The 12 Free Agents of Twins-mas: Part II – Outfielders
High heat replied to renabanena's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like bringing in Hamilton on a minor league deal. I feel like our outfield depth is solid as it looks right now. IF you trade Rosario and/or Cave Pillar and Maybin make sense. as we sit right now we have Rosario, Buxton Kepler Marwin and Cave all at the big league level with Wade Riley and Blankhorn at AAA. But if your going to sit around and wait, then finally move Cave or Rosario late in Jan or Feb and you don't bring in a 1B or 3B and have to pencil in Marwin at 1B. Now you get caught with your pants down and we are think depth wise. -
Buxton and Kepler kind of go hand in hand. Buxton in CF is great defensively on his own but also pushes Kepler back to RF were he is much better defensively (though he is alright in CF he is borderline elite in RF) I think Berrios is what he is at this point. His delivery and release is funky trying to generate that power from a small frame. it gets out of wack and everything flattens out. I think he struggles with that his whole career. We need a young starter to step up I think Thorpe has the best chance of it. Graterol maybe getting it going right away and by mid May he is up and dominating. Have to find starting pitching and it looks like it isn't come from outside the organization. Sano, can he stay focused and have a bat like he did the second half. If he is asked to move to 1B can he get the footwork down and put in the time defensively. I think he has the kills to be above average defensively at 1B but has to be committed and put in the work there.

Trusting Internal Starting Pitching Options
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thorpe has to step up, has MLB stuff but needs to refine his control. not sure what to think about Dobnak he doesn't pass the eye test of sustainability to me, but did it long enough late last summer to get another opportunity. Smeltzer is a AAAA pitcher there have been tons of these guys come through the twins organization over the past few decades. If he can't figure it out in the bullpen he is a 6th or 7th starter if a few guys go down. Graterol has to be the guy we finally develop into a top of the rotation starter. He isn't there yet and may need till mid June to get there or even longer.- 70 replies

Can the Twins Fix Royce Lewis’s Swing?
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So the kid needs to quiet his hands and reduce the stride. Look at Javier Báez he has a big leg kick minimized his stride after yr one and isn’t to bad of a player. Sano mid season worked his hand placement and made that adjustment. is he ready probably not but don’t need to coach out all that talent- 54 replies

2020 Minnesota Twins Top 15 Prospects
High heat commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
These guys just throw **** to see what sticks to the wall. Fan graph has your best prospect who has a season at double A and an Arizona fall league MVP is 2 years away? same time as a SS who hasn’t hit at low A? based on what the Indians got for Kluber Twins should be able to get Price or take on payroll without giving much in prospects.- 8 comments

Well we are unwilling to pay the cost for the best. I think now you need to identify pitchers outside the organization that you and wes Johnson believe can teach or make adjustments to turn into that “ace”. i know it’s easier to say then do but it’s going to be the only way to get the pitching we need. you did it’s to a less extent with Penada and Odo and even Martin Perez for a couple months.

Twins Offseason Trade Target: Kyle Seager
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wouldn't mind bringing in Seager assuming Donaldson is extremely expensive and we have lost out on better options. As the roster sits right now Seager make this team better. Assuming you are getting Seager for basically free or even getting prospects to take him. Improving infield defense is badly need and Seager helps that. You have to find a way to improve this team, bargain bid shopping doesn't look like its going to work like it has the last 2 seasons. You have saved $ the last few years maybe taking on contracts for player who are overpaid but still help your team and you feel can thrive here is a way to get better. Twins need to do something, and cant get caught with there pants down. if it comes to spring training and we signed a couple #5 at best starter and our payroll sits at $100 mil. and they give us the same old lame excuses. You saw last summer, that this town loves baseball who you can put an exciting product on the field night in and night out. -
Let's Talk About Willians Astudillo
High heat replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like every young player (meaning limited mlb experience)in the league he has to make adjustments. If he can adjust and pick out better pitches to swing at And lay off the ones you can’t hit well he will succeed. Especially before you have 2 strikes. Inconsistent at bats and limited playing time doesn’t help. I think he has to stick and show he can be a serviceable catcher defensively. The defensive versatility is nice but his ability to catch will keep him in this league. he has an option year left go down and be the everyday catcher at AAA. Work on strike zone management be ready when injuries occur. We won’t have 2 catchers who stay completely health again like in 2019. I believe in him and more then a fun “gimmick” make an adjustment work at it and your be great -
Drew Smyly intrigues me he is a guy, that potentially could dominate if he can figure out the long ball. Wouldn't mind throwing pinada's starts at him to see if he stuck. But he would have to take Pineda's $ hes returning to use. The other 2 no thanks. The free agent starters are getting picked over quickly, if we were bargain bin shopping again all the good ones are going to be gone before Xmas.

