There are several starting pitchers in the HOF without 200 Wins: Dizzy Dean, Sandy Koufax, Lefty Gomez, etc. I believe Sandy Koufax was the last starter to get into the HOF with less than 200 wins in his career. Yes I understand that but I think Koufax was a special case, 3 Cy Youngs and an MVP. Dizzy and Lefty were a long long time ago. That is why I initially said that if Santana can put together another Cy Young year he would be a shoe in.
What's the over/under for the runs scored by the Twins? I'll take the under @ 8 runs. So far on this road trip (6 games) the Twins have scored 15 runs and 7 of those came in 1 game. So far the have scored: 3,2,1,7,1,1

While it true that Baker will miss at least half of next year, his guaranteed salary will reflect that. His salary for 2013 will be less than $3M and probably closer to $1M (plus incentives). If Pavano doesn't retire, he will get at least $5M next year.
It's too bad that didn't realize that wins wasn't the most important factor when determining the Cy Young Winner until 2009. The only stat that Colon beat Santana in was wins. Santana only had a 16 win season but he was 2nd in ERA, 1st in SO, WHIP and K/9.
If he can put together a 3rd Cy Young (which we all know he should have already), he would be a shoe in hall of famer. He is already in rare company (only 16 pitchers have won multiple cy young awards), a third would put him among 8 others with 3 or more. All eligible pitchers with 3 or more Cy Youngs were 1st ballot HOF'ers.
I've seen this many times. Why don't people feel that Gibson will be ready by the beginning of the season in 2013? Personally I think he has an excellent shot to make the starting rotation out of ST mainly because: 1. Prior to requiring TJ Surgery, he most likely would've been part of the rotation coming out of ST in 2012. 2. By April, he will be 18 months post surgery. Baker is the one that won't be involved at all until June at the earliest. I don't think health will be the reason Gibson doesn't start the season in the majors. He has 21 starts in AAA and I doubt he'll add to that total in 2012. After not pitching for so long, I think the Twins would want to bring him back slowly and make sure he faces increasingly difficult levels of competition in actual games before bringing him up. He will be doing that in the AFL this winter.

Actually neither method uses an option. An option is used when a player IS on the 40-man roster. The player is sent on OPTIONAL assignment to the minor leagues. A player is usually DFA'd when he hasn't cleared waivers yet. When they "outright" a player it means they have cleared waivers. Also, Thrylos mentioned that there 4 types of waivers. And the outright waivers would get them out from under Blackburn's contract if he would refuse the assignment.
Just to play devil's advocate, why would/should the medical staff examine the elbow when the player is complaining about a shoulder issue? There is a major difference in location between rotator cuff weakness and a bruised humorous. Also if Pavano has had it before, couldn't have brought up his opinions with the doctors?
I believe that there is a 75% chance that Baker will be back next year. They are obviously not going to pick up is option, but he has stated that he would like to return. Also the market for him isn't going to be that great due to his injury. 75% is pretty optimistic. You are absolutely right that there is no way the Twins pick up his option, and I also have heard that he has an interest in returning for less... but the big question is(and I don't think anybody but the FO knows this)... Do the Twins even want him back? I wish him the best in his career and wouldn't be upset if he did come back and pitch as well or better than he used to. I just think a lot of different pieces have to line up for it to happen. Actually 75% might be conservative. With Baker's injury situation he is the typical low cost, high risk, high reward type of player that they seem to covet in FA.

I doubt this is the case. I'm not saying that he wasn't promoted, I'm saying that he definitely wasn't promoted last night. The Twins would have to make an additional move in order to promote Carson as he isn't on the 40-man roster and it is currently full.
Terry Ryan was on before the ballgame last night and said that Parmelee will stay in the minors so he can play everyday rather than be called up and get sporatic play. Unless someone gets hurt it doesn't sound like he'll be up. The problem with this theory is that most of the minor leagues seasons end the 1st week of September. So if Parmelee isn't called up in September, he won't be playing at all.
Riverbrian, with ESPN1500 the Twins actually had the best of both worlds. They were paid $1M/yr for the broadcast rights plus the got the in game ad revenue. What they are hoping to do by switching is to increase the audience for their own station.
There are 2 differences between the Parmelee and Ramos situations. Ramos was behind a guy that just signed an 8 year contract extension and Parmelee is behind a guy with 1 year left. Also Parmelee has options remaining whereas Ramos didn't. He would've had to stay on the ML roster last season and he was too good to sit on the bench and serve as the backup catcher. It was the right thing to trade Ramos, whether or not you agree with the return is a valid argument.
I know that Thrylos' thread was closed and if TPTB decide to delete this one as well that is fine. I think that the Property of Twins was appropriate in regards to Delmon and it had nothing to do with race. I believe that players are Property of their clubs until they have achieved enough service time to become free agents. Up until that time, the club owns their rights and it is their choice whether or not the players are a part of the team. After they become free agents the players can the control and can choose which team they want to play for, thus they are referred to as members.
You are mistaken. Only 4 of his 7 starts have been Quality Starts. Most of the time it was due to not pitching 6+ innings. Only once has he given up more than 3 runs in an outing.
If they just limited Diamond to 5 innings for the remainder of the season they wouldn't have to go to a 6-man rotation. 5 innings for 10 starts would give him 199 for the season.
Last season Diamond pitched 162 Innings between the minors and majors.
So far he has tossed 149 innings this year.
With the number of games remaining he could accumulate 10 more starts which would put him at around 220 innings by seasons end if they don't shut him down at some point.
Do you think that they will let him pitch through the end of the season or will they shut him down around 200 IPs?
I believe that they will shut him down when rosters expand in September to give Hendricks and/or Walters some innings.
Forbes doesn't estimate future revenues. That $213M number is the revenue for 2011 which was the same as 2010. With attendance down 10% and people spending less I expect the 2012 revenue to drop to $200M.
