  1. Because the 40 man roster is/was full. By agreeing to a minor league contract, and a gentlman's agreement, it allows the team time to make room for him.
  2. While it is technically true that the Yankee's don't have infinite money, for all practical purposes they do. They have $1B (yes that is a B as in Billion) in revenue, so they can spend as much as they desire. Their only true limiting factor is their stated desire to get below the luxury tax threshold.
  3. While that is a nice sentiment, we already have the guy who taught Santana his change-up (Cuellar).
  4. Not quite correct. Pelfrey hasn't officially signed his contract yet so he is not on the roster. But when both Suzuki and Pelfrey sign their contracts 1 person will need to be removed from the 40-man roster.
  5. Nope. Toward's the end of ST they can just put him on the DL. Happens every year.
  6. The Orioles had priority over the Cubs. So if they wanted him they could've had him. All 14 AL teams passed on Hendriks.
  7. Who gets let go to make room for Pelfrey? Do they let go of another pitcher or does a position player get the boot?
  8. I believe that Team B can waive a player pretty much immediately. Yes, Team A could re-claim the player after he is claimed and waived by Team B, but he would still have to clear waivers before he can be sent down.
  9. You are correct about the waiver process. But Hendricks has an option left so they can send him to AAA. He will only have to pass through waivers again if the Cubs need a spot on the 40-man roster and DFA him.
  10. It is being reported that the Cubs have claimed Liam Hendricks.
  11. Not necessarily. He was DFA'd on the 5th. They have 10 days to decide what to do with him. So he doesn't have to be placed on waivers until the 11th or 12th to allow enough time for the waiver process to complete in the 10 day DFA window.
  12. Sano has been above AA yet. While his power remained when he moved up to AA, every other part of his offense went down. He has to show improvement before being moved up, plus he defense still needs a lot of work.
  13. I have to laugh at anybody who thinks that Sano and Buxton will be with the Twins before September 2014.
  14. I believe the correct total is $810.
  15. Why would you think that? TK was promoted to Interim Manager in 1986 after Ray Miller was let go after being added to the Major League coaching staff in 1983.

  17. Well they just completed the "easy" portion of the schedule with a stellar 1-5 record.
  18. As I understand it, Molitor DIDN"T want to be manager at that time. The job was his if he wanted it, he didn't, so the hired Gardy.
  19. The reason that he hasn't coached was because he wanted to spend time with family after he retired. Now that his kids are older, he wants to get more involved in the game again. He has been a "guest" coach at Spring Training for several years, so it isn't like he has been away completely since he retired.
  20. I agree. With the additions/re-assignments over the last 2 offseasons, only 1 coach was actually let go while 3 have been added. They now have 8 full time coaches on the staff.
  21. During their tenures as Twins, Radke and Blyleven had similar W/L records (Blyleven had 1 more win and Radke 1 more Loss). They also pitched similar innings (Bert had 100 more IP). But Radke's ERA was almost 1 run higher and Bert had about 600 more K's. To be honest, while I enjoyed watch Radke pitch, he was basically a league average pitcher.
  22. I disagree. That is what the Team's HOF is for, to acknowledge players that performed exceptionally well while playing for them. A retired # should be a rare event and other than for special circumstances MLB HOF status should be required to have your number considered for retirement. After all there are only a limited quantity of numbers available (around 100) and 30+ are required to for the team and staff.
  23. I don't think that Radke's number will be retired, nor should it be. Other that Oliva, Hrbek, and TK, all of the Retired Numbers are HOF'ers. Many believe that Oliva should be there as well and if his career wouldn't have been shortened by injury he would've been. TK is the all time winningest Twins' Manager and led the club to 2 WS Titles. The only real questionable retiree it Hrbek. Even though he is 2nd All Time for HR and RBI as a Twin, he really had his number retired for being a hometown boy and playing his entire career in Minnesota.
  24. This isn't much of a prediction since only 1 pitcher met this criteria and he is already under contract for next year. Pelfrey only made 29 starts.
  25. You are correct that we are to help the poor, but it is not the Government's job to help the poor. It is to the people to do it themselves. It is a lot more effective that way as well.
