  1. I agree. I think Sano is destined to be a first baseman in the future, but it would be nice to get 2-4 seasons out of him at third. If he doesn't stay in shape, however, he becomes either a designated hitter or designate for assignment.
  2. Seemed like a series of very vague answers mixed with platitudes. I'll never get that hour of my life back!!!
  3. So, someone explain to me how an all-star everyday player with power and good defense gets a lower level of prospect (and no extra players) than the number one prospect received from the Red Sox in the Chris Sale trade. I understand an ace is valuable, but he only plays once every five days. A guy like Dozier is going to play nearly every day, and is less likely to blow out an elbow or a shoulder.. I'm not saying the Twins won't get decent value for Dozier compared to the White Sox - but I'm worried!!!
  4. I hope this trade does not turn out to be Abad trade. - Hey it's the last time that stupid pun can be used
  5. Depending on what we in return, I have no problem parting with Kurt Suzuki who could be very valuable to a contender down the stretch, so the Twins could get value in return. However, Kintzler is 32 years old and has been successful this year. I don't think the Twins would get much for him. Keep him around for next year.
  6. By the way, I would never agree to be a Designated Driver if I was only offered a free SODA. In this State there is no SODA. I'd insist on some kind of POP. Go to www.popvssoda.com
  7. The original post was the result of my shock that there is something offered at Target Field which is actually arguably "a good deal." Unfortunately, the dollar a dog nights feature below average hot dogs in my skin-on opinion. So, my traditionalist sensibilities are challenged at the Legends Taco Bar. If Max Kepler continues to play well, I see many years of Bratwurst promotions.
  8. Now that the hopes of the team seem more like hopelessness, the food and drinks become more important in the Target Field Experience. Therefore, I should inform the Twin-minions that I have discovered a food item that is actually a good deal for Ballpark food. In the Legends area, one can purchase three Steak Tacos for $9.00, as you watch the somewhat cranky but proficient cook prepare it, It's at the same location where one can also order Brats and Polish Sausages (also tasty but not as good of a financial deal). There are restaurants which would charge as much or more for these tacos. They are pretty tasty as well, but WARNING: get plenty of napkins.. I don't know if these tacos are sold elsewhere at Target Field. By the way, the last time I discovered a "Good Deal" at a Twins game was at the old Metrodome, where one could ask the "volunteers" to serve the margaritas without ice. The resulting MUCHO GRANDE triple Margarita was a reasonable deal for the asking price at the time. Are there any other reasonable deals out there to make the $10 craft beer price and the lousy won-loss record more palatable??? I have tickets for seven more games!!!
  9. Another tough day at the ballpark today against the "You can call me" Rays. At least all those kids wearing their free Rosario jerseys were oblivious. Dozier batting second again!!! Why????????????????????
  10. Saw it on SB Nation. Good idea, since Hughes has "shoulder fatigue". Then have him pitch fewer innings.
  11. In other words, they discussed Sano's attitude but not the trade option. They were considering a demotion to AAA
  12. Just to be clear, the Sports Show just discussed the alleged bad attitude of Sano (Mike Max and Reusse). Reusse was talking about it just before 1PM on 1500 with ___ and Judd. I was suggesting that if this was true, and Sano isn't willing to put in the work, maybe we should unload him and keep Plouffe - - - Or maybe even go with Nunez as a fulltime 3B
  13. Reusse was the one complaining about Sano last night. He started this tirade when Spring Training started. Souhan took aim at Hughes and Perkins in today's Star and Sickle. Maybe trade both Plouffe and Sano and play Nunez full time over at 3B? I'm only partially kidding,. Desperate times call for desperate measures.,.
  14. The Souhan Column today describes alleged bad attitude from Hughes and Perkins. If that's true, and it's also true about Sano, then it's time to deal Sano while he is still a valuable young player. I suspect also that this may be FO stuff, except for the fact that Reusse noted the alleged problem with Sano before the season started. If this is part of a cancer in the clubhouse, then the cancer should be excised! I'd say the Twins should trade Perkins and Hughes, but nobody would take them! By the way, the closest Perkins and Hughes get to being Hispanic is to enjoy the taco bowl at Trump Tower. By the way, I just noticed the last five letters in Hispanic are PANIC! So maybe there's a subliminal thing going on
  15. Watching the Sports Show on 23CW last night and there was talk about Sano having a bad attitude (weight issues, hanging out with friends at DR REsorts when he should've been shagging fly balls in Fort Myers . . . ). Sano probably has more trade value than Plouffe. Trading him could light a fire under Sano, leading to years of regrets by Twins Fans complaining about the "bad trade". However, that doesn't mean Sano would have gotten it accomplished here. Plouffe is a solid major leaguer with a good attitude. Other teams trade the prospect and keep the solid veteran. Why not the Twins? Just a thought!!!!
