  1. To me the question is fairly simple. If you were told you to pick the 3 best 2Bs in the game, would one of them be Dozier? If so, he's likely elite when taking into account position. Really it's a matter of opinion. The numbers suggest he very much is an elite 2B at this point.
  2. KC Fans have endured many, many years of futility, I am all for letting them enjoy the moment.
  3. Is this kind of like the question, 'What would you do for a Klondike bar?' :-)
  4. yeah, I'll take Fulmer, but good to read what you wrote there. thanks for the info.
  5. I don't think the powers to be actually figured his power numbers were there for good after only one season of having them. I would hope they wouldn't think that. That would be poor trend analysis. I think most FOs would have waited to see if Mauer was able to repeat 2009's power number before assuming 2009 was going to be the new norm. I certainly didn't expect him to continue that. Let's say he instead just won another batting title in 2009 (not exactly out of the norm for him at the time) and didn't have the power numbers jumping up too, that's still 3 batting titles in the last 4 years. He still gets a huge contract and likely the same one. I also doubt on-field production was the only thing being considered when they were considering his contract.
  6. would have been better, in regards to their luck with Arizona State players in general (not '70s), if they hadn't passed on Pedroia like 6 times in the draft.
  7. 'What's The Best Plan For Tyler Jay?' Find a time machine, go back to the day of the draft, and pick Fulmer instead? Is that an option?
  8. I never criticized the extension. I thought it was a very good idea at the time and that the Twins actually got a bargain.
  9. But that's not what you said, buddy. You said, 'As long as the twins are within 4 games at the trade deadline'. I remember Ryan trading Castillo back when we were, what 6-7 games back of a playoff spot? One of his reasons he said he did that was that he'd rather get something for him than not since he wasn't going to re-sign him, That went over like a ton of bricks with the fans and the players. So yes, like you said, that would send a horrible message. it could happen though.
  10. Dave, Assuming Pelfrey is being considered pitching at his bets. you don't want to trade a veteran at his high peak value while you can?
  11. IMO, we just don't have anyone that we know for sure is capable of being a truly major league caliber starting shortstop. And we haven't for a long time (save 2010). The debate back and forth on Santana or Escobar is fun, but it's sad these are our choices to begin with (though I'm sure they are nice people).
  12. How could it NOT be okay to be excited about the Twins right now? They are playing inspired ball, they seem to care, and they seem to always be competitive. Is this not exactly how we want our team to play?
  13. I believe Cameron talked a lot about sequencing to explain it and to explain why it likely doesn't continue. (which is clustering).
  14. BTW, Tom, what you wrote was a very enjoyable read, thank you. It's nice to hear the Twins are having so much fun. Baseball should be fun.
  15. At this point, some are basically suggesting, in their knocks against their 'negative' articles, that national writers not post anything about the Twins unless they watch every minute of every game lest they have one or two inaccurate things and be dismissed as not knowing what they are talking about. That's asking too much ...and yet for a long time the complaint was the national writers ignore us.
  16. That's not really the same thing at all, but since you said that...you mean like the big positive thread I put up 2-3 days ago and which only had 9 responses? It was all about some of the positive things going for us this year. There were even suggested topics to be expounded on in other threads if one wanted to, as I pointed out in my BTW at the end. I was hoping all the people who like to point out all the negative threads would roll with it and there would be a lot more positive threads for us to discuss... and it got 9 responses. This isn't a complaint, just an interesting observation.
  17. Seems the popular opinion is that any story/article/evaluation that shows the Twins in a positive light is considered well done, well researched, well reasoned, etc. and any that doesn't show the Twins in a positive light gets nitpicked and labeled poorly done, poorly researched, bias against the Twins, etc.
  18. Tulo was the best shortstop by a mile coming into this season and he's having a slow start. Unless he's fallen off a cliff, he'd be a vast improvement on our team and most teams. In fact, even if he only averaged 120 games before having his annual injury, 120 games of Tulo and 42 games of others still makes that combo shorstop situation in the game.
  19. Now THIS is a fantastic post!
  20. I'm as big of a Mauer defender as there is because, hey, what a talent, but he's been bad with the bat this year, overall. He can't even blame a bad BABIP because his is .325. Even with the RBI, he's been below average, overall, in creating runs. Now, he does have a fantastic history which is likely why he gets a pass from some over some younger players because he's proven he can do it in the majors over a larger time period and they haven't. Some people expect him to eventually pull out of this because of it and because it's hard to believe someone who was doing so well as recently as mid 2013 has fallen off so steeply. He may, and he may not.
  21. He was having a very good year in 2013 until he had a concussion and he had a very good year the year before. Maybe it has more to do with the concussion than being married.
  22. Not going to stop me from singing the song
  23. Ow, we want the Funk Give up the Funk Ow, we need the Funk We gotta have that Funk
  24. he's being shifted to pull nowadays though due to his approach early in the season, right? Or is that just in the IF. In any even, he's pulled more than he's gone opposite field this year, I believe.
