  1. If the argument was 13 pitchers I would agree with you, but since most teams carry 12 pitchers it kind of blows your argument out of the water.
  2. To be more specific, it was a foul bunt that hit Carroll after he stepped out of the box.
  3. Maybe, by competitive means that they will still lose but they will be close tight games. I went to 5 games last year and they lost all 5. 3 of the games were so bad that I left early as they weren't fun to watch. It was the 1st time that I've ever left early.
  4. It depends on how it is handled. If the player is sent on a rehab assignment, he is still technically on the DL and service time would accrue.
  5. This is correct. That is why during ST the first cuts are players on the 40-man roster that are definitely not going to make the team. They don't want to risk them getting hurt in ST and being forced to put them on the Major league DL. It's not that big of a deal if it is a minor injury, but they would lose a whole year of service time if it is a season ending injury.
  6. He threw way more than 15 pitches. For ST, the gameday pitch counts are not accurate. All AB are 1 pitch unless they are Strikeouts (3) or Walks (4). There are exceptions that they have to account for such as Pelfrey's 1 Ball was a passed ball on Mauer.
  7. First, I didn't have any issues listening to K-Twin in the car as I was driving to St. Cloud. Second, I've heard of reception problems before when you are too close to the tower (I know it seems silly). A friend of mine has a terrible time picking up AM1280 - The Patriot and he lives about 1/2 mile from the tower. Third, since I live outstate and have to rely on the TIBN, which is unreliable as some stations don't come in and some don't carry games that they are supposed, I spend the $20 for At Bat and stream the audio.
  8. Considering Swarzak and Slama would have extremely different roles in the BP, I highly doubt that Slama would be taking Swarzak's slot on the 40-man or 25-man rosters.
  9. I don't see any ignore feature. Where is it and how do I use it?
  10. Under Gardy, the Twins generally have not skipped starters so the #1 guy gets the same number of starts as the #5 guy.
  11. The they I was referring to was MLB.com, but when I looked again I noticed that while the do have the Comp picks for Lohse and Bourn slotted they don't have them numbered (hasn't been updated for Bourns' signing) so you are correct that the Twins' 2nd round pick will be 43rd overall. 12. Nope, still 42. They already had Atlanta's comp pick figured in.
  13. Ice Dragon all the way.
  14. While I agree with most of you that Hicks should spend some time @ AAA, your argument regarding the extra year of team control is based on the assumption that he spends the entire year with the Twins. He could start the year with Minnesota and show that he isn't ready (like Dozier and Parmelee) and get sent down for a month or two and they would still gain that extra year of control.
  15. While pitching in the minors is the same wear and tear on the pitcher it doesn't have the same effect on the bullpen.
  16. They offered Santana and Hunter top dollar contracts. The issue was the Twins wouldn't commit to the # of years that they wanted. We offered Hunter 3 years @ $50+. Every other team was offering 4. Hunter wanted 5, but no body was offering that. We was about to agree with the White Sox when the Angels came out of no where and offered him 5 years. IIRC we offered Santana 4yr/$85M, he wanted more years and the Twins rightfully refused.
  17. This! Injuries happen and can't be accounted for in the value of the contract. When Mauer has been healthy he certainly performs up to the level of his contract. The list of the 15 worst contracts are of people who even when healthy don't or won't live up to the value of the contract.
  18. First, only a 60-DL stint opens up a spot on the 40-man, the standard 15-day doesn't. Second, I think you put a player on the 15-day DL towards the end of ST, but you can't use the 60-Day DL until spring training. Third, when using the 60-Day DL you have to fill the open 40-man spot immediately. Since Swarzak is a reliever, if he is working out by the beginning of March and throwing with out pain he will probably be good to go by the time the season starts. If it isn't until mid-March he will probably be DL'ed and sent to extended ST for rehab.
  19. I assume that that the 2 you are referring to were Hardy and Bartlett. With both of those, I don't recall Gardy disliking either of them. He did have an issue with Garza and he and Bartlett were packaged to bring in Young, but I don't think that Gardy had an issue with Bartlett. Gardy on the other hand did have in issue with Hardy, and that he was too slow and often injured.
  20. The failure to develop a MI is NOT on Gardenhire it is on the Minor League coaches. Generally by the time the reach the majors they should be mostly there and just need a little polishing/fine tuning.
  21. Other than the "investment" differences between Gibson and Pelfrey, the main reason that they will be treated differently is that Gibson is a rookie that has only topped 100 innings once in his career while Pelfrey is a 7yr veteran that has thrown 184+ innings/year since 2008 before the injury last year.
  22. I would like to see 100 games at C, 50 games @ 1B/DH and 12 days off.
  23. Jokin, I have a question for you: How can single game ticket sales be down 19% when the haven't gone on sale yet?
  24. Those are the Opening Day Roster, which was correct at $94M. Cot's $100M includes prorated signing bonuses and changes that happened during the season.
