  1. Jack Morris is right. Even a guy like Rodon will eventually realize that you just about can't pitch to Sano. That makes it all the more important that the Twins find somebody to bat behind Sano that's a legitimate home run threat, at least a 25 homer guy. That's Vargas, Arcia, or AB Walker. Unless you want to bat Dozier behind Sano...
  2. Sano makes baseball stadiums seem too small. I wonder if teams will bother to put a shift on for him. Like Ted Williams said, "They can't play me high enough."
  3. I'm predicting Alex Wimmers will be a late-bloomer. If he doesn't get on the 40, it would not surprise me if he got snagged. Top pitcher in the Big 10 coming out of college. Two years after TJ surgery. Them stars is almost all lined up.
  4. Shane Wahl pretty much nailed it, except to mention that EVERY TEAM has loads of young guys in their minor league systems that they think might just pan out. That's why they picked them, and that may be why Rule 5 danger is extremely overrated. It should not be used as an excuse to hold back Jose Berrios. Pick a handful of guys in AAA and AA to protect, and don't worry too much about the rest. Guys in A ball are too far away to put on any team's 40-man, or too young to matter. Other teams also have to worry about their own 40-man concerns, which may be why the actual amount of Rule 5 sniping is not that great. Meanwhile, no team is dumb enough to let a star talent get sniped, unless they're coming off injuries, which is how the Twins got Pressley and Graham. According to that scenario, which previously injured but talented guys would the Twins lose if they tried to sneak them past waivers? From the list of 19, I see Wimmers, Chargois, Micheal, Bard, Williams, Melotakis. Of those guys, I'd put Wimmers and Chargois on the 40. The rest aren't much better prospects than most teams already have. I still think Wimmers might be really good next season. The 19: Taylor Rogers, Adam Walker, Mason Melotakis, Felix Jorge, Zach Jones, J.T. Chargois, Engelb Vielma, Travis Harrison, Levi Michael, Luke Bard, Corey Williams, Brett Lee, Alex Wimmers, Cole Johnson, Dereck Rodriguez, Alex Muren, D.J. Baxendale, Tim Shibuya, and Randy Rosario.
  5. Great analysis, Parker. It's fascinating how a hip turn of a few inches or a few degrees has such a drastic impact on a hitter's ability to cover more of the strike zone. The other thing I noticed was that along with the increased gather from his hip turn, it allowed Sano to come through farther with his right hip on the follow through, which allowed him to drive his hands farther forward and outward, increasing the carry of the barrel through the zone. That extra carry will translate into more consistent contact and more opposite field power, as well as the ability to pull outside pitches. These small but important changes suggest a combination of coaching and Sano's great confidence in his own abilities. With his cool discipline at the plate and his awesome power, Miguel Sano already must be one of the most intimidating hitters in the league. And he's getting better. Yikes.
  6. I can hardly wait to throw some shapeless, nameless slab of meat on the grill for tonight's game. Extra E is bringing Big Bend tonight. Can he actually make the ball curve all the way back to his glove? That's what I heard..!
  7. There's actually a word for that: pterodactyl. Some of them have wings, too!
  8. Let this be a lesson to...um,... Jaimie Hersh?
  9. This Astros team has a lot of spirit. I like them.
  10. Odd pitch selection for O'Rourke. His bread and butter is supposed to be a devastating curve, but he was throwing mostly fastballs. Why?
  11. O'Rourke at 93! They were right; Astros were sitting on his curve.
  12. Ouch. Steal second now, just for payback!
  13. Low pressure situation for Buxton. He looks much more relaxed.
  14. Come on Herrmann, they're looking dead red. Don't cater to the opposition.
  15. Now let's see two change ups. They're clearly looking heat.
  16. "Quick. Quick." Advice for Altuve.
  17. I agree, I just couldn't think of a local IPA that fit the thought. Have an Arrogant Bastard? A heffenwiezen?
  18. That was a poor match-up for Houston. An old lefty with not much on the ball, versus Miguel Sano, one of the most powerful young rightie bats in the last 20 years.
  19. Don't run too hard, Miguel!
  20. That was funny. Perez did the full Tiant twist, then Mauer tattooed his nuthin' ball to center.
  21. Esco! He be bangin' it from the left side, bro!
  22. Man, Ervin Santana really fought hard to get that last out. Bravo. Ice pack and Miller time, baby.
  23. Time for Chris Herrmann to blast one.
  24. Now I'm leaning towards Duffey having a better curve.
