  1. To be fair the fact that we are now relying on guys like Pereda & Gasper are a big reason why we're now looking forward to watching the draft lottery rather than looking forward to going to the park and watching players who might be fun to watch. Whenever I look at the roster and see names like Gasper, Bride, Margot, Farmer, Garlick, Cave, Refsnyder, Whitefield, etc I get a bit nostalgic and think back to that old baseball addage "Wait till next year."
  2. I don't know if a couple prospects late in the year would make losing team more competitive but they sure as hell might make things more interesting and entertaining. Sometimes folks forget that the game needs to be entertaining. At the end of the season only one team is going to win it all. The rest had better be entertaining. As far as contending teams competing against non contending teams, I get it. But maybe that issue stems from having TOO MANY contending teams. Old enough to remember (vaguely) when only two teams made the post-season. Now we have twelve. Seems like a workable number could be found somewhere in between.
  3. Anything is better than 28. I'd sure has hell rather spend September watching guys like Rodriguez & Jenkins getting big league at bats than guys like Outman or Gasper
  4. Not what I said but the old system of allowing anyone on the 40 man to come up worked for as long as I've been watching baseball which is a Long time. Nobody every ever brought up 40 but it was a great chance for a suffering fan base to see guys they really wanted to see. We could be seeing guys like Rodriguez & Jenkins now instead of guys like Outman.
  5. Time for MLB do do away with this only expanding the September rosters by two players. Doesn't have to be the full 40 man but two does not do enough to allow teams to find out what some young guys can do. Also doesn't give contenders that opportunity to uncover a guy buried on the 40 who can make a surprise post-season contribution.
  6. Crystal balls are 20 / 20 Brass balls are about 20 pounds.
  7. So, if I'm following correctly, the most successful strategy would be to hire more successful candidates rather than less successful ones regardless of where they come from. Seems over simplified but if it works. Perhaps you (or I) should write a book about this.....
  8. Can we add the Boomstick or is not being particularly good at baseball one of the qualifications?
  9. They used to pitch. Now they throw. The harder the better. Don't rely on location or changing speeds. Just throw the ball as hard as they can and hope it doesn't get hit and that they don't get to meet the Tommy John doc.
  10. That's my point. They're babied from the first time they pick up a baseball. High school, little league, college, minors, big leagues. It's not just a Twins issue. Evolution of the game. Sad state of affairs.
  11. Maybe it points to an injury to David Festa's shoulder. Or maybe it points to a development issue with baseball pitching in general at all levels. Pitchers used to be developed to pitch. They are not developed for results but to not exceed innings and pitch count goals. They are babied at all levels. Festa tossed 53 innings this year. Next year if he gets to 65 there will start being questions about overuse. Pure and utter ********. I'm reminded of when Nolan Ryan threw a complete game, gave up pinch hit home runs to Harmon Killebrew & Rod Carew in a relief appearance two days later and then throwing a 10 inning complete game three days later. No, his arm did NOT fall off. Neither did Bert Blylevin's. Stop babying pitchers. Let 'em grow up to be pitchers.
  12. Amazing how many folks know what the Pohlads are going to do.
  13. you don't get better when your best players are playing for other teams
  14. I'd still like to see Royce at 1B. Plenty of guys in the wings to play the other three infield spots: Keashcall, Lee, Culpepper, Houston, DeBarge, Winkour, Amick (maybe projects as a 1B) I sure hope we didn't move a bunch of guys at the deadline to bring more guys to move at the deadline.
  15. Everybody forgets one small point in this matter: The Pohlads NEVER, at any point, said the WERE going to see the team. The only thing that was EVER said was that they were going in investigate a sale. Nobody met the price they were looking for. End of story.
  16. We hope it has. But until these guys PROVE to be more than the Kiriloffs, Larnachs & Covacos of the worlds You're just speculating on that.. I hope you are right. Hope is not a good strategy.
  17. You just presented both sides of the coin. Cavaco out of HS and Sabato out of college. You really didn't make any sort of argument.
  18. All i care about with this kid is seeing him get half a season in the big leagues in 2026 so in case there is a work stoppage and no season in 2027 we're not still sitting here at the start of 2028 (which MIGHT not be until mid summer) and wondering what we've got with the kid 5 years post draft.
  19. I am always amused by the "after the 2023 season was the time to go all in by spending big money" fable. Was this team poised for more at that point? Absolutely. Where would you have spent that money? Take a look at the team as constructed at that point. Would you have replaced Correa? With more of the same? Not really. Kepler coming off .816 OPS? Probably not. You don't make the playoffs in 2023 without Solano and you have Kirilloff waiting in wings. Julien coming off .839 OPS and 7th place in the ROY voting? I suppose you could have replaced Buxton. But I'd hope you'd be smarter than that. Gallo in LF is obvious but you have Larnach waiting in the wings. Royce at 3B? Are you TRYING to get fired? Not willing to move forward with Jeffers? OK. Your 4th best starter on that team is now a top 10 in MLB guy. I suppose you COULD have gotten in on the Ohtani sweepstakes. Got news for ya boys and girls. He wasn't coming here for a BILLION dollars. Matt Chapman? I suppose you could have pulled the plug on Lewis. I suppose you could have re-signed Gray. Has he REALLY been better than any of your big three since he left? If you go by straight WAR SWR has been better since he left. I'll wait.
