  1. It would be great to re-sign Correa. But I don't want the Twins to "Win" the offseason. They don't need the best players at each position to be successful. Personally, I think Dansby Swanson would be a nice fit here. I don't think we've seen his peak yet and is already very good. Sign him to a 6-7 year deal probably around $150M. He will be 29 to start 2023, and a 7 year contract brings him through his age 35 season. At some point he could be moved to another position of it needs to happen in his mid 30's. I'd love to see homegrown talent at SS, but Lewis can't stay healthy, Martin is a question mark and Lee hasn't seen a full pro season yet. And there is no guarantee any or all of them stay Shortstops. Signing Swanson and creating a SS log jam would be a good situation.
  2. I was wondering this same thing recently. I'm also wondering if this season doesn't work out well maybe they let one of them go. Falvey was the guy they brought in to essentially change the culture, thought process and develop a pitching pipeline in the organization and it worked early on. They are now using analytics and changed the structure of the org. Lavine seems to be the business/baseball guy. I would like to see how things worked out if Lavine was the THE guy at some point to see if he goes in and doesn't try to outsmart himself while still using the tools they have now.
  3. It's not 1992 anymore. Medical advancement's have come a long way since. There are NFL running backs who come back from multiple ACL tears and still play very well and have long successful careers. I think a shortstop in baseball can do it as well. Kiriloff is different, he had a surgery that basically cut out a section of bone in his arm. Maybe there have been people who have come back from that but I am not familiar with them or anyone who has had the surgery. The concern with Lewis is he has basically played a part of 1 season in the last 4 years. He has the skills and I personally don't think multiple ACL surgeries will be his downfall. He will either be a Major League shortstop or a major league outfielder. How great he becomes will not be decided by his injury. Again back to Kiriloff, his surgery could impact his career. It might effect his hitting and if Kiriloff can't hit he isn't anything special. His career is completely dependent on his ability to hit. A run of the mill ACL surgery isn't going to effect Lewis ability to hit a baseball the same way a bone reduction surgery will effect Kiriloff.
  4. Or, use the money they had for Correa and use it to sign a shortstop. I know they knew Correa was going to opt out, but there was a chance, a small one, that he stayed. If Correa got injured significantly he likely wouldn’t have opted out and the Twins would have been on the hook for the rest of his deal. So just use that cash and sign a top tier SS.
  5. Yeah, I was short-sighted on my comment. Arraez hitting along with satisfactory defense at 2nd base is likely All-Star level for years to come.
  6. I'm not high on moving him to the outfield. I would like an outfielder, even a 4th outfielder to have more power. I would be interested in what type of player he could be as a 2nd baseman. Polanco has been breaking down and may be time to move from him in the near future. They lose some power but if he figures out the OBP and Average piece of hitting in the next 9 months it would be nice to have a right side of the infield (assuming Arraez sticks as primary 1st baseman) hitting .300+ with a .350-.375 OBP with lots of Extra base hits.
  7. He is a solid pitcher who likely won't be out there throwing complete game shutouts every other start. However, if he can stay healthy and consistently give them 6+ innings while giving up 3 runs or so I call that a very good reliable pitcher. Many teams have built pitching staffs around guys with high 3 low 4 ERAs who stabilize the rotation. They can then be supplemented by bringing in the occasional Stud Ace to have around for a few years.
  8. If Correa continues to have a down season for the remainder of the year and the Twins still make the playoffs and dare I say, Advance a round even with Correa playing below his standards will he not opt out? I'd take that as a Twins fan and hope years 2-3 are vintage Correa.
  9. That would be quite the pay cut...
  10. These pages can be very frustrating to read. I keep reading, "Twins gave up a lot to get Mahle". But 2 days ago people were begging the Twins to be aggressive and make trades to make them better. It seems the only way people would truly be happy is if the Twins only traded office supplies for Mahle. Maybe we as fans aren't used to actually making meaningful trades at the deadline and giving up prospects. Yeah, it sucks the Twins won't be able to possibly get to see the prospects possibly become meaningful contributors to the major league club, but that isn't guaranteed. I seem to remember a few years ago when they Traded Palacios for Odorizzi people were upset. Well, Palacios didn't develop as fast as people thought he would, and is now back in the org but still in AAA. That's my long way of saying, I like the trade and while it stinks to give up prospects, that is what good teams do at the deadline. It's better than being on the other end of the deal.
  11. 6 Runs in July. 5 of them in three games in early July 1-4 (4 of them were Twins runs). Since July 4, 1 Earned Run. Not very concerned here.
