  1. Suzuki's got this. Pitch pattern!
  2. Too late, gotta stick with it...
  3. I'm not the biggest TR fan, but picking up Jepsen looks like it was a very good move. But I'll still miss Dr. Hu...
  4. Actually, I've got a great Ramen recipe that I call "Faux Pho." I will reveal this secret next game, if I remember.
  5. Buxton is lunging at the ball. Very awkward looking. Needs to keep his weight back and crouch lower, more like Ricky Henderson.
  6. Trevor May dropping Uncle Charlies like he's been taking notes from Tyler Duffey. Big benders from the bull pen!
  7. Trevor May looks really good. I'm glad Roy Smalley acknowledged his contributions and his development as a pitcher. May really has learned to nail the corners much better since he hit the pen.
  8. The one thing I really miss about Gomez is the unreasonable joy he gets from a simple fly ball catch in center field. The guy really knows how to enjoy every moment of baseball. Captain Chaos, Mr. Drama.
  9. I save my pro tips for the cool kids.
  10. The Twins are crapping out the worst bunts I've seen in years. National League pitchers do it better.
  11. Perkins threw the best sliders I've seen from him in a couple months.
  12. Sometimes you can find a little dark ball of something under the chicken. I think that's the liver, but I've never been sure...
  13. Duensing dominates. Skol Twinkies!
  14. You have done well, sir. To get the full 10 of 10 from such a meal, make another! Actually, I spice 'em up with a few shakes of Tony Cachere Creole Seasoning. Ever notice that the fried chicken is greasy and nasty, but almost irresistible? I figure it's the spermaceti...
  15. Stir those potatoes sir, or risk the consequences of inhomogeneous distribution of heat, flavor, and texture!
  16. A weighty problem that we have all faced at one time or another, and another in our lives. And another. I hear rumors that some people deviate from these instructions regarding plastic film, but that's just hearsay. Personally I never deviate from instructions. Another important question about Hungry Man TV dinners: We have seen the price of crude oil oscillate dramatically this year, yet the price of Hungry Man has remained essentially unchanged. Given the amount of oil left in the bottom of the tin, how is this possible?
  17. Eduardo Nunez seems to get better the more he's benched. Odd...
  18. So, the Twins get to play the Astros, but Perkins isn't available, Sano has a hammy... Where's the power supposed to come from? Escobar?
  19. Sure he could close, and he'd probably dominate. But Trevor May is a big, strong, young, talented pitcher that could develop into an excellent starter. Before you make him a reliever, you better exhaust all your other options, which is what the Twins did before they stuck May in the pen this season. Trevor May has been an extremely good soldier by going to the bull pen when the team needed a reliever. He went there and proceeded to become the most reliable arm in the pen. He should be rewarded next spring with a legitimate shot to get back into the starting rotation. Besides, next spring the closer might be grabbed by Nick Burdi, J.T. Chargois or one of the other flame throwers.
  20. That staff has a good look. Nolasco's style of peppering the zone from different angles and speeds might be very effective in a short relief role, which also wouldn't be so hard on his aging body. My biggest concern for next year is Perkins, who 2 years in a row now has faded in the 2nd half due to injury. Why would anybody assume this won't happen next year? Milone might be a cagey move in the pen, like an insurance policy for when a starter goes down. Meanwhile, May needs to get back into the rotation, where he was rounding into a very solid mid-ro starter. Can't move him now because of urgent need for a dependable arm in the pen. Berrios seems like a no-brainer call-up for September, but TR's reasoning often departs from what is apparent to others...
  21. Sadly, I agree with your point about Turner. He needs a lot more work before he's ready to face mlb pitchers. Meanwhile, this upcoming series is liable to be a stark reminder why it's a good idea to have a catcher that can throw out more than 15 percent of base stealers.
  22. "Their strategy for scoring runs involves stealing tons of bases (they have swiped an AL-leading 97 bags) and hitting dingers (174). The two game plans (running wild and swinging for the fences) don’t jive considering that the kind of fence-clearing power could score a runner from any base." This could be an ominous sign for Mike Pelfrey, who has not looked good against aggressive base-stealing teams. Pelfrey seems to get flustered by the green light on first, and gets frustrated when they steal successfully. He starts rushing his motion, then loses command. Could be a long day Saturday. Also it doesn't help that Twins catchers almost never throw out base stealers. This is why I wanted to call up Stewart Turner, even if the guy's bat is a wet noodle. At least Turner has a legitimate gun behind the plate. Against a team like Houston, that could make more of a difference than a hole in the hitting lineup. Butera 2.0 would look pretty good right now.
  23. I will say this about Buxton. Today he did not look ready to hit major league pitching. He looked hesitant and uncertain, like a rookie with no plan at the plate. If you don't go up there with a plan, those major league pitchers will eat you up. Could be that Molitor was giving the kid a break from an embarrassing day. Could be he thought Herrmann had a home run in his bat. It is possible that Byron Buxton isn't quite ready to be a major league hitter. If it were earlier in the season, they might send him down to AAA for another month, but it's too late for that now. Buxton may scuffle at the plate for a while, maybe get platooned after Hicks gets back. We're still talking about a highly talented but somewhat raw young man whose game needs refinement. If 90 percent of the game is 60 percent mental, Buxton still needs to work on at least a third of that before he'll have his A game ready for prime time.
