  1. You must not follow too many Twins games. Gardy throws players under the bus in public all the time (especially those he doesn't like).
  2. Prior to Gardy being hired, Molitor was the #1 choice and the job was his if he wanted it. But at the time Molitor wanted spend time with his family. Now his kids are grown and he may want to get back involved with the club on a full time basis. It was the same story with Brunansky. Why do you think that he suddenly came back to coach 3 years ago? His kids grew up and moved out so he wanted something to do, so he came back to the Twins and moved up the system as a hitting coach.
  3. I have no problem with Gardy and feel that he has done a pretty decent job with what he has been given (most of the time), but I feel that it is a time for a change.
  4. I believe the Twins' got what they expected from Correia. I also believe that they like what they see from Pelfrey and will re-sign him. Remember the Pelfrey is only 18 months removed from TJ Surgery. Is performance is very similar to Nathan's (struggled the 1st half of the season and performed very well in the 2nd half).
  5. Another advantage that Marvel has is that it's universe consists of real places instead of the fictional world of DC Comics (Smallville, Gotham City, Metropolis, Star City, etc.).
  6. I believe that this will be a "free" option, assuming that Mastro get's recalled after 9/1. IIRC a option is recouped if a player spends less then 20 days on optional assignment.
  7. I'm guessing that Gibson won't be shut down until 9/1, that would give him 4 more starts. With the way he has pitched that would give him 20-25IP which would put him at 160 combined.
  8. While your point is valid, can you name one instance where a team claimed a player that was performing poorly and has been for a while? I can just hear a GM saying: "This guy hasn't done much all year and has done nothing for the last month, but I think he will turn it around and all I will have to do is take on the remaining $5M of his salary to get him." It wouldn't take to many of those gambles for that GM to find himself unemployed.
  9. You are missing a major point. If a player clears waivers then you can talk to all teams to work out a trade. But if a player is claimed, then you can only negotiate with the team that claimed him. You have more bargaining power after a player clears waivers. While it is true that if you can't work out a deal you can pull the player back. But you can only do that once. If try to put him through waivers is irrevocable and you have Zero bargaining power if he is claimed again. The only time that you hope a player gets claimed is when that player has a really bad contract and it is a total salary dump (think Alex Rios with the White Sox a couple of years back).
  10. I believe that you are correct.
  11. Both Chicago and Minnesota have an off day today, but the rule preventing teams from playing more than 20 days in a row forces them to play a D/H tomorrow. Yesterday was the White Sox's 20th straight game. Due to the make-up game with the Met's on 8/19, the Twins' won't have a day off until 8/26. Which implies if the played the game today, the Twins' would have a stretch of 27 games without a day off. I understand the reason for the rule, but they should allow exceptions for make up games. What is more wearing to the players, playing 2 games in 1 day or playing 27-30 days without an off day? Over the long hall, you can give players rest as needed but you can't really do that with a Doubleheader.
  12. Since he was placed on the 40-man after least season, the option for 2013 has already been burned.
  13. I don't know if he was working on it, but IIRC he is currently out with an injury.
  14. A QO is way too much for Morneau. He would take that in a heartbeat. People figure that Morneau will get a 1 year incentive laden deal with a $1-2M base. At best he would get a Willingham type deal (3yr/$21M).
  15. It's Mauer waiting at home plate to congratulate Morneau after hitting a 2 run dinger (with Mauer on base of course).
  16. With the current roster changes, the Twins only have 2 true OF on the roster (Hicks,Thomas). The last OF spot will be manned by the likes of Doumit, Herrmann and possibly Colobello.
  17. Actually Brock the "Average Schmuck" has more firearm experience then the trained law enforcement or security personnel. Many law enforcement personnel only ever shoot their weapons when the have to re-qualify, whereas the average schmuck who decides to carry a firearm practice on a regular basis.
  18. Since Fielder hadn't reached 1st at the time of the wild throw by Florimon, in actuality he was awarded 2 bases as well. So both players were awarded 2 bases for Florimon's wild throw. That makes sense now, Thanks
  19. I have a question about Saturday's (06-15) game against the Tigers. Situation: Cabrera on 2B, Fielder hits a grounder to Florimon (SS), Cabrera holds and Florimon throws the ball into the dugout. Fielder is awarded 2B and Cabrera is given Home Plate. Why was Cabrera given 2 bases?
  20. IIRC, Plouffe can't be activated until Saturday. Personally, I think something is wrong with Burton and he should be DL'ed to make room for Plouffe. With the starters generally pitching deeper and with every Monday off, they can drop back down to 12 pitchers.
  21. I believe that most of the time when Bert isn't covering the Twins it is due to his HOF obligations.
  22. While Diamond did cruise through 5 innings, he got hit hard in the 6th and his PC was up to 95 after the inning. I had no problem pulling Diamond after the 6th. I wanted to add that while I wish they let Diamond go out for the 7th, with how Seattle was hitting everything hard in the 6th (luckily it was at somebody), there was no point in ruining his great outing just to give the BP some rest. That being said, I wished that Gardy didn't feel the need to use 3 relievers. Especially with the off day, I would've like to have Pressly or Roenicke pitch 2 innings and have Perkins finish (if the felt he needed the work).
  23. Brock, what happened to the "Series Preview" posts where we can get a glance that the scheduled matchups?
  24. I think the Twins as well as other teams are just trying to teach hitters to go with the pitch. Maybe it is a communication issue. Dozier is a good case. He had early success when pulling the ball. So he starts trying to pull everything. Pitchers notice this and start pitching away and with Dozer trying to pull everything he hits a ton of grounders to the 2B. Until Dozer can adjust and start driving those pitches the other way, it won't change. It's about using all fields to keep pitchers honest.
