  1. Odorizzi 2017 FIP: 5.43 Which would have been fourth on our 2017 team (unless we include Mejia and Colon's work with us, then Odorizzi would have been 6th). And his BABIP was ridiculously low. Way lower than it's ever been.
  2. I guess for me though, the idea that Dozier hits leadoff because he insists on hitting there is faulty. Molitor makes out the lineup. In the end, it's on Molitor if Dozier is hitting leadoff and it's not where he should hit. It's not on Dozier. He shouldn't be blamed for it.
  3. I am satisfied with the effort the FO made this offseason to bolster this team for now and for next year too. Getting Cobb would be great too, but even without that, it's been a very good offseason for the FO.
  4. Been saying a long time now: Hughes should pitch out of the pen.
  5. Odorizzi is going to be surprisingly good with us. We have bigger worries in our rotation than him.
  6. when doing the Mauer/Sano career comparisons, you forgot to include that Mauer battled some injuries too...oh, and that he did that offense while playing mostly catcher...oh and that Mauer has between 5 and 6 times as many PAs...oh, and that he plays quality defense. Lets see those comparisons as Sano plays another 12 or so seasons...If his body let's that happen. Next, compare those same stats of Sanos to HOFer Ozzie Smith...
  7. At least one writer feels we've had a great offseason. https://www.mlb.com/news/how-5-mlb-teams-can-still-win-the-offseason/c-266702116 Twins Modest proposal: Sign Lynn. Bottom line: The Twins have already had a great offseason with the trade for right-hander Jake Odorizzi to go with the earlier additions of relievers Addison Reed and Fernando Rodney and the signing of right-hander Anibal Sanchez. But with ace Ervin Santana sidelined until May or June because of a finger injury and with their young starters still figuring things out, the Twins could go a long way toward flat-out winning the offseason with one more starting pitcher.
  8. he is nowhere near a solid #2. Maybe a solid #4 or #5. We didnt give up anyone of consequence for him so good trade.
  9. He was worth over 16M last year. Hopefully he does as well this year or even better. An offer of less than 7M wouldn't cut it, IMO.
  10. And Cashner. Someone picked Cashner in the thread where people are guessing who and when.
  11. It's why I don't even think of going to Twins home games till June :-)
  12. on another thread. The one about twins making an offer for archer. Poster said Archer was a below average pitcher the last two years.
  13. You know who has been pretty consistently throwing 200 or more innings a season (if only barely). Chris Archer. Who apparently is below average, according to some ;-)
  14. yeah, I think he will be an upper end of the rotation type. Im not sure there is another starting pitching prospect in our minor league system that I have higher expectations of.
  15. so, they shouldnt have gone after him at all. Based on what you are saying about Darvish now, we shouldnt have gone after him at all. Look, I am on record saying it was fantasy to believe the Twins would sign Darvish, but offering and letting people know it was the largest offer we ever made is a meaningless if they know its nowhere near enough to sign the guy. A few years ago, Willingham was our biggest FA signing ever. We dont have a history of large FA contracts. Our bar is low. And yes, many teams havent made big splashes in FA. Many havent needed to. Many arent in position talent wise to where it makes sense to do so (i.e. no hope to contend). Teams like Milwaukee and the Twins both need to and are possible contender. Milwaukee has done some good stuff this offseason. They are going for it.
  16. The 'average fan' may not be thinking about future salaries of some of our younger players but plenty of people around here have. They probably also realize that all teams have players that get raises in arbitration and still manage to sign quality FAs here and there. All teams have to deal with that. Let's hope all those guys' play are worthy of big arbitration numbers. We should be so lucky. Now was the time. If ever there was a time to make a big splash to address your yearly GLARING need, it was now, right? Weak division, young players who could take the next step, they made the playoffs last year. This is the kind of situation that has been talked about over and over as THE time to do this. And we continue to dive for scraps. In regards to the last paragraph, it makes it seem like you're now saying that signing Darvish wouldn't have been a good idea and that it's turned out to be a good thing after all. Why exactly? That lesser talent that likely won't move the needle will be even cheaper? You were all for signing the almost 32 year old, were you not? And now that the Twins couldn't get it done, it wasn't a good idea to sign him after all? Turns out that it's actually better for us that we didn't get him?
  17. Over the last four seasons, and while pitching against usually extremely tough offenses in the AL East, Archer ranks 5th for starters in the AL in fWAR. Over the last THREE seasons, he ranks 3RD in the AL in fWAR. 3RD. He has blemishes but you have to look hard. I guess the term Ace is reserved for like 3 pitchers.
  18. someone like Cain would never go there...
  19. Archer was better in 2017 than 2016. He also tied for 9th in fWAR amongst all qualifying MLB starters (5th in AL). He is consistently very good in a division where the offenses are normally top notch. Not exactly sure why so many seem to think he isnt really all that great. We trying to make ourselves feel better when we dont get him and be ready to scream overpay if someone else does?
  20. maybe there will be a nice sturdy wooden board to float on.