  16. The Twins should tough out this horrible year as sellers (Plouffe, Dozier, Abad, Jepson), In 2017, start the youth movement with Dougie Baseball at the helm, and Gardenhire as bench coach (if he'll do it) - Gene Glynn also stays as 3B coach (unless he's ready to retire). It's time to replace Bruno and Neil Allen with some coaches outside organization (maybe promote Chad Allen if organization thinks he's worthy). Molitor goes to front office or retires. If this last, mostly inside move doesn't work by mid-2018, then it's time to blow it all up and start from scratch. The Twins have thrived sometimes with stability (as well as floundered at times, like this year). Give it one more try but on a short leash.
  17. No reason to trade any player when we won't get anything reasonable in return - so the Nolascos and Gibsons stay in hope they improve next year, or atleast provide something in lower rotation or in pen.. The obvious ones who could get something in return are Abad, Plouffe, Dozier, Ervin Santana and Nunez. Unfortunately, the Twins are now aiming for 2018 (probably 2019) with next year as another rebuilding year.
  18. So, what should the Twins philosophy be - as they construct this team? The current mishmash, including no viable left-handed starter, has become a train wreck. My vision is: power for the corner infielders and DH, speed in the middle infield and outfield, control pitchers (except for high-speed guys we develop), and a line-up that stresses speed and hustle over power (balanced 75-25 ratio versus 60-40). The Twins need to bring back the Twins Way, and teach it up throughout the farm system. It can be tweaked a bit, but good defense, smart pitching and speed is not passe.
  19. The Twins, maybe out of short-term necessity, seem to be winging it, rather than engaging in a strategy of designing a competitive team for Target Field for the long term. That long term vision should be based on creating a Twins Identity, bringing back the Twins Way - a three part philosophy:: 1. The Twins will never be able to consistently compete with the "big market" teams for the top free agents. often power pitchers and power hitters, and will have some trouble consistently retaining these types of players on the roster. So, concentrate on less fan-friendly, and less-expensive attributes like consistent, low-free-pass pitchers (yes, the "dreaded" pitch to contact guys), smart and effective base-running and excellent defense (especially up the middle and in the outfield to chase those balls hit when there's "pitch to contact"). . Preach these as the "Twins Way" throughout the minor leagues. 2. Design and "coach up" a line-up for Target Field of line-drive contact hitters, who can hit to all fields and the gaps, bunt, and advance runners, as well as acquiring and developing speedy hitters who can leg out the bunts and dribblers. 3. Recognize that certain players will not fit the blue-print of the Twins Identity, and be flexible in allowing very good and excellent players to make contributions in their own way (a Miguel Sano for Example). Avoid settling for average or below average players who do not fit into the Twins Way. The Twins should try to stick with a plan - a design, but should not be so rigid as to be stupid. So, under this blue print, the Twins would not have gone out of their way to pick up a Bjung Ho Park to simply be a DH and part-time first-baseman. Park appears to be a very good defensive first baseman and should only have been signed to take advantage of that in addition to his potent bat - It's too early to bring in a player to replace Joe Mauer, and Park was a superfluous signee. Under this blue print, Trevor Plouffe would have been dealt in the off-season (or would be traded around the trade deadline) to make room for Sano to play 3B. Sano should be a corner infielder. The Twins can sacrifice defense at the corner infield positions because of the minimal amount of foul territory at Target Field. Putting a Miguel Sano in Right Field, or Josh Willingham (or even Oswaldo Arcia) in Left Field is contrary to the philosophy that the Twins should be pursuing as a mid-market team in a ballpark with a lot of real estate in the outfield.
  20. Keep Jepson as closer for now. Nevertheless, the Twins should know that they are currently auditioning their closer of the future. Who is it? Chargois? Meyer? May? Burdi (not doing well so far in his audition)? Tonkin (ditto the Burdi comment)? Maybe one of the starters not named Milone, after being dumped from rotation?
  21. Alex Meyer's return gives Alex and the Twins to finally cue up some decent entrance music for the 6 foot 9 inch reliever. "I Stand Tall" by the Dictators. www.youtube.com/watch?=qFRmioelVaA Otherwise, save it for the debut of Loek Van Mil. Next call-up should be Berrios.
  22. I can't see it happening to this bunch. Make that, I hope it doesn't happen to this bunch.
  23. No big loss. The Twins need to be ahead in the ninth in order to need a closer. I'm still there tonight in my Ultimate Warrior T-Shirt to commemorate "Wrestling Mask" Night.
  24. Again - This isn't a vote for the best players, but the ones that bleeded (bled?) Twins - a Twins' Twin. Yes, Carneal was a better announcer but too taciturn. Dick is the local Minnesota boy who bleeds Twins more. Gagne was too laid to make this list, so Smalley gets the nod (I thought about putting Newman or Quilici at SS and putting the other at utility IF). Fentary, Halsey Hall was the crusty old sports writer who was thrilled to see the Twin Towns become a major league town.
  25. I really want to wee Loek Van Mil get a September call-up. Just want to see a Seven Footer pitch - no other reason!
