  1. Buxton's plate discipline looked terrible today, but you're right, PH'ing Herrmann for Buxton did not make sense. Maybe Molitor had a notion that Herrmann was due...who knows.
  2. WTF, Esco?? I thought he was going to bluff that throw, then he actually threw it home. Free base.
  3. Freakin' ball just comes off Sano's bat like it's shot out of a canon.
  4. Sounds a bit like JJ Hardy. Except Escobar doesn't get hurt.
  5. No translator needed in the clubhouse: Eduardo Escobar is pretty happy.
  6. If Sano's drive doesn't hit that catwalk, it goes out into the last row of the upper deck. Hardest hit ball I've seen this year.
  7. Eduardo Escobar is making his case for starting SS... Good case.
  8. Escobar's second homer last night was the farthest I've seen him hit a ball. I wonder where it ranks among his longest?
  9. See, if the Twins make the playoffs, then Tommy Milone can go to the bullpen, where his fastball will gain a few mph and blow people away at 90...
  10. "X-Factor" might be a good nickname for Berrios. Certainly better than Barry. Jo-Jo might be okay... Jo-Jo Berries, no... J-Ber, no... This is tough. Might have to call him Jose for a while.
  11. Shock the world with Bender's mind-bending curve ball. Only if he promises to throw it at least 51 percent of the time, including first pitch and strikeout pitch. By the time DickBert finish deciding to call it a curve or a slider, the game will be over.
  12. I'd call up Berrios right now. First, he's reportedly a workout warrior with no signs of arm fatigue. Second, he could be part of a surprise Twins run in the playoffs this year. As fans, we follow baseball for the vicarious adventure of it. This is a chance to see JO Berrios have an early career adventure, to be part of a world-shocking, unexpected run by a newly emerging Minnesota Twins. I would love to see Berrios pitching, supported by Rosario, Buxton, Hicks, Kepler, Vargas, etc. Would that not be glorious? Would you not be entertained?? Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! Drummer, water skiing speed!
  13. We were all glad to see the Twins win Wednesday night, but I was baffled by the pitch selection of Tyler Duffey and Chris Herrmann. Why oh why would they opt for a slew of fastballs when Duffey's greatest weapon is his curve? I understand the notion of throwing what the hitters don't expect, and maybe they were sitting on his curve after watching Duffey dominate with tons of them in his past two games. But really... when hitters whiff so badly on your best pitch, why not keep throwing it? I'll grudgingly admit that Duffey did manage to get by with almost all fastballs for four innings. He does move it around the zone pretty well, and his two-seamer tails away really well on lefties. However, after a couple times through the lineup, the Rays were squaring up on Duffey's heat and blasting some frighteningly hard line drives. Part of the problem may have been posture. It seemed like Duffey was starting to stoop over a little in the fourth and fifth innings, which was making his fastballs flatten out and lowering his release point. Stand tall, young man! I'm also wondering if throwing so many curves was starting to make Duffey's elbow sore. Putting so much spin on a curve really torques that forearm. In one respect it was good to see Duffey survive without the curve, but it also highlights the need for him to find one more reliable pitch, perhaps a better change-up. Meanwhile, if it's not a physical issue, I would dearly like to see Tyler Duffey get back to pitching backwards. His curve is his best pitch. Use it!
  14. Yikes, I keep forgetting that! If Ervin Santana is gone for the playoffs, the Twins will need a good replacement. Nobody better than JO Berrios for that, so they might as well get him up now, so he can get past his first game jitters.
  15. Is Blaine Boyer really back to pitching well? My eyeballs saw a pretty dominant performance, after the first guy.
  16. Chris Herrmann wants to club one so bad, he can taste it.
  17. I want a t-shirt that says, "My prostate feels great! Ask me why!"
  18. Boyer's elbow looks very comfortable.
  19. Save us, Blaine Boyer, you're our only hope! Star Wars joke.
  20. Duffey is losing his posture, stooping a little. It's making his fastball flatten out. Meanwhile, Rosario catches that ball if he's playing LF. Eddie's faster than Robinson.
  21. Heh-heh, did you see that curve on Rivera? Duffey threw it at his elbow. Rivera moved his elbow away from the trajectory of the ball, just as it hooked left for a strike. Beautious.
  22. I can't even complain about Eddie being aggressive at the plate. For years the Twins have been too damned passive. Finally we get a guy like Eddie that looks to drive the ball. Eddie plays offensive offense. Putting pressure on the other team is what makes baseball fun to watch.
  23. Finally, Duffey brings out the big bender. When hitters miss your curve by four inches, there is no reason not to use it a lot. I'm still trying to figure out why Duffey was throwing so many fastballs. It's not a dominant pitch unless he uses it as an alternate to his curve. Maybe Duffey planned to use the heater the first time through the order, then change things up the second time through. Problem is, they started sitting on his heater, with nasty results.
  24. Where is Duffey's curve ball? He's throwing almost nothing but heat.
