  1. defense just isn't important.
  2. And they just showed the slide again during the Twins game showing right now, and if his spikes had been any lower, they would have been underground.
  3. Dave Cameron chat today: Q: The Pirates are in contention, and rolling Jon Niese and Jeff Locke out there. Meanwhile, Glasnow and Taillon continue to mow down AAA batters. Why are the Pirates waiting to bring them up? Are they waiting on the Super-TWo deadline? A:: Taillon hasn’t pitched much the last few years, and Glasnow still has significant command issues. Keep in mind the lesson of Jose Berrios; the jump to the big leagues isn’t always as easy as it appears, and it does more harm than good to put a kid on the yo-yo between the big leagues and the minors.
  4. and most of the boneheaded moves that he makes are called out as such before we ever know the outcome of the move itself.
  5. I'd argue Mauer was already going to get a very similar contract whether he hit for power in 2009 or not. I mean, we can't pretend his BA and OBP in 2009 was out of line since him getting a batting title was hardly new for him. So if his 2009 had like 15 HR less, his contract is still monstrous. He was an elite catcher before 2009 ever happened.
  6. and is we had two more wins or four more wins, we'd still be last in the AL. This roster was poorly put together. Molitor hasn't helped, but this roster, IMO, is the biggest problem.
  7. Baseball salaries have just increased so much in the last 10-15 years. Baseball salary inflation has been ridiculous. Like you said, I doubt we'd still be sitting in the 50-70K salary range if Carl was alive.
  8. When he got demoted he had the most WAR of any starter (still ended up 3rd in WAR as a starter even though he only had 16 starts), best FIP (didn't change), best K/9 (didn't change), 2nd best BB/9 (didn't change), best LOB% (didn't change) and to your point, yeah, crazy bad luck on balls in play. Team worse .344 BABIP.
  9. and if he somehow repeats 2014, which was very doubtful, and the team felt he priced himself too high, we could trade him. Let someone else bet on him finally turning the corner. Nothing justifies extending him after the first year of a 3 year-24M dollar deal.
  10. His spikes weren't up. That's been pointed out multiple times. His spikes were down, not up. And I seriously doubt the hit by pitch or Odor throwing at Bautista's head had more to do with the slide than what happened in the playoffs. Retaliation by butthurt Rangers. And I like how the Rangers waited until the last meeting of the season to do all this. Classy.
  11. My problem with the Hughes signing didn't happen in hindsight. Didn't like it the very moment it happened. 2014 was a complete outlier season and it was as obvious then as it is now. Same with Suzuki and getting a contract after his outlier season (or in his case, only half season). In Hughes case, as a GM, you'd HAVE to see if 2014 was a wonderful fluke or whether or not he had actually had a sustainable turn in his career by waiting until after the 2015 season at least. I was fine with the Mauer and Dozier contracts. Mauer didn't really start not being worth the money until his concussion and he got seriously underpaid for what we got before he ever got a big contract.. Dozier just had some arbitration years bought out as opposed to going year by year. No biggy.
  12. RE24 is a great stat for that. Well, as good of a stat as there is.
  13. The GM for the Braves gave the manager nothing to work with. Roster is horrible. Isn't a manager alive that could have made that clock tick. Our GM hasn't given our manager a lot either. Very poor roster construction not to mention leaving benches, and overworked bullpens, short during various games. We've also seen Molitor submit horrendous lineups and he seems to have zero feel for in-game management. Ironically, of the two GMs and two managers, the one who deserved to get fired least is the one who got just got fired.
  14. thing is, we had one awesome month last year.we only had one other month over .500. If his leadership was responsible, did he take a break the other 5 months of the season? Leadership is needed of course, it obviously helps in many areas of work including team sports, but sequencing was the main cause of our record last year and I doubt having Torii here would make a huge difference in our record this year.
  15. Yes, I could watch the video...again...for about the 20th time. As if I'd have on opinion on a play I haven't seen. Oh and I saw it when it first went down. I wonder how many times Byrnes saw it when he was, also, flat out wrong about Odor's intent. Or Eduardo Perez. Or Torii Hunter.
  16. I'm flat wrong. Hmm. Interesting. Eric Byrnes saw it and commented on MLB Network that Odor did exactly that. Baseball players all over saw it too and commented. There's articles on it. Yeah, I'll go ahead and stick with the opinion/fact he threw right at Bautista's head.
  17. Tennis and golf have even less violence than baseball. Probably because they aren't at all contact sports. Baseball is not meant to be a contract sport. It has it's moments of course, but it's not really a contact sport. Hockey players wear a ton of padding as do football players because they are sports that are inherently contact sports. Basketball is bound to have contact due to drives to the hole, blocking, charging, picking etc.
  18. You actually believe that Odor's throw had to do with the slide? Yeah, no. It was about the bat flip like 8 months ago. Oh, and Odor threw at his HEAD on that play! As far as the slide goes, the umpires did the right thing, called interference and both Bautista and the batter/runner were out.
  19. People keep talking about the punch. That was bad enough. Odor threw the ball as hard as he could at Bautista's head/face. If that connects, who knows what happens to Bautista. In the wrong spot, it could kill him.
  20. I read this morning Chavez was tossed.
  21. Couldn't agree more. This childish nonsense needs to stop.
  22. Odor also tried to throw a ball right at Bautista's face/head.
  23. This rotation doesn't have enough quality to fill out a 5 man rotation much less give inferior pitchers starts that the better ones could take.
  24. Assuming that he's able to adjust to the majors as so many of our prospects lately haven't been able to.
