  1. If a catcher starts 126 games in a 162 games season, has he been way over-used? Or even over-used?
  2. well, it's a good thing he's so good at framing and hitting. Oh, wait...
  3. going into today he was on pace for 126 starts
  4. reminds me of Santana not winning the CY in 2005 because he wasn't quite as good as he was in 2004.
  5. No all star game for Dozier. And Kershaw, who is 2nd in the NL in WAR for SP, did not make it either.
  6. You know a pitcher is other wordly when he has an ERA+ that has 4 digits. Wade Davis, ERA+ of 1591.
  7. 'What is Sacrifice Hit or Bunt - SAC? A strategic play by the batter where the ball is bunt by the hitter for the purpose of helping a runner on base progress around the bases. Batters are awarded a Sacrifice Hit if they are put out and a runner progresses to another base but don't receive an At Bat on the play. The terms "Sacrifice Hit" and "Sacrifice Bunt" are interchangeable and is also symbolized by an "S" or "SH".' 'In baseball, a sacrifice bunt (also called a sacrifice hit) is a batter's act of deliberately bunting the ball, before there are two outs, in a manner that allows a runner on base to advance to another base. The batter is almost always sacrificed (and to a certain degree that is the intent of the batter) but sometimes reaches base due to an error or fielder's choice. Sometimes the batter may safely reach base by simply outrunning the throw to first; this is not scored as a sacrifice bunt but rather a single. In the Major Leagues, sacrifice bunts reduce the average runs scored but increase the likelihood of scoring once. However, they can increase the average runs scored in an inning if the batter is a weak hitter. A successful sacrifice bunt does not count as an at bat, does not impact a player's batting average, and counts as a plate appearance. However, unlike a sacrifice fly, a sacrifice bunt does not count against a player in determining on-base percentage. If the official scorer believes that the batter was attempting to bunt for a base hit, and not solely to advance the runners, the batter is charged an at bat and is not credited with a sacrifice bunt.' Sac hit/sac bunt not to be confused with a sacrifice fly.
  8. 'Frank Thomas has the most career plate appearances without a sacrifice hit (10,075). Next on the list are Harmon Killebrew (9,933) and Vladimir Guerrero (9,059). Thanks to the esteemed Adam Darowski of Hall of Stats for this tasty bit of don’t-waste-outs info.'
  9. If Hughes is our ace we have serious, serious issues. Even worse if it's not even close. His ability shouldn't be judged by one quality season this decade. That's the outlier.
  10. 'Trevor, since I built a bullpen void of anyone who can strike someone out, besides Perkins (who my manager keeps on the sideline in extra innings games against division leaders), we'd like to move the starter who strikes out the most batters into the bullpen. That's you bubba. Try not to think of your unique ability, in this rotation, to dominate as the reason you got demoted. The very moment an inferior starter gets traded or hurt, you'll be back in there. Happy 4th of July. Want a burger?'-Terry Ryan.
  11. I know you aren't. I am though. IMO, he's been our best pitcher (or at least he and Gibson) and he has a future with this team. I've gone over plenty of reasons/validations for this move and none of them outweighs the fact he's arguably the best guy in our rotation right now and that doesn't warrant a demotion...which IS what this is.
  12. I applaud your ability to predict the Twins to do the dumbest things :-) Here I was naive enough to give them credit in advance for starting to finally look at things differently.
  13. Wait! Did they officially move MAY to the bullpen?
  14. I do not know of even one person who expected him to hit 40 HR much less 50. I'd be interested to read who was expecting 50.
  15. Just so you know, I put Santana in there only because he's absolutely going to be put in there by the team and this is thread about whether or not we should go from a 5 man rotation to a 6 man rotation. I'm on the side of the 5 man rotation and I've given reasons why. There is another thread about who should be the odd man out to maintain a 5 man rotation (titled 'Odd SP out')where the debate on who the five should be rages on. Your thoughts about where Santana should fit on the team when he returns is ideally put there. It'd be an interesting debate for sure.
  16. So was the professed productive out by Escobar still productive or completely worthless and unnecessary? Sorry, this was already covered.
  17. Jose Fernandez, likely my favorite SP in the game today, makes his return and his team wins AND he hits a HR! Way to go!
  18. My #6 was for Steve Garvey. #16 was when I couldn't get #6 :-)
  19. Richard and Bert blaming Santana being picked off on Dozier. Good grief. Before that, they were making excuses for Hunter if he didn't plate Santana. Again, the blame went to Dozier. They act as if Dozier would have definitely succeeded if he attempted to do something selfless to move Santana. He's one of our best hitters and it's early in the game. Let's preach giving away outs and doing so very early in the game. Especially from one of our best bats, if not our best bat currently.