The Twins Should be Dealing With the Marlins
High heat replied to Cooper Carlson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't see the Marlins wanting Rosario due to cost and only 2 years of future control. Lamon I would really like Alcantara, they may be more interested in guys like Lamonte Wade, Cave and/or Luke Haley. Combine them with a Brent Rooker, maybe you have enough future parts to get him away from the Marlins. -
Rumor this winter meeting is the Mets want to shed payroll and trade 1B Dominic Smith. Would the Twins take on a Familia who had a terrible season last year and is owed 3 yr for 30 million and get a young cheap 1B who plays solid defense at 1B and is projected to hit with power from the left side. I know we keep assuming Sano is moving over to 1B but maybe the Twins are thinking of giving him another year at 3B and this is a way they can Use payroll flexible get a guy at first and a guy in the bullpen if they think they can tweet some things and get the Familia from years past.

Twins Could Trade for a Former Free Agent Target
High heat commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
You originally didn’t want to go the extra year, now wanna get in on it after 2 prime years you would have originally would have wanted are gone? I like Darvish and like the idea of trading for him but not sure it’s worth paying prospects and big $ for him. Unless you can get away with cubs dumping salary and you give up some low level C type prospects.- 7 comments

I wanted Donaldson last offseason, but I think he had a make it good year and will now get a good size longer term deal. Didi would be a perfect Twins fit. Twins need to improve defensively and adding Didi at SS and move Polanco to 2B, which I think he would grade out extremely well and having Arreaz to 3rd or a utility role would help the pitching out tremendously. No thanks on Edwin, a DH part time 1B and his better days are behind him.

Twins Making Sweeping Changes on the Diamond?
High heat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is my thought! I think Sano can be as good as Cj Cron was defensively at 1B, but it requires all offseason and lots of innings this look at bringing in a guy like Addison Russell Or Jose Iglesias. Polanco would likely be a good maybe great defensive 2b. all the sudden the poor infield defense becomes a strength.- 32 replies

The Future Value of Luis Arraez
High heat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The kid can flat out hit. Knows the strike zone very well. Puts the ball in play all over the field. He doesn’t have any other above average skill but can play multiple positions. I think he is our 2b next yr and we can go move nick Gordon -
I really like Diaz, I don’t think he has as much trade value as Rooker but think his hit tools will translate to the MLB much better. I’d trade Rooker who strikes out at a much higher rate but has more power at the moment and more defensive versatility. I don’t believe Rooker translates the the majors. Reports are Diaz defense at 1B has improved which adds segnificant value. He hasn’t used any options, and appears to still have some developing to do. Worried that he starts his hands low and doesn’t always get them back up in his load. Which would make him extremely vulnerable to the high fastball and make him cheat to the heat and miss the breaking ball down. (Think Oswaldo Arcia) I like Diaz think he can be a very good left handed bat. Still has some developing to do but like that he isn’t currently on the 40 man but crushing in AA. Hope the Twins move either Rooker and/or Diaz in a deal. Value for both won’t get much higher. I’d rather keep Diaz because I think he has some developing left to do and isn’t taking up a 40 man spot yet.

He had nice flashes as a starter and has solid stuff with a good slider. I don’t see how he isn’t as good or better then Matt McGill or Duffey.

Brian navarreto has always interested me. Big dude who plays really good defense behind the plate. If he could just figure out the bat. Maybe he’s a late bloomer with the bat and last year was a starting point.

Prospect Spotlight Series: Royce Lewis
High heat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’m going to nit pick a guy yet I hope he stick at SS. Footwork looks slow, yet foot speed looks well and can see he can get there with the sliding stop up the middle up to his feet quickly. But getting footwork down and into throwing motion is needed. Arm looks strong but looks long. Meaning takes him a long time to get ball out of glove and long to first. Not sure if it is all footwork related or if it’s natural long throwing motion or a combo of the 2. Neither is detrimental just adjustment before big league ready. Expected from any 19yr old. I would argue his value changes segnificantly if he has to move off SS and into the OF. We’ll have to see what 2019 holds but a serious of interesting prospects to keep an eye on. -
Jonathan Schoop should be a guy we look at for 2nd base. Plays good defense and has had a good bat with power. I think a guy like Matt Shoemaker remind me of a guy like Joe Nathan. Has had some success but can’t stay healthy as a starter. Move him to the bullpen let him throw hard for 1 inning and not worry about setting up hitters.

Offseason Blueprint: Bargain Bin Shopping (Part 1)
High heat replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’m a fan of going after Jose Iglesias but if we miss out I would not mind them bringing back Brian dozier. I think a corner bat is needed I’m a Josh Donaldson fan on a one year deal or multiple years anyway to bring him in. Carlos Santana would be a decent vet and Phillies is likely to just give him away at this point.- 32 replies

May Day is Coming for the Twins
High heat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With starters rarely going passed 6 innings I think guys like May are perfect to be given the ball and told you get one time through the entire batting order. Get us as deep as possible. Then he's given the next day or 2 off. Everytime in that's his role.- 78 replies
