    Projections and predictions aren't the same thing. One is based solely on what a team should do if everyone plays the way they should (basically measuring the true talent of a team). The other in made by people who know sequencing can't be taken into account along with understanding that it's ridiculous to assume every player will not only stay healthy, but will play to their exact abilities.

    Thanks man, I try to make a logical case when I can. As far as position players getting traded at the deadline, they do no doubt. I just don't remember anyone paying any premium prices for that position player. We could trade him at the deadline, but I doubt it'd be for as much as we'd get now. You've got teams scrambling for starting and relief pitching because they find themselves in the hunt (at times unexpectedly). Then they go for that pitcher to try and push for the playoffs or set up for the playoffs.

    and his FIP as a starter in 2015 was 3.35. AT the time he was demoted, easily the best of all the starters. He was on his way to being a possible 4 WAR starting pitcher when he was demoted. In only 16 starts he got 1.8.

    He also could do what he's projected to do and run about a 3 WAR this coming year as opposed to a almost 6 WAR like this season (I'd protect around a 4 WAR, myself). The best time to trade Santana and Dozier is before the season starts.

    Well, Dozier isn't worth what Eaton is and I think people who believe the Eaton trade was a big overpay by the Bats under-estimate Eaton (and his contract, and his years of control) by quite a bit and over-estimate Giolito (who the Nats, a pitch happy organization, seemed to be offering for everyone). I don't think it was an overpay, but if it was, it was slight. Doesn't need to be to the Dodgers (though it's a perfect trade fit), but the Dodgers will go get someone competent no matter what. Might not be Dozier, but they'll get someone competent if they can't get Dozier. Premium trade deadline price is for quality pitchers and high leverage relievers when making a run for the playoffs. Its not to get 2 months of a position player to put them over the edge for a playoff run.

    Jeff Sullivan said it right today, premium trade value at trade deadline is for pitchers not position players. Dozier is only getting paid 6M this year. The more time a team has him at this price the more value he has. If we have Dozier when the season starts, it hurts us.

    Fangraphs has Mejia as Twins #5 prospect and Gonsalvez as #3.

    I think if they are asking a lot for him, they'll definitely never trade him.

    I have no doubt the Red want Phillips gone. He stinks. He's old. Dozier had almost as much WAR last year as Phillips has the last 3 years combined. Who cares what Eithier wants? Why would the REDS want HIM? 35 and barely played last year. And who is taking on the money? Either makes bank and Phillips and McCutchen , well, they both make in one year what Dozier will make in two.. If I am the Dodgers, I no doubt trade for Dozier instead of Phillips and McCutchen. Easy choice. Their farm system is loaded, can easily absorb the loss of Alvarez, and they have money to fill spots if prospects don't turn out.

    I don't see that as even a remote possibility. Why would the Reds take Either? In any event, they would still be smarter to get Dozier. They have a quality CF, McCutchen is more expensive than Dozier, and Phillips is bad.

    My point was, they look very much even. With Dozier, I think he pushes the Dodgers over. Games still have to be played though.

    Cubs lost Fowler and Chapman is gone. Dodgers re-signed their major FAs and have Rich Hill for a full season. Their depth at starting pitching is very enviable. Their farm system has a few real quality players (like Bellinger, for example) ready to hit the Bigs. Sullivan has the Dodgers and Cubs even right now.I agree with Sullivan's assessment.. Dodgers are clearly the best in the NL West, but that's not enough.. Dozier would make them better, on paper, than the Cubs. No reason to not make the move.

    if we could get an Alex Gordon type player that would be a score. Very good player. Better than our protected corner OF starters for next year will be.

    Nobody is being forced to read comments on this thread or to post in the thread. People keep taking shots at Dave on here (some veiled, some obvious) for zero reason and after moderators said to knock it off. I, for one, like this thread. There has been,mostly, good conversation on it. No one is forcing anyone to read it or make comments.

    I havent seen it yet, but i really liked TFA. Not a fan of Felicity Jones one bit, so having her as the lead is unfortunate. Will see it in the next few days.
