  1. The Twins won't trade Hunter. It would send a bad message to other potential free agents Loyalty matters.
  2. One advantage to upgrading the bullpen by keeping Trevor May out there - It makes it less likely that the Twins trade a promising prospect for a 7th or 8th inning guy (member Matt Capps!). Maybe May can be that set-up guy. AFTER the season, prospects should be traded for OTHER PROSPECTS to shore up positions where the Twins have a need one or two years down the line - MEANING Catcher and shortstop (depending on how they view Jorge Polanco's potential). The Twins look pretty good in the outfield and at first base, so maybe Adam Brett Walker and/or Max Kepler can be dangled out there for a similar level prospect at SS and Catcher.
  3. He plays several positions, and has a decent bat. The Twins are better with this guy on the bench and starting when it is needed because of injury or whatever. I don't see any controversy in keeping Nunez around. .Maybe Molitor will even start pronouncing his name correctly.
  4. Trade one or two of the current starters, preferably for a catcher for the present or the near future. Open up some room in the rotation for Santana, Nolasco and maybe Berrios. The Twins need to think ahead or they'll be in the position Oakland was last year, when they just put Tommy Milone on waivers. I have to believe there are some teams in need of starting pitching.
  5. Looks like Hicks might be going to the DL. So, there'll be more mlb service time for Shane Robinson (or Robertson as Bert call him half the time). In that event, move Hunter to RF and Vargas to DH.
  6. Yes - I'd move Mauer down to 5th and move Rosario up to 2nd!!!!!!!
  7. 1. Buxton CF 2. Rosario LF (Hicks has better arm, put Aaron in right - keep runners from going 1rst to 3rd) 3. Dozier 2B 4. Hunter DH 5. Mauer 1B 6. Plouffe 3B 7. Suzuki C 8. Escobar SS 9. Hicks RF Bench - Vargas, Nunez, Hermann (and one more, Robinson? - unless 13 pitchers, then Robinson released)
  8. Actual physical contact with an umpire is a big no-no. The accompanying massive tantrum will get Torii the two game suspension I am predicting.. By initiating contact, Torii Hunter touched the third rail.
  9. I predict a two game suspension. Earlier this year, David Ortiz was suspended for one game for bumping an umpire after contesting a "no checked swing" call. Ortiz threw his bat. Torii threw a bigger tantrum, and threw more stuff. So, he will get twice as much as Ortiz.
  10. After 3 or 4 more weeks of success at AA, Terry should feel comfortable bringing him up. If he doesn't succeed, then he goes back to AA or AAA. If he does succeed, it should help the line-up. How about: Buxton, Rosario. Dozier, Hunter (DH), Mauer, Plouffe, Suzuki, Hicks, Escobar (Polanco???). This puts Vargas as a PT DH and power off the bench, Hunter as a fourth outfielder, and deserving or simply necessary back-up catcher as additional bench player. Depending on whether Polanco comes up determines whether the Twins stick with Nunez, Escobar or both.
  11. Nunez has earned staying here. So, the question is who would be sent down if Polanco and Rosario were both to stay? Release Tim Stauffer and go with 12 pitchers, would be the best option in my opinion.
  12. At some point, Eduardo Escobar,Jorge Polanco and Danny Santana are in a battle to see who is the starting shortstop in August.and two years beyond. Then, one of them has ether secured a position or Nick Gordon or someone else is added to the mix.
  13. They are limiting J.R. Graham's pitches to the high 70s. The Twins used up a lot of relief pitchers in last night's debacle. I'm going today, but I'm feeling a little short-term negativity in this otherwise very positive year.
  14. At risk of starting an armed insurrection: How about Torii Hunter (as a reserve), and, especially after last night's performance, Mike Pelfrey (let the insurrection begin)
  15. Unlike the previous post, I wouldn't hope that our four outfielders are Rosario, Buxton, Arcia and Hicks. There are more potential outfielders in the mix for the Twins just at Chattanooga: Max Kepler, Adam Brett Walker II and Travis Harrison. The are all potential outfielders for the big league club by 2016-2017. Barring injury or a serious set-back, the only one that can be penciled in right now is Buxton. Aaron Hicks has a lot of competition for one of those other three outfield spot in the next 20 months. My hope is that the competition continues and the best four ultimately make their way to the Twins by mid-2016. If others fail to excel, hten so be it. Despite the great contribution from Torii Hunter this year, my other HOPE is that the Twins do NOT sign any more free agent outfielders.
  16. I was so excited about Hurlbut, that I misspelled ORGANIZATION. We could bring back Wayne and Garth to talk about monkeys hurling out of someone's B____
  17. Just promoted from Ft. Myers to the AA Lookouts: LHP David Hurlbut. I hope he continues to progress all the way to the big league team, just so we can hear the introduction, and the obligatory line, "This guy can really HURL his ____ OFF!" I'd rather have a pitcher named HURLBUT than one with the name Balfour. There can't be a better name in the organization and maybe in all of professional baseball.
  18. So why is James Beresford ignored, when he is bating .317? It looks like he has no power. His career minor league OPS is under .700. Furthermore, he plays second base and we've got one doing well already at that position and signed to a multi-year contract. Then again, shouldn't he get as much of a look at the MLB level as Doug Bernier?
  19. It depends on how you define "future". Danny Santana is certainly the near future, and the Twins have great hopes for Nick Gordon, last year's #1 pick in the draft. Who knows where Polanco lands in the mix and when. Nevertheless, these are the types of "problems" the Twins love to have. Hopefully, the can make some smart trades to fill positions where they are less deep (catcher?)
  20. I'll also attest to the fact that it is a great "game experience" at a Kernals Game. Mr. Shucks is a strange looking mascot, however. On the way there, be sure to stop at the Susie Q in Mason City. Order a "Spic and Span" Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. Check it out on www.roadfood.com Another website named it the second best pork tenderloin sandwich in the nation. My wife and I, Twin City metro dwellers, were very impressed.
  21. I wasn't a big fan of the signing of Ervin Santana to begin with. He's an aging average (potentially above average) pitcher who will block Berrios, Meyer, May, Stewart et.al. from entering the rotation. My biggest hope was for Ervin to have a big first half and then trading him away for value. Now that's pretty much shot because he caries a public relations hit!!!!
  22. With his big-time arm, Sano should be at 3B or RF. It's up to him to keep his weight under control in order to have the speed and agility to play those positions.
  23. Unfortunately, the Giants probably wouldn't trade Susac, because they apparently want him to catch and to move Buster Posey to a better position to get more at-bats (probably because that worked so well for Joe Mauer)
  24. Plouffe plays for a team in flyover country. We don't get no respect! The GMs will show more respect at the trading deadline than the eastern media.
  25. When I originally posted this, I didn't and still don't envision Sano coming north out of Spring Training. However, if Sano is doing well in the minors and Plouffe is excelling at the MLB level, then the Twins seriously have to consider trading Plouffe prior to the July 31 trade deadline. The remaining arbitration time makes him an even more attractive player in trade. If there is no good offer then Plouffe becomes a super utility guy or whatever. IF Sano is hitting the ball with power and average, but playing lousy defensively at 3B, then the Twins will have another difficult question to answer, with Mauer blocking 1B.
