  1. It's kind of amazing how similar Altuve and Dozier's numbers are up to this point (Games/Plate Appearances/2B/3B/BB%). Dozier has 16 more HR's, but Altuve has 51 more singles (which almost mirrors the additional number of strikeouts Dozier has (Dozier has 43 more K's). Their RBI numbers mirror at 91 as well (I'm pretty sure Altuve hits third, but for some unknown reason, Jacque Jones Dozier is still leading off). With the .346/.409 AVG/OBP, I'd be hard-pressed to not give the Silver Slugger to Altuve (especially considering the more balanced season-long stats), but I really want Dozier get win... Give Altuve the MVP.
  2. I don't care about what Ricky does or if he has a crazy season post-Twins like the Vanimal had. I do care about having to give up Meyer to get out of Ricky's terrible contract. High upside doesn't come cheap, and I don't like selling it cheaply until I'm sure it's gone full James Hoey (and you should never go full James Hoey).
  3. I'm still hopeful this is part of the growing process. If I had to guess, he's finding out some flaws in his hitting approach and trying to fix them at the plate. Like syndes said. You fix a swing in practice, at the plate should be muscle memory. Guys like this (and maybe Berrios) are just seeing their first major hurdle, and need to adjust. Hopefully, once the mechanical fixes are in, the results will show......
  4. I'm not smart enough to know the answer to this, but I've always wondered about the generation of speed based upon the relative weight transfer in contrast to leg drive off the rubber. It would seem to me that higher rear leg drive would actually kill the natural downward plane of the pitch vs. the general action created by weight transfer down hill.
  5. No one is ever quite as smart as they are when they agree with you....
  6. I'd rather have Delmon Young back playing center field working his magic on the hibachi and informing patrons of his personal dislikes......
  7. "Dereck Rodriguez was tagged with the loss in his Fort Myers debut, despite 7.0 innings of one hit ball. He gave up two runs, walked two, and struck out six." Anybody know what's clicking for this guy? Since mid July he's been on a tear.
  8. Brock, you must believe in good to receive good....aw who am I kidding....anybody know what Phil Dumatrait is doing right now.....
  9. Maybe not overcome his current problem; but maybe to build a little confidence that he's in the right place over here and he can hit in the US. Then attack the real problem.
  10. The Twins teaching over aggressiveness at the plate is one of the few things I never thought I would hear a complaint about (I'm not arguing with your point).
  11. I'm most concerned with the Pohlad's making Antony's decisions for him at the deadline [shudder].
  12. I agree, but I think the problem is organizationally systemic. The owners continue to retain or allow the retention of people outside their positions of strength (and don't seem to recognize the issue if they keep backing Ryan). To be clear, I actually like Ryan and have defended many of his moves, but this year and some of the ongoing issues are changing my mind. However, both you and Nick are correct in the details are controlled by these individuals, but the larger concern is the track history of the replacements. The organizations replaces (albeit few and far between) personnel with other personnel that seem to be out of their strong suits, and this is my fear with moving on. They will not seek someone (or multiple people) with people well suited to meet the position. The system is really struggling with Peter principle (Ryan hand picks Smith...) Hope I did a better job of explaining my point.
  13. I tend to be a GM apologist here, but my intuition is that it's not Ryan or Molitor directly, it's an organizational fault of not properly identifying and utilizing talents: Quick Examples: Front Office/Management: 1. Promote Bill Smith to GM when he clearly was strong in non-player related baseball aspects. 2. Use Ryan in a position other than roving talent evaluation after Smith crashed and burned. 3. Hire Molitor who was more of a special situation coach (stealing, fielding, hitting). Players 1. Not using platoons. 2. May, Meyer, Tonkin, Dean and any other pitcher they use for the wrong spots/places. 3. Sano in the outfield (we can squabble here due to roster crunches). There are plenty of other example of using talent in the wrong spot. I have a problem with the organization misusing talent and placing people outside of their positions of strengths. It's time for a visit from the Bobs to look at the entire problem and start over. This one's on the owners.
  14. For the sake of my kids and marriage, I've cut back about 60%. I can't handle the rage/depression switching. It's brutal. I wish I had a better word.
  15. If the brass/players are feeding Souhan this trash, where's the sign up sheet for fire everybody, because that would be the tip of the iceberg for me.
  16. Polanco down; free Beresford......seriously, what's that guy got to do to get a cup of coffee this year?
  17. With a stache like that, why don't we just go ahead and call the plumber?
  18. Buxton's floor is a slightly below average hitting gold glove outfielder. He's not going anywhere, anytime soon. Unlike Gomez and Ortiz, all the stuff I've seen is that he's a humble kid who takes instruction. Let him get kicked around at AAA and let's see what he's doing by July. Sometimes you have to fail to see how to succeed (or some other motivational speech like that). My call: .280 average, 10-15 homers, and gold glove caliber defense in two years (2018 all the way.......................................................
  19. Um, Seth, when you make the trip to the great white North, you're supposed to tell us in advance so that we may mob you during your public appearance....or just say hi.
  20. No worries; I understood your point. I guess in my experience of bringing my boys along to me with my less than reputable beer-league softball games, the good has outweighed the bad (and I've been able to educate and expose them to "teaching moments"). In my head, I'll just go on idealistically thinking that the boy wasn't hearing/seeing too much.....and I'm probably being naive.
  21. Here's my take away: 1. Guy gets to play baseball and makes a ton of money; 2. Guy gets lucky enough to bring his son with him to share in the joy; 3. Guy goes undercover to shine a light on some of the worst scum on the planet; 4. Guy is told you can no longer have son with you; 5. Guy weighs options, realized he made enough money/wants to keep spending time with son, calls it a day. Makes sense to me. Then again, I quit a high paying job to do a lower paying job so I could spend time with my kids. I guess I relate....except the undercover thing...good on those two for that.
  22. I don't buy the bad spring check that's been handed to him. My guess (emphasis on guess) is that he was working on pitches, and he's getting squeezed as he has options. We'll find out fairly quickly when he starts pitching at AAA and the results show. I would have been happy with him as a long reliever, but I'm also guessing that the Twins are going to gamble on not exposing certain people to waivers and if they struggle, the long season won't hurt them too much when they drop them off the 40-man (Tonkin, Fien, Nolasto, I'm looking at you), Duffey will likely have a role. Based upon his history, he'll start until he proves ineffective.
  23. 88-92: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/8/26/9208253/who-is-minnesota-twins-rookie-tyler-duffey
  24. "If Nolasco makes the rotation I will...." Call Cole DeVries and ask if we could coax him out of the real estate business.
  25. I'm curious. The OP wrote another opinion piece on Vikings Journal "hating to break things to us" about NORV! under the blog title "Minnesota Groan". Any opinions on the Wild? Especially ones that state someone isn't working hard? I don't think many (if anyone) likes the Mauer contract. But had they not paid him close to market value to retain him, the fan base would have revolted. The only question now is whether he plays well enough this season to keep his spot instead of paying him to DH or ride the pine. If he remains a sub .280 hitter with a lowered on-base percentage, and keeps the starting spot, then I'll start asking questions.
