Achter has a good straight change up. He should throw it a lot more often. There was a closer here in San Diego named Trevor Hoffman who earned a living with a good straight change.
I'm 56. Now the squirrels watch me, and eat my prunes when I'm not looking. In the distance I see vultures circling, or maybe that's just flies... I waved my hand and they're still there. Vultures.
Does it seem like McHugh actually has stuff that good? I'm seeing a resemblance to Tyler Duffey's game. Good mix of curves with a well-placed but underwhelming heater.
When was the last time anybody saw Torii Hunter even swing the bat hard, a month ago? Six weeks? He's swinging like he has no legs and his back is sore. Sit the old man down, put Buxton in there. At least Buxton might beat out a grounder.
Exactly. If Mauer comes in high like an NFL linebacker, Conger (or Mauer) maybe spends the next couple weeks in a hospital. The new rule is supposed to avoid the bone-breaking collisions. The umpires failed everybody on that call.
if they are going to interpret the rule that way, then bring back the huge collisions, the Pete Rose one, the Bo Jackson one - the new rule protects nobody if you allow Conger to position himself as he did.
Where Conger positioned himself, straddling the foul line, he made it inevitable that fielding the ball would involve blocking Mauer's path to the plate. Thus, I call baloney on that ruling.
You know who else is a great announcer? Jim Kaat. Still works for MLB Network, I think. Kaat is one of those guys that makes announcing seem so easy, anybody could do it...until you try to do it as well as Kaat.
The fish-head general sniffs the air. Is this a trap?? His fins flail nervously as he looks about, suspicious. Fish-head generals are good at spotting traps!
Assuming Nolasco comes back "healthy" next spring, I'd consider adding him to the bullpen as a middle reliever. The way he peppers the zone from different angles, he might be able to confuse hitters fairly reliably for one or two innings. Pitching fewer innings might keep him from breaking down again. Just trying to figure out how to get some value out of the guy. I wonder if he could be an Eddie Guardado type closer...
Great write-up's Jeremy. Entertaining and informative. Twins have one of those "good" problems coming up. Hicks will allow them to give Buxton a rest, or Hunter a rest, or play whoever has the hot hand.
Guessing, but it could be that Arcia never really got over the hip injury that put him on the DL. Fear of re-injuring it could have taken the power out of his swing. We'll see next season.
