  1. That's not what Mike was saying. He was saying that Plouffe likely wouldn't get us a player already at the major league level that is better than him at positions of need and also younger (where we don't have a young prospect on the verge). Then he listed possible positions.
  2. UZR had him as the 4th best defensive 3B last year for qualified 3Bs (24 qualified), 5th in Range (RZR) and 10th in DRS. Either way, in the top 10 which is pretty impressive for a guy who was/is still learning the position.
  3. I think even the big boys will need the Phillies to eat some money if they want any quality prospect.
  4. Phillies are going to have to eat a good chunk of Hamels contract if they want any type of quality prospect in return.
  5. His defense was very good last year as well. Maybe it went unnoticed for whatever reason by some, but I was praising Plouffe huge strides on defense last season and this offseason as well. I like this part, '“At shortstop, where I played primarily, you gotta to go get the ball,” Plouffe explained. “At third base, if you are cutting your angles off that way, your range is going to be cut down dramatically. It was learning how to go laterally to the balls and learning the timing and a lot of things that go into it. I know it is fielding the ball and throwing over to first but that’s not how it is. There are a lot of different nuances you have to pick up and that took a little bit of time for me to figure out.” I still contend that it took the organization way too long to figure out he couldn't play SS at the MLB level. If they had figured that out much earlier, they could have transitioned him to 3B earlier in his pro career and he could have been an above average fielding 3B sooner.
  6. I've been a huge supporter of Mauer due to his abilities, but even I am starting to wonder now if we are ever going to see the old Mauer with the bat again. It's sad to think someone with his abilities has become so average so quickly from when he was still doing well (right up until he got his concussion).
  7. I look forward to seeing Correa in the majors.
  8. In the AL, the rotation is 13th in FIP and 14th in xFIP. In MLB, the rotation is 25th in FIP, 28th in xFIP. Both improvements.
  9. Yeah, full disclosure, I said the White Sox and Twins would battle for last in the division. I never bought the White Sox being good this year. And, you know, it's still early.
  10. How, exactly, do pitchers improve their bitches? :-)
  11. May has a FIP of 2.66 and an xFIP of 3.31. Both of these are the best of all the starters. He keeps throwing like this, he deserves to stay in the rotation. Gibson and Milone have been horrible. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=sta&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=8&rost=0&age=0
  12. 'Plouffe could regress. Or he could fail to transition to another position, which would likely cause us moving one of the best prospects we have ever had to play out of position and in a position that will lower his WAR.' If Sano is a very poor/poor defender at 3B his WAR is going to take a hit anyway.
  13. Ow, we want the Funk Give up the Funk Ow, we need the Funk We gotta have that Funk
  14. Ortiz is an ego-maniac so of course he refers to Vargas as Little Papi. To Papi, the game is all about Papi.
  15. Nothing at all wrong with Mauer's defense. He certainly doesn't belong in that group of defensive hacks.
  16. Plouffe's defense got noticeably better last year as did his offense. I'm not sure it's even better this year. He won't be an all star. There are quite a few better than him in the AL. That doesn't take away from Plouffe's hard work paying off though.
  17. and then to the bench after getting thrown out :-(
  18. I never said other wise. My point was, if people expected him to do well, they were bound to be let down based on the fact that he hadn't prepared and because he started the season late. And to play devils advocate for a moment, he wasn't employed in the offseason nor was he employed prior to being signed. He didn't owe any team anything.
  19. Morales didn't prepare for last season and started the season late. It was too much to expect him to do well after that
  20. Thanks for the info. And why? Because Santana's BABIP is a hair above league average right now and look at the results. Still, though SSS for everyone.
  21. I think it's possible. I think there's something to be said for comfort level of players (though, admittedly, not sure how moving an IF to CF would make him more comfortable). I also think that his offense last year was way over his abilities but is not as bad as this year so far. He has to figure out a way to get on base more.
  22. anyone know what league average BABIP is this year so far or what it was last year?
