer's OBP was 41 points higher than any other AL regular. 41 points. And he's 2 for 3. He's gotten on base every game.
  8. 'Who Really is the Twins Best Hitter?' Still Mauer
  9. Mauer started getting dogged before he ever hit his real decline. It started when fans decided that one outlier year should be his norm since he got a huge contract when that was never really Mauer's game. Then he had concussion issues. And some of the things he's gotten dogged for? -Not standing at the stairs and cheering (even though he was a catcher at the time and he needed to have his gear on). -Being put in the 3 hole when A: Not his choice, manager makes that call and B: No one better in the lineup to be there. And more and more and so on and so on. It's not legitimate gripes that bothered be, it's all extreme stretching for excuses. And I'm not talking about markets like Philly and NY. You named two of the three worst markets for fanbases.
  10. There are Twins fans who still can't spell Mauer correctly. Spelling isn't high on any list of competency. :-)
  11. Bremer just talked about how many CFs the Twins have traded over the last several years. And we've had a lot of value from those trades...
  12. Well, if they traded Mauer, they'd free up more money for the owner to pocket or get 2, 3 middling veterans. I'd rather just have Mauer, myself. He's not blocking anyone and he's still a quality hitter. I don't care what he gets paid. I have no faith the freed up money would be spent on an ace type pitcher or a pereniall all star position player. If I was Mauer, I'd request a trade. The way the fans have treated him over the last few years, the vitriol he's had to endure, and the fact this team will go nowhere for a few years (at least) would make me want to leave.
  13. I was there. In person. The 2nd game of a split double header. I had fantastic seats, but drank a bit too much between games and every half inning it was off to the bathroom. Edit, nope. Not his first game. My bad. His 4th start. Sorry.
  14. hahaha. I've been consistent in my fandom for him
  15. Trevor (Rodney Dangerfield) Plouffe.
  16. I'm saying that his lack of RBI over his career hasn't always been on him. A lot of it had to do with poor OBP guys in front of him and the fact that, as a catcher, he didn't play 162. Also, if singles aren't scoring guys from 2B on singles maybe that has at least something to do with who is on 2B. My point is, he does exceedingly well with RISP and has practically every season. Having said that, he belongs in the 2 hole. It's where the best hitter should be.
  17. what about the other 55%? :-)
  18. Just cause the Twins aren't ready to give up on this season yet doesn't mean they shouldn't. IMO, it should be all about getting the youngsters playing time. Oh, and BTW, Ryan did very little to even try and make this a competitive season so he should be all about jumping into full rebuild.
  19. Hughes being Hughes. One outlier year in the last 5 and TR hands out a fat contract.
  20. I've always been a big Dozier fan and supporter and even I never thought he was the best 2B in the game. Not sure he's ever been the best 2B in the division.
  21. and he leads the league in doubles and SBs going into today.
  22. I've noticed that and I don't disagree. Every part of Suzuki's game is subpar. Funny thing is, the game where Murphy got tossed, they received basically the same inside pitch. Suzuki caught it worse, in part, because it went where it wasn't supposed to and he had to adjust. He got the called strike where Murphy didn't. (which got him tossed).
  23. And Today is Star Wars day. May the Fourth be with everyone!