  12. Dyson was always a reliever, and if I recall the Twins were upset with San Francisco because they thought they may have hid an injury from them before the trade as well. This is different, a reliever on the upswing, whereas Dyson was known commodity who had likely reached his peak.
  13. Good trade for both teams in my opinion. Stinks for Orioles fans to sell when the team is finally not awful. But realistically they weren't going to make the playoffs most likely and if they did would probably be out in wild card round. Now Orioles may have added a nice rotation piece for their improving team next year and beyond and Twins get what is needed for bullpen now and in future.
  14. I like the trade. Povich was a nice prospect, but now Twins have another reliable pen arm (Jax, Duran, Lopez) back end. Was Cano on 40 man?
  15. The Vasquez trade irks me. Twins need catching help badly and there was a one there for the taking. They Twins didn't make the move, which scares me they aren't going to do much today. I think the Twins are close to being very good but probably not this year. However, a few supplements for this year and a starter that is controllable for next year is worth giving up some prospects to get into the playoffs where anything could happen.
  16. I disagree with a lot of this article. They signed Correa so they planned to win. Also, Correa was signed very late if I recall, so they were at a payroll of just over $100M when he signed. So Correa didn't eat into the budget, they had money to spend and were not getting the guys they were after, weren't targeting them or some other reason. Planning to fail was not the their plan.
  17. I was writing up a similar type of thing yesterday then my job got in the way I couldn't finish. But my hope was to go after a front line starter like Lopez from Miami and give up something like Steer, Larnach & Encarnacion-Strand. They need hitters Twins need pitchers and in my opinion good hitting prospects are somewhat disposable for the right pitchers in trades. That would get them a nice top of rotation take Bundy's spot for sure. Then I was hoping they would move on to the bullpen help and get two arms that are better than what they currently have, which if you read this message board shouldn't be too hard. But either or both Bard and Moore would be great and Nick laid that out nicely. If that would come to fruition it would hopefully stabilize the pen and rotation.
  18. I would target Pablo Lopez in a trade with Miami. He is under control through 2024 could be a top of rotation type starter and we have a surplus of what Miami is likely looking for, Bats. I would lead with Larnach and Steer for starters. I would sting to trade Larnach but outfield bats are more replaceable than top end starters. If Miami wants more look to the lower minors for some of the exciting outfielders that are moving up the prospect rankings to give them additional future prospects. For fun I would offer them Sano and eat the rest of his contract. That gives Miami 2 young hitters and one who might find a spark with a change of scenery. Kiriloff and Miranda would be off limits unless they are blown away.
  19. Who are the current 40 man roster guys that are on the bubble to be taken off to make room for the guys above, but would have value to other teams in a trade?
  20. If that were the deal on the table and it was the Twins option to accept or reject and it was my call, I would make that trade. Solidifies the rotation for this year and next year and even though there are some good prospects in that deal it's the price of buy a top of rotation starter. That being said, I think the Reds would want more of a headliner in that deal and I don't see that. New top 3 in Rotation when healthy would be Castillo, Ryan, Gray.
  21. Lance Lynn didn't want to be here if I recall. Wasn't he a signed after spring training started? That was the weird offseason where no one was being signed and lots of guys signed late and people were yelling collusion.
  22. "Hey Padres, we have a nice bullpen arm, his name is Emilio." "Have you heard of him before?"
  23. How does this compare to other front offices? Are they usually performing in B-A range? Or are the Twins hitting on a better rate than their peers?
  24. I agree with lots of the comments. What I would do is work out the framework of a deal to get Montas. Then work with his agents to get him an extension he agrees before the trade consumates. It’s the Twins way, I’m not sure what that deal would look like, but get buy out his remaining two years and add 2-3 more years. He doesn’t have the history to demand huge contract yet, but one more year might get him past the Berrios deal. Trade/sign for 4 years wiping our 22-23, for a 4 year $10M in 2022, $12M in 23, then offer $15M for each year of 24 and 25. He gets a shot at free agency at 32. So he gets $52M guaranteed before he hits free agency.
  25. The Twins are diluting his value. On one hand they are saying $80MM is a stretch. But when they turn around and try to trade him any team looking to acquire him will point to that saying he is worth the equivalent of just less than Dexter Fowler if they are going by salary. Just offer him his worth and if he doesn’t live up to the salary oh well, It happens, you can’t hit on a big time signing every time. Sometimes you do other times they get hurt, or just don’t play well enough.. in this case most reasonable fans would be ok as long as they paid him and he got hurt or his play slipped. Letting him go will not be ok with most reasonable fans.
